Is Jeremy Hunt about to lose his Tory safe seat? | Godalming Report

The Chancellor Jeremy Hunt has admitted his Surrey seat could be won or lost by 1,500 votes as he faces a battle to political survival.
The Godalming and Ash parliamentary seat is a key target for the Liberal Democrat who are hoping to demolish large swathes of the Tory southern stronghold.
At the last election, Jeremy Hunt secured a comfortable 50% of the vote. But this time - could it be different?
The full list of candidates in Godalming and Ash is:
Graham Richard Drage - Reform UK
Paul Follows - Liberal Democrats
Jeremy Hunt - Conservative and Unionist Party
Ruby Tucker - Green Party
James Walsh - Labour Party
Harriet Williams - Women's Equality Party

To be fair that's part of why he's in such a bad place. He is too straightforward and honest for politics. He massively lacks a personal touch though and can't bluff his way out of things like most of the others can.

@@quintuscrinis8032 Huh? Sunak? Honest and pragmatic? He literally can't even be honest about his role in the 2008 crisis! How many "Five point plans" has he launched and demanded that the country judge him on? And how many of those PROMISES has he delivered on? What about the overt dishonesty of claiming that an independent assessment of Labour's policies meant that every household would pay £2000 per year more, when he had already been TOLD by his OWN TEAM that this was not true? Yet he continues to make this claim, even DAYS after it was disproven? Those are not the actions of an honest man! I really think you need to take a close look at the words you write, because even a cursory inspection would demonstrate how far away from honest both you, and Sunak, are.

Too often those on the left think "if I can't get all my own way, then I won't vote for them, even if the result of that is something even worse happens." We on the left need to stop stupid infighting and recognise that, right now, the primary goal must be to drive the Tories out. If Labour are best placed, vote Labour. If Lib Dem are, vote Lib Dem. My apologies to everyone, I will never make that mistake again, I have swung to the left since but I cannot bring myself to vote for Sir Keir. The Libdems will always find themselves in a kind of political wilderness, by the very nature of the party and history. It's unfortunate, because as this item shows, and if one listens to general interviews of Ed Davey, they are very often people with the empathy needed, and clear views on things such as water pollution. It shows how ruined our system is, with two main parties who will both generally enact/vote with whichever ideology they have at the time. Rather than the empathy and pragmatism that's needed.

We'll see exactly where they sit in the political spectrum. This time around, Starmer is Blair without the excitement, or as much optimism. Hopefully the LibDems will gain enough seats to be relevant, but not so many that we have a coalition. That wouldn't do anyone any favours this time. He blocked a walkable mixed use housing development in Godalming (which has a fast train to London) in favour of keeping a perpetually empty parking lot. Boomers were in support of keeping the parking lot as they liked there was always space there. Jeremy has also pursued policies which has restricted the type of housing built to almost exclusively mansions (Min £500k for a 2 bed semi-detached), and many local services have been outsourced. The Tory economics has also been a disaster; for example, the parking attendants have been outsourced to some company in the City of London which pays their executive team £Million's - the quality of parking enforcement services has gone down, and what were good paying local jobs (money that goes back to the local community) has been replaced by low wage jobs held by Indian and Pakistani immigrants whilst the profits get moved out of Surrey.
