Michael Jackson will forever be The undisputed King of Pop 🙌🏾 his career expanded over 40 yrs and no artist will ever top Thriller, his impact, influence or his contributions to music. He was also a smart businessman too getting into publishing, I mean he owned The Beatles for crying out loud. 😂. However Max Martin will for sure go down in history as 1 of Pop music greatest producer and songwriters in history.

Max is such a talent and chooses to share that with so many artists. He really doesnt have a specific sound like The Neptunes or Timbaland - he just knows how to make great pop music to fit the artist he's working with. Unbelievable that Kelly Clarkson wanted Since Youve Been Gone and Behind Those Hazel Eyes left off her sophomore album. She owes the success of her career, particular the "Breakaway" from her American Idol start to those songs. Though she's always been someone who has had a bit of a poor attitude towards songwriters and producers - like how she publically went after Ryan Tedder for "Already Gone" sounding like another Tedder production, Beyoncé's "Halo".

@@jonnyharvey He and Cheiron *had* a very, very specific sound. However, in the early 2000's it stopped working as mainstream was progressing towards guitar music more. I would not be surpised if he had learned from that experience, that having a a specific sound can work very well in one moment, but can work against you the next. After all, a typical sound goes into fashion, but also goes out of fashion.

Disagree that he doesn't have a specific sound. Max's compositions are extremely influenced by Baroque composers, especially Bach. You seem to be talking about sound timbre, or put another way, the way the actual instruments/synths/production sounds vs. the songwriting composition. Max doesn't really produce. He can, but Max is a songwriter. The production elements, i.e. the unique "sounds" (regardless of "notes") aren't his focus. Max focuses on melody and harmony. But Max absolutely has an extremely distinct melodic/harmonic sound. It's very, very heavily influenced by Baroque (a period of classical) music. Max almost certainly grew up listening to a lot of Bach and other German composers. The extremely heavy usage of the V chord in minor key through the late 90's and early 2000's was almost exclusively due to Max, and is a really good display of his love for that ultra-dark Baroque sound.

We are talking about Michael Jackson being an incredible singer and dancer and without a doubt a great songwriter. He wrote from the album Thriller three of the most memorable songs in all of pop and rock music: Beat It, Billie Jean and Wanna Be Startin' Somethin'. The Bad album is almost an author record and from there hits like Smooth Criminal, The Way You Make Me Feel, Dirty Diana, Bad and I Just Can't Stop Loving You came out that reached the Hot 100 and 5 reached the top 10. I mean, Michael could write hits for other artists too; he wrote and produced Rebbie Jackson's Centipede and Diana Ross' Muscles.

He is definitely the king of pop, and just kinda modern music in general tbh. That signature sound he had in the late 90's/early 2000's is so distinct that you can make faux-Max Martin tracks as some artists often do specifically to evoke that sound and people instantly recognize it as being early 2000's. Crazy to think he single-handedly created such a huge part of culture.

@@PowerRedBullTypology Sorry, but you seem to be mistaken about what I am calling genius within the music I'm referencing. Max Martin has an extremely Baroque-heavy sound that did not appear before him, and no one else has really showed as much prowess as him since. I'm aware he was part of a music collaboration group - but they did not flirt with the heavy harmonic minor baroque sound that made Max Martin the legend he is. You can't just say "he's from this group, so therefor;" - you can't just ignore the musical uniqueness of his productions vs those of his contemporaries. Did those other Cheiron disciples go on to make compositions that could easily be translated into common practice Baroque pieces? No, they didn't, not even close, not a single one of them. Only Max did. Max Martin is a living musical genius, and any attempt to downplay that is just a display of musical ignorance. Max Martin melded Baroque with contemporary in a way that completely changed pop music, and that change is currently an ongoing influence. Any pop song where the melody is centered around 1 and the first three chords are i - V - bIII will make virtually every single living person in a country with Internet think of Max Martin, even if they don't know his name. It's so distinct that if you want to go for an early 2000's pop sound, the first three chords of your progression are almost guaranteed to be i - V - bIII. Max is absolutely the genius behind this shift and there is no evidence otherwise. If you have evidence of other Cheiron songwriters using harmonic minor Baroque sounds before the late 90's (when Max Martin made this sound the dominant pop sound,) I'd love to see evidence of it, but I've seen people make the exact claim you're making for over 20 years and never seen a single one of those people produce a shred of evidence.

@@jonnyharvey I totally agree that ageism is a huge obstacle for Madge and every major female pop artist over 35 since radio programmers seem to refuse playing anything from them no matter how banging it might be. Understandably, she's trying to return to the Top 40 charts any way she can and maybe ol' Max can do the trick since those joyless Frozen trap remixes on Tik Tok failed to do so last year.

MJ fans are so fragile. Jesus. Max has way more nr 1 hits and stayed on the top way longer (and he is still doing it) And we are talking about writing songs, not who is the better singer or dancer. If you actually go back to most of MJs songs, they are horribly outdated. And saying he layed the foundation for pop that Max just continued. There are people who did it before MJ. Im was a huge MJ fan, but tired of fanboys chocking on his nuts.

i honestly think many of the female pop icons (except P!nk and Taylor) in the 2000s would not have reached any status without him. Katy, Brtiney, Jessie J, or most of others needed Max's song craftsmenship. Many of these artist have different strengths but to survive you needed hits first. period

No Michael Jackson is still the King of Pop because his estate literally owns the trademark plus he is more well known than Max if you wanna give Max Martin a nickname than make up a name for him like Godfather of Pop for example instead of trying to steal MJ's name he is to this day the undisputed King of Pop
