    When my now ex-wife beat me up, and I dialed 911, and they threw ME in prison, I first realized my *male privilege*. When I tried to escape her and found that NONE of the shelters in my area would help, my *male privilege* became more apparent. When I did get out, tried to get a restraining order, and was denied as the person behind the desk said, *_"How DARE you ask to file a restraining order against THE MOTHER OF YOUR CHILD,"_* my obvious *male privilege* was overflowing. In the divorce hearing, where my ex got EVERYTHING, including support based on what the judge "feels I should be making, as a white man," and I got 8 hours of visitation per month, well, to be honest, I was getting sick of experiencing my *male privilege*.

    Thanks. It was rough. Thinking back, I remember how scary it was to be in that situation, to have NO institutional or systematic help of any kind, and to experience institutional blocking and exploitation. Although I survived, I can't help but wonder where I could have gone, who I could have been, or what I could have achieved without these issues. I have to accept it as the past, and look to the future, which is vastly improved. The good news is that my son understands that his mother used him as a pawn, and we've been able to develop a stronger relationship as adults. But these experiences are why I cannot take the cries of _"Patriarchy!"_ seriously. I know the truth, via experience.

    Wow. That's super sexist, though. I BET there are a few men that identify as women in prisons and I bet you they've raped (and been raped) a few times. Though, really, going by their argument, no one should care if another woman sexually abuses a woman/girl, right? That's a very stupid oversight.

    I also believe that women have, at least in my experience, a social advantage. For example, you've never heard the phrase "woman up." Not to mention that men are the ones that have to work up the courage to ask a woman on a date, buy her flowers, pay for a movie/meal, and at the end of the day, still doesn't decide whether or not they'll go out again. A man has to pay sometimes thousands of dollars for a wedding ring, and then the woman gets to decide whether or not they get married. In my opinion, it's a bit unfair.

    Women can make fine soldiers. While it's true that the average woman is weaker than the average man, there are lots of women strong enough for the job. The real problem is men naturally protect women. Whenever mix deployments have been used, the mixed unit suffer much higher losses, almost exclusively the male soldiers. The male soldiers take higher risks to protect the female soldiers and that costs lives. Also the public reacts must worst to the loss of female soldiers, so the brass hates putting them on the front line.

  • @queenofthorns6746

    ***** I already said that I would prefer the draft to be abolished, as it's outdated and hasn't been used since the Vietnam War. Also, that's such a wrong statement to say that any female soldier is a bad soldier. Yes, most women aren't as strong as most men, but strength is NOT the only baseline to make a good soldier. You are being very disrespectful to women in the military.

  • @queenofthorns6746

    @queenofthorns6746

    mabrown666 Don't you think that's a problem that men need to solve on their own? I have no idea why male soldiers would seem to abandon self preservation to take greater risks. Personally, I think it's horrible that the public reacts worse to female soldier deaths than male soldiers. The lives of men and women are equally important.

    ***** What if women who want to be in ground combat can measure up to the same standards that the men have to? What if she can accomplish the tasks they can? Obviously this will weed out a lot of women but I believe that if a woman who can do the same tasks wants to be in combat, she should be able to. It's very unfair to prevent an able bodied person from combat because some male soldiers might get distracted. Maybe the best way to combat this is to get male soldiers used to the presence of female soldiers.

    The rate in the US of inmate on inmate rape in women's prisons is more than triple the rate in men's prisons, so the idea that women aren't violent or rapists is ridiculous. Men are also the victim in 53% of domestic abuse cases yet there is nearly zero government spending on men's abuse shelters or other support services. Women are also the majority of perpetrators of child abuse. Yet, as pointed out in the video, men are far more often arrested, charged and convicted and serve longer sentences than women across the board.

    Awesome video. As a white male, who had to work for everything I've had and very often had the stack against me, the only so-called "privilege" I've ever had is that, because I'm white and male, I never got to play the victim card. And that is a privilege. Blaming others is cathartic and by giving people an avenue to not accept personal responsibility for one's success or failures, it ultimately becomes a sort of self fulfilling prophecy. I'm not allowed to use any victim card, and that becomes a blessing.

    My understanding is that there are definitely privileges that males get and women don't, but they're usually decided by biology and aren't compensated for by government/corporations. Things like women not having free access to products for hygiene, while men don't even need special products for hygiene. Also, there are DEFINITELY privileges in the work place that women can get and men usually don't get. At my job, there's a very clear favorites hierarchy, in which girls my age get time off more easily and get more say in our work schedules. I didn't even know that it was going on until my male coworker brought it up, and it's actually undeniable once it's brought to my attention. Men have more expected of them from society, so them being seen as bread winners isn't just bad for women (because they're expected to be stay-at-home moms, or accept minimal paid maternity leave) but it's a struggle for men, because they aren't given any leeway to make mistakes and admit when they're incapable of doing something without help.

    The problem is that whenever you insert a category of human, you always end up creating inequality in some form because if you have an in-group and an out-group, you will have to necessarily create a situation where ones well being is predicated on the discrimination of the other. The moment you switch your ideas from groups to everyone from the start is the moment you solve this dilemma and truly work to help everyone. For example: End violence. Period.

    Good video but: 00:59 "Women were denied certain legal rights such as owning property" is not wholly accurate. An unmarried woman could own property and could make contracts in her own name, and if she owned property she could vote too just like men who owned property could - because that was how you got the vote (not because of your gender as feminists like to spin it). So we are just talking about married women here. Now as regards marriage: remember in old days there was no welfare or grocery stores every few kilometers or government assistance, etc. etc.. So if you are a single woman and a man offers to enter into an agreement with you that said "I am now bound to you (and the children) for life... we are now inseparable.....we are one..... and it's my job to look after all your welfare and food and assistance for anything you need.... but you have to transfer to me the legal authority to do this on behalf of you me and the whole family". THAT was an agreement that women found attractive and they willingly entered into it for the benefits that it got them. So to just point to a very narrow aspect of this (i.e. legal right to own property) is very misleading. Same with the vote. Women gave up the right to vote but had the fact that when the man voted he represented the whole family and took the concerns and interests of every member of his family into his decision.. This important truth is so often ignored by feminist rhetoric that would have you beleive that he was thrilled to selfishly vote only for things that oppressed the members of his family. Even though he we responsible and answerable for all their needs and the entire social norm was to be a good husband, to love and care for your family as more important than yourself... otherwise risk severe social shaming and sanction. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Coverture

  • @laurenchen

    @laurenchen

    7 жыл бұрын

    Coverture was not a global phenomenon, nor did it exist throughout all of history, or even really before the 1700s. For much of history and in many cultures, women could not own property. Also, basic human rights and responsibilities are not trade-offs where it's acceptable to substitute one for the other. With that same logic, slaves were not oppressed because they didn't have to worry about providing their own food, housing, and clothing since their masters took care of them.

  • @mabrown666

    @mabrown666

    +Queen of Thorns yes in history women were not equal, but it's now now. Also the fact women were the property of their fathers or husbands is not as clear cut as it would first appear. Because the father or husband was also legally responsible for everything the woman did. If the woman stole something, the man was guilty of theft, if she killed someone then he was guilty of murder and if she had sex with another man, the husband was guilty of adultery. There were also things like the hue and cry law. A law that states that if a woman raised an hue and cry, every man within the sound of her voice was required by law to give assistance, regardless of the cause. If later it was found that the woman used the law without just cause, the father or husband would be punished. True, I would have hated to live under those rules, but it was a little more complex than just having no rights.

    woman getting custody of child is actually due to woman's right activist during the 1800's. The father orginally one custody of both children in a divorce as was usually the norm back then but one of them died in riding accident I believe. the mother used this to argue that woman are better Carr givers and more natural parents than men and one custody of the remaining child which set a legal precedent which are very hard to undo. this is mothers being better care givers is patriarchy is absurd and not backed up by history. I am timid to use the word femism as the term wouldn't be coined for some time but it is woman right activism that set this social standard.

I tried to us the argument that you don't see women for equal representation on all fields, like manual labor, but only are fighting for equality in the "attractive" jobs. He told me my argument didn't apply here because most women apparently just aren't strong enough to work those physically demanding jobs, while STEM work mostly comes down to intellect. I never heard of a man whining about there is no equal representation in babysitters, teachers, nurses or whatever. Men and women have different choices in their careers. When people will learn that and stop this bullshit about equal representation on all fields. Let people be whatever they want. Everyone has a privilege in some form. Being born in a rich/well-off family, not being born with a disability, being taller, being shorter, there are even instances where it's more beneficial to be black than white and vice-versa. Basically, being one thing doesn't mean you're automatically privileged or oppressed. It also depends where you live, your circumstances, and how you apply yourself. Simply being a man tells me nothing about your life. More people need to realize this.

When it comes to actual dispute, men are given child custody more often than women. Anyway, there are countless "debunking feminism" on KZread and this doesn't bring anything new to my eyes. At this point we (Roaming Millenial's watchers) know the wage gap is a result of men being more competitive in their professional life, I'd like to see more discussions about WHY this is. When you look deeper you realize that Men's Right Activists and Feminists do agree on some point, and they both want to break the stigma about men going into "feminine career".

    Excellent video as always, but this was a little brief. Was the brevity a result of the animation style/collab you did for this video? I would have liked to see a little more in depth discussion about some aspects like the different job choices men and women make. Especially since when you bring this point up to a feminist they just claim the patriarchy is keeping women out of higher paying jobs.

    +Connor Miles Yes, animation takes a lot of work and time, so for the collab we had to keep the video short. Male privilege is definitely something I will revisit in future videos though!

    Thank you for making these videos. I appreciate your commitment to open discourse and I always learn a lot from your videos. I do call myself a feminist but I appreciate hearing another take on issues like these. It does no one any good if we are all in an echo chamber. That being said, I think we do agree on so much more than we agree on. You help me to remember that those who disagree with me are just as thoughtful and kindhearted as those who do agree with me. Thanks again.

    This needs to go viral; this is the sort of message that girls should be getting to encourage them to achieve their goals.
