Omega Watchco Seamaster 300

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

The Omega WatchCo Seamaster 300 series of watches have jumped in popularity and demand in the past few years. In this episode of " What Is On My Wrist" Cam takes us through the in and outs of the WatchCo Seamaster 300. WatchCo was an Australia-based national distributor and authorized service facility for Omega. Due to having access to a large stockpile of genuine NOS (New Old Stock) vintage Omega movements, along with the ability to place orders for modern service replacement parts directly from Omega, WatchCo began assembling complete Seamaster 300 watches sometime around the late 1990s or early 2000s.
As you can imagine, Omega was not thrilled with WatchCo producing complete Seamaster 300 watches, and the company has since changed its policies regarding the supply of parts to prevent third parties from assembling complete timepieces. Additionally, while Omega now keeps a much tighter control on its parts and WatchCo no longer exists as the same company it once did, the previous availability of service components meant that up until just several years ago, it was possible to track down all of the parts necessary to put together your own “WatchCo” Seamaster 300 - and many people did just that.
Today, the “WatchCo” name is frequently used to describe Seamaster 300 watches assembled with genuine Omega service parts, regardless of whether or not the former Australian distributor was actually the one to originally assemble them. Furthermore, due to being assembled from service components, it is not uncommon to come across examples of the Omega Seamaster 300 “WatchCo” in both date and no-date formats and fitted with parts that have slight variations in the shade of luminescent material used on them.

Love it, brother. I so wish more brands did this. Love the whole idea of a "modern / classic / brand new" models (and Omega totally needs to recreate these models)

I love the idea of ‘watch co’ especially when it’s from my country! 🇦🇺 this will have to be my next watch...

IMHO the Watchco Seamaster 300 is a Watchco. But it is not really an Omega. It may be made out of Omega parts, but it was not built in Switzerland and not by Omega. As far as I know the design was not really created by Omega but by M.O.D. and Omega built the Seamaster to those specs. This is probably the reason why the Seamaster 300, the Rolex MilSub and the CWC Royal Navy Diver look so similar. All three watches are based on the same M.O.D. specifications. I think the Watchco looks great, but so did the Omega. And yes, Omega should bring this iconic design back. I am glad I went with the MKII Project 300. I think it's as close as I can get to an original.

I don't completely agree as the movements were built directly by Omega the rest is done by and approved service centre just as would happen if you sent an original in for servicing. This is exactly what Rolex does when they replace vintage dials with new old stock. So to me they are just NOS at a price point that makes it comfortable to use as a daily watch.

  • @7rslender

@@andrewgiblin3468 And I don't completely disagree with you but IMHO it's just different watch than an original Seamaster 300 from the 60s. Nothing wrong with that tough. I think it's something different when Omega builds a watch in the factory in Bienne with their knowledge and quality control and this watch is later serviced by a service centre like Watchco, as when Watchco builts a Seamaster out of parts from scratch. To me, the outcome is not exactly the same. It does not make the watch bad in any way. It just makes it different. But that's just my two cents I hope we can agree on one thing: It's a great looking watch! Ps. and I would not mind having one in the collection ;-)

@@andrewgiblin3468 well that would be great but unfortunately as unlikely as another release of the wonderful Rolex 5517 Milsub. Prices for those wonderful old watches are just insane. This is why I decided for me to go the homage route and try to get the best version possible.

Awesome video, I've noticed this a bunch of times. The real vintage 166.024s have rounded corners on the date window. Fakes on etsy have the squares which are also blackened on the back and not the brass. I've heard the watchco ones have this as well, but have never seen a 100% certain watchco model. Any information on this issue?

Exactly. If you ran over your original Seamaster 300, and it came back with a new case, dial, hands and glass, would it be a franken Watch? Of course not. So neither is the Watchco.
