Is Marika Hackman's "Big Sigh" Worth a Listen?

Marika Hackman - "Big Sigh"
"Big Sigh" is Marika's album number 4 - or number 5 if you take into account her "Covers" record. It's a very deep, strong and personal album, with different sonorities and landscapes but with lyrics always coming across as too rudimentary to me. There is of course intention to it and I do appreciate the consistency of the record in this regard; just like instruments play a big part in it (with Marika playing most of them on the record) so do the lyrics, which are undoubtedly raw, honest and direct. This is a brave endeavor from one of the most distinctive British musicians currently out there. Watch the video of one of my favourites below:

Hard disagree, I think this is a lazy take. Lyrics don’t have to be complicated to be unique and thoughtful. In Blood, shes telling us that this relationship shes in is making her feel like a taxidermy insect: on a pedestal, objectified, stripped of freedom, maybe even a little taken advantage of. She says all of this in the most poetic way possible, it’s definitely not lacking in thought.

Ah, they surely don't have to be complicated - the most simple words and poems make great lyrics alright. There may be good moments on this record when it comes to lyrics; overall, though, the way verses are put together seems random and too free-flowing to me. Thoughtful? Maybe, she might have put some thought in them, or she might not. To me, lyrics in this album seem to be a collage of dialogues/interjections and they are mostly descriptive - this is usually stage 1 songwriting. But that's just my opinion, of course - thanks for sharing yours!
