I agree but I think Kishimoto had Itachi semi planned out, one of the data books front pt. 1 says something like “what are this mysterious characters true motivations?” And it’s clear Itachi was always meant to be more than just “guy who turns evil and kills clan.”

Itachi at least has the excuse of being a child but for me the most confusing part about the Uchiha massacre is that Hiruzen was so incapable of navigating the interests of the clan and village that he allowed the situation with the Uchiha to get so bad they felt a coup was necessary. The Uchiha never would've tried that if the village hadn't turned on them first and made them feel like it was necessary for their own survival. The whole point of the clans joining the village was to pool together their collective interests as a group, which the Uchiha were actively spurned from by no fault of their own. They were upholding their obligations to the village up until the village failed its obligations to them. As terrible as Danzo and his methods are, he wasn't entirely wrong about the problems with Hiruzen. That Hiruzen allowed Danzo to do as much as he did and couldn't commit to dealing with him for the good of the village is a pretty good example of this but also what he allowed with Naruto's upbringing and letting Orochimaru escape.

Why is it hiruzens job to stop Danzo? He has several responsibilities and was going on missions to protect the village well into his old age. It’s not hiruzens fault Danzo was a POS. Why didn’t minato stop him when he was hokage? Why didn’t tobirama or hashirama mentor him better? Why didn’t the village elders stop him? Why didn’t the uchiha assassinate him?

@@DrooledOn Hiruzen very much let Danzou have the power and influence that he did and it was his responsibility to reign him in if he overstepped on the power Hiruzen allowed him to have, which Hiruzen failed to do. It's similar to how he failed to properly deal with Orochimaru when first confronting him and that led to Orochimaru escaping and causing a lot of harm, which is a failing Hiruzen owned up to. I'm pretty sure he owns up to his failings with Danzou too when confronted about his role in the Uchiha massacre. It's also not just directly stopping Danzou but also his failings managing situations he effectively let Danzou run rampant with, most glaringly the Uchiha. The Uchiha only attempted a coup because they were left to stew in resentment for years as they were blamed for something they didn't do and isolated from the rest of the village, something that Hiruzen can and should have been able to do something about before it got to the coup attempt in the first place. He also just let Danzou massacre the entire clan including innocent children as a solution to the coup instead of making any attempt at a less extreme solution even though the whole thing at its heart was caused by the village/Hokage failing their obligations towards the Uchiha clan as citizens of Konoha. Danzou is accountable for his own actions but so is Hiruzen, which includes things he can and should have acted on due to his obligations as Hokage but didn't. This isn't to say he's done nothing good in his tenure but that he very much dropped the ball hard on a number of things and his role in those events shouldn't be ignored.

@@taiga738 So here’s the first issue that I have with your reasoning. Hiruzen could not have had the predicted Danzos future behaviors. While he allowed him to have “free reign over the villages seedier side of day to day operations.” That does not make him responsible for Danzo plotting and doing secretive actions. Minato literally debunks that hiruzen has any fault in the next panel. Danzo had power under Hiruzen, Minato, and Tsunade. For example, Danzo manipulating the situation between Nagato and Hanzo was never something that Hiruzen was aware of, but it was possible due to Danzos influence over the Anbu. In this situation Danzo was literally plotting to become hokage. Why would Hiruzen authorize Danzo’s plan to end himself? When Hiruzen was attempting to end the war, Danzo basically forced him to step down as hokage. When choosing the fourth hokage, Hiruzen did not allow orochimaru to take that position. As you should know danzo was trying to plant him there. Danzo continued to manipulate young men into being loyal to him such as kakashi, and use them to spy on hiruzen. He used his influence to move the Uchiha into the outskirts of the village, he used his influence to spy on them. He literally attempted to assassinate hiruzen. He only found out because kakashi betrayed danzo, and he immediately confronted him. When he found out about orochimaru (who was working for danzo), he immediately kicked him out. If he knew danzo was still plotting and working with orochimaru things would’ve been different. When Hiruzen found out about kinoe and kakashi he stopped danzo from killing them. You’re literally LYING when you say hiruzen allowed the genocide of the uchiha. He wanted to work with shisui and use his plan to stop the coup. Danzo disagreed and said he would protect the village in his own way. He then STOLE shisuis eye and ruined the plan. He then secretly met with itachi and had him murder his clan, because he would be able to protect his little brother. He literally went off on danzo when he tried to say itachi did it on his own free will. Then Hiruzen immediately removed him from the council and ordered root to be disbanded. Danzo then continued to have root and basically lost no political power. Hiruzen is only responsible for allowing him to be in the council, he could have never predicted his actions, and Danzo was hiding everything from hiruzen. When hiruzen found out he IMMEDIATELY stopped any foolishness.

​@@DrooledOn I'm not saying he should have noticed instantly way back early into his term but he had plenty of time throughout his term to notice Danzou becoming the way he is by the start of the series and failed to properly deal with the situation once he did. Danzou had Root because Hiruzen let him. Hiruzen was the one with the authority to move the Uchiha, authorize the massacre and just generally decide how to deal with them, which makes him responsible for the mishandling of the situation in which the Uchiha were othered, their understandable resentment over the situation was unaddressed and then they were killed for a coup that could've been prevented before it was even an idea. This is not a lie and Danzou's manipulations don't magically mean Hiruzen doesn't share in the blame. If Danzou tried anything with the Uchiha without Hiruzen's permission, he could've dealt with Danzou on grounds of acting against the hokage. Danzou stealing Shisui's eye was also something that could have warranted action. The whole thing was a huge mess. It shouldn't even have gotten to the point where brainwashing the whole clan was the best they could think of in the first place. Danzou is responsible for his own actions but so is Hiruzen in enabling him to do the things he did. The same goes for his inability to stop Orochimaru and the consequences of that, which is something he acknowledges as one of his failings. Danzou is somewhat right for the wrong reasons about Hiruzen's flaws as a leader. He let his feelings about Danzou and Orochimaru cloud his judgement in dealing with them which allowed them to cause harm past the point they should've been stopped. Stepping down to make room for a new Hokage that could better address the things he struggled with was a reasonable demand despite the ulterior motives and Hiruzen himself was at least somewhat aware of this. In terms of Danzou's power and influence, Minato had about a year as Hokage before unexpectedly dying so there wasn't really time for him to do much with the position. Hiruzen only really demanded Danzou disband Root after the massacre and the Kakashi ANBU stuff basically proves my point that Hiruzen should have had enough to declare Danzou a traitor and killed/arrested rather than just assume someone like that actually complied with decommissioning Root and ceasing other similar activities. It's likely an issue with not thinking things through when adding that plotline into the story but taken as is, there just isn't any way to justify Hiruzen not taking more decisive action against Danzou on this. It's unlikely a lot of that info was passed over to Tsunade who has her own flaws but Danzou also seems to have made an effort to be more discreet about his activities once Hiruzen died knowing his actions wouldn't be as tolerated by her if he got her attention. He waited until she was in a coma so he didn't have to deal with her directly.

@@taiga738 While you do make good points, this is still a unfair criticism of Hiruzen in comparison to the other Hokage. The situations that Hiruzen was aware of Danzo’s treason, as I stated he completely shut down the entire plot. I agree he could’ve been a lot less forgiving, and this would have prevented future actions. The most egregious offense being the assassination plot. This criticism also also applies to Hashirama, who was a mentor to Hiruzen. Hashirama let Madara live for the sake of peace, this indirectly caused several events that would occur during the reign of Hiruzen, Minato, and Tsunade. This includes the 4th great ninja war, which is the culmination of Madara’s Eye of the moon plan. Obviously he could not have foreseen Madara’s future villainous way, so is he responsible for it? Danzo was also enabled by Tobirama, who planted the seeds of the marginalization of the Uchiha clan, with the creation of the police force, and the restrictions of Uchiha from village leadership. Tobirama also created the Anbu which Danzo would abuse in the future. Is Tobirama at fault for Madara’s revival due to the reanimation ability that he created? He literally thanks Tobirama in the manga. There is also the aspect in which they were all being allegedly controlled by Kaguya and Black Zetsu. So I just don’t see how you can confidently blame Hiruzen for Danzo’s actions when he was working against him the entire time. If the assassination plot was a success would this have all been Hiruzens fault as well? It’s speculated that this was the reason for Orocimaru invading the Leaf village. Why would Danzo want to kill Hiruzen so much if he is so lenient that Danzo can do whatever he wants? He literally has actively been trying to kill him since the 3rd shinobi war. But sure everything is Hiruzen’s fault and he’s the worst hokage 😂🤦🏾‍♂️.

I thought I was the only one, murdering his entire clan and making sasuke hate him was so dumb and unnecessary, many easier ways he could've handled it

It baffles me how people can say itachi was a loving and caring brother. He was a lunatic who had a sick twisted love for Sasuke. Killed his entire family because he was scared of a war that wasn't happening. He could have done any other option, run away with Sasuke, if he HAD to take someone out take out the Shinobi...but why his grandma, or his mom, or the children, or his girlfriend etc. After he killed his entire family he then made Sasuke watch it for a whole day...why? Because he wanted him to hate him so he can go kill his own brother one day, effectively ruining Sasukes life. But it doesn't stop there. He then tells Sasuke to kill his freinds and foster hatred not wanting Sasuke to have a peaceful life with what he had left because itachi had a whole life plan for Sasuke. Then itachi kicks the bucket and suddenly he's a honey sticky sweet angel who is misunderstood and he flies on rainbows and Skittles.... I like itachi but he is a psychopath of a character.

@@skkadoot9533 that doesn't make it any better. Obito was a partner in the massacre, they tag teamed the Uchiha and killed everyone. There were other ways to solve the issue then partner up with a mass murderer and kill off the ENTIRE FAMILY due to the family trying to rebel against oppression. I know itachi is everyone's favorite (mine included) but think of the logic here. The Uchihas were given the police force as a form of surveillance. After the nine tails attack they were stripped from their homes and thrown to the outskirts. No one wanted anything to do with them. Logically you'd be angry..you'd want to know what's happening what's going on... Now itachi had the information to quell the rage however he decided to be more loyal to the oppressive village than his oppressed family and kept quiet. After he heard about a rebellion he IMMEDIATELY snitched to the hokage and DANZO and killed his whole family simply because they would rebel and inconvenience the leaf........ or you can say because of the hypothetical war that could happen as a result of the rebellion. I see the vision for itachi that kishimoto wanted to pull but it was OVER thought out and left too many plot holes and unexplained reasoning and it's overall kinda goofy.

Obito killed the combatants right.........so why did itachi and Obito go on to kill all the non combatants? Like his own mother. Think about it again. Just the fact that they put a clan massacre into the hands of teenager is just mind boggling. Regardless of where you stand on Fugaku's coup idea, having Hiruzen and Danzo implement a plan that put a kid into a martyr role is just nuts.

@@maximilianraley2457 well he left a bunch of children in the middle of a warzone, 2 of which were fairly unqualified to be there, and marched them into enemy territory to bomb an important strongpoint for the enemy, and acted surprised when they came back with one member dead, another scarred and the mission failed. Oh, and he did it again, where one got kidnapped and impaled by their teammate as a pawn to possibly destroy the entire village. Oh and he also thought he could take on madara uchiha. He saw obito, figured he was madara and didn't stop to reconsider. Granted there wasn't much else he could do but he got lucky obito was basically an emotional wreck at that point, because obito had minato off guard twice, and that he wasn't ACTUALLY madara He also failed to recognise that Kakashi was completely traumatized, yknow, the kid who woke up in the middle of the night crying trying to wash the imaginary blood from his hands in the sink, and recruited him into the black ops. But noooo because he teleported behind obito he's a genius on the level of the best in the verse

@@ASmartNameForMe Minato didn't set them the mission, he wasn't hokage at that point, Hiruzen was to blame for that. Plus it's not like they were genin, it was a three man team of 2 chunin and a jonin, that was probably seen as more than enough, especially in war time when forces were spread thin. Minato was needed on the front lines, as we saw he won the war for the leaf by killing all the enemy ninja he could and forcing the other villages to negotiate a peace treaty. On the second point who else in the story could be an unknown Uchiha who could control the nine tails using a sharingan. Madara Uchiha of course, not really out of pocket to think it was him. Plus name what other ninja at that point could figure out kamui as fast as Minato and beat Obito that quickly(Don't get it twisted Minato washed Obito)when his village was being attacked by a tailed beast, his wife is probably dying and his newborn son is in danger, and still release the 9 tails from Obito's control and seal it again. I could tell you now any other kage alive at that point was getting their cheeks clapped by Obito and their village destroyed by the 9 tails. I mean I can only think of Hashirama that could really do any better than him in that situation, and that's because he's literally the strongest non SO6P amped character in the show. On the Kakashi situation, we were shown he was Hokage at that point and was already really busy, that may not be an excuse but he thought that anbu would give Kakashi an outlet to focus on something else by having him guard Kushina while she was pregnant.

shisui could use it as much as he wanted but was restricted by the going blind via overuse thing. danzo could use it once per day because of hashirama cells he used to strengthen his bond with the sharingans he had orochimaru implant in him. itachis crow could only use it once every decade because it takes a lot of time to build up the chakra needed for it. thats basically how things were supposed to be which makes shisui the strongest in all of naruto but plot needed to happen so he had to die.

And je was now planning on using it again, still less than ten years since he activated it. So knowledge of a ten year cool down for Shisui will be a plot hole. It won't make sense

Itachi himself always acknowledged that he was never perfect. Everyone around him considered him perfect. Think of someone you look up to that could do no wrong in your eyes and one day you begin to see their failures come to light. That is what Itachi is, a ninja with once in a generational talent who was put under extreme pressure all BEFORE becoming 13. Even Shisui could only come up with his Koto Amatsukami as a plan to save the village. If anyone is stupid then we should say the 3rd HOKAGE who left it up to very talented kids to stop a civil war.

It was Danzo one of the village leaders who ordered Itachi to wipe out the clan. Keep in mind Shisui was around 15 at the time of his death and Itachi not too long went on 13. Sure Itachi is a genius shinobi with great skill but experience is another factor all together. Once Itachi saw more of the world he saw his flaws and helped save billions by breaking the edo tensei. He tried to make up for his past mistakes however the 3rd and 2nd Hokage were oblivious to the situation with the Uchiha at hand. Not once did he as Hokage meet face to face with Fugaku to negotiate the terms instead he placed them in an isolated part of the village where they could easily be watched and put under control like some pet or 2nd class citizens. Of course they would eventually fight for freedom, however Itachi as young as he was chose to sacrifice the few to save the many. Ultimately the 3rd and Danzo sacrificed many capable shinobi under their guidance as Hokage and Shadow Hokage.

I think what honestly happened was kishimoto was like “yeah Sasuke wants to kill his brother MOTIVATION TIME” then when he actually got to Itachi he was like “oh shit i gotta actually write a backstory”

Wasn’t Obito living with his grandmother (which is explained as to why he’s so good with older people) cause his parents died, and didn’t his grandmother die shortly before or after he became a ninja? He had no immediate family which is why he didn’t really seem bothered to slaughter the Uchiha

"He was a genin at six years old" It always hurt my suspension of disbelief when I hear the ages at wich kids do stuff in Naruto. Genin are supposed to be trained to fight, able to do acrobatic stuff, gather intel, etc. Itachi was a genin at six years old. And most of the other kids are genin at 12. I've been a summer day camp animator for many years, having groups of 7-8 y.o. children thrice and 11-12 y.o. kids twice. Even genin at 12 is a little over the top for me. Not entirely unrealistic, but still over the top. But Genin at 6? The 5-6 y.o. kids in those summer day camps weren't even able to put sunscreen by themselves without quite often putting some in their eyes and crying about it afterwise. Their attention span for a game is rarely over 15 minutes, and the games must be the simplest possible. And I'm now a high school teacher. I thaught 13 y.o. teens and I don't think complex intel gathering would be in their reach.

@@chewhatif4745 Chakra is a form of magic that, in the Naruto universe, is created by mixing spiritual and physical energy. It requires a specific training and as any form of training does, requires the brain to be in the appropriate stage of development. Does Chakra make them faster, stronger and more agile? Yes. It's why I don't get my suspension of disbelief broken when Naruto, a 12 y.o. genin, can fend off adult mercernaries who aren't ninjas sent by Gato in the first mission arc. But does it make him smarter? We have seen on many occasion that it doesn't :P Because of that I have a hard time figuring how a 6 y.o. could do the hand seals and have the concentration necessary to mix their chakra in the first place :P Or do any form of complex info gathering that we know Genins wanting to achieve the rank of Chuunin should be able to do (as we see in the First part of the Chuunin exam).

Also in war time most genin are 8-9 obito and ren and his generation. That like ask why they marry so young and have kids around 18. Naruto a 12 is way beyond peak human physical ability. I feel many of these issues stem from retcons and fixed points in the story I doubt STRONGLY that Danzo as the character even existed during Tsunade search arc or that Itachi's story was fully planned in Kishimoto's mind so we have such inconsistencies

Originally itachi was just a psycho but the retcon made him seem like a murderous idiot, it made no sense for why he stuck to danzo and murdered the clan when he had other options.

I like Itachi and I totally agree with the video but it seems that everyone forgets that fujimoto originally intended for Itachi to be pure evil until he became popular and then turned him good with the tragic backstory, hence the stupid decisions and inconsistencies with his character

FINALLY A NARUTO FAN WITH COMMON SENSE

I find it genuinely hilarious that you listed all of this - which makes total sense - and yet didn't even cover the stuff that first came to mind for me. I put these thoughts out on the internet years ago with the hopes that somebody could explain it, but I never got an answer, so maybe someone reading this can help. If Itachi's goal is to have Sasuke grow up to kill him and become the hero of Konoha, he sets Sasuke up for failure on two separate occasions. The first one is when he tells Sasuke at just 7 years old that in order to beat him, Sasuke will have to kill his closest friend in order to gain the Mangekyo. Several issues with this, but the first is that it completely contradicts the idea of desiring for Sasuke to be seen as a hero. Even in a village of ninjas - even within a clan with a history of murdering each other - at the time Itachi tells Sasuke to do this, such an act would be more than simply frowned upon. HIruzen is (supposedly) a pacifist, Kakashi had learned to cherish his teammates by this point, the Hidden Mist appeared evil for having their ninjas fight and kill one another - you can give me the whole "yeah but Itachi was only 13" argument, but even he claimed to be a pacifist, so this shouldn't have been something he couldn't comprehend. Even worse, in the end, Sasuke doesn't even have the Mangekyo yet when facing Itachi, so clearly it wasn't something he even needed. Itachi wanted him to win and could easily manipulate that outcome into seeming realistic regardless of if he had it or not - within reason, of course, as we all know what happened when Sasuke tried to attack Itachi at 13. Which brings me to my second point. People love to bring up Itachi torturing Sasuke mentally for 24 hours as a sign that Itachi really was initially meant to just be evil. I agree, but my reasoning for it probably differs from others. At this point, Itachi has had the Mangekyo for about 6 years, and he has clearly used it a fair amount as Kisame even points out that Itachi probably shouldn't be using it so excessively, implying he knows how much chakra it drains. So one would think that Itachi has a good grasp on what Tsukuyomi does to the person he uses it on by now. So if Itachi's goal is to have Sasuke train even harder so that he gains strength more quickly so he can kill him before succumbing to his illness, why would he put him in a coma? And it's not just any coma - he remains like this for at the very least 5 weeks because the only person who can cure him is Tsunade. What if they hadn't found her? Do the subjects normally wake up after some time, or would he stay in a coma forever? If this had happened to only Sasuke, you could make the argument that maybe his was an outstanding case and most people woke up within a reasonable amount of time, but Kakashi was in the same boat. We know that Itachi can choose how long the subject feels like he is under the effects, and we also know from his very first time using it on Sasuke when he was only 7 years old that it doesn't have to put the person in a coma. So why if he is so desperate for Sasuke to get stronger does he put him out of commission for an extended period of time knowing that it would take a very special doctor - who was not currently even in the village, mind you - to wake him up? Can't blame this one on him being 13 as he would have been at least 19 by this point. There are other things early on that stand out as clear evidence that Itachi wasn't initially meant to be a twist good guy, and Kishimoto does make attempts to explain most of them, but these two just feel completely unexplainable to me as they directly go against everything Itachi is supposedly trying to do.

He did nothing to protect Sasuke, he make him so obsessed with hate that led him to a dark path and eventually turn into a treat to the village

Anything Itachi did that was stupid can be chalked up as bad writing. Bad decisions or misjudgments seem not too bad when everyone around him is seemingly making even worse decisions.

He kinda just... Didn't fight back. Fugaku and Mikoto (his wife) were Itachi's last kills in the massacre (I believe). At that point, even if Fugaku fought back, there would've been nothing left of his clan to save.

I thought of this the other day swear to god. But considering Itachi’s age, he was quite smart but his knowledge could have been limited. the people around him growing up were these monstrous strong shinobi who had a lot of credibility in the village. If you were 13 and your father told you do this or we will have war, you would believe them. Itachi was definitely a talented genius, but didn’t have the life experience to deal with such a situation at his young age. Oddly enough I do think itachi was onto something with Saskue. Yardy know role’s reversed he woulda took itachi and gtfo. Lmao

I've never like Itachi tbh, thought he was dumb after the truth was revealed. He did a lot of snitching but not the right snitching thinking he could take care of it himself. Not once did he defend his clan or father. Everyone else had a plan and he tried to split his role 3 ways instead of saying you're all wrong. He didn't snitch on Madara/Obito, he didn't snitch on Danzo he let everyone have their way. Then he had the nerve to say his motivation for power was to be able to influence peace, just look at what you did with the power you had.

This is why I'm pretty sure itachi was rewritten to be what he is now but was originally meant to be just a villain

I think you pointing out itachi's stupid decisions really reflects how off the cuff kishimoto had to be when writing this series

15:15 no he did not, Obito was an orphan and didn't know his parents 19:07 in episode 298 Killer Bee literally asked Itachi why didn't he use it on Sasuke directly, and Itachi said "I couldn't, because Shisui's eye takes decades to reactivate", and "there were many things Sasuke wanted to use my death for" that plan with the crow wasn't stupid but you kinda missed Itachi's point there he also mentioned how this plan is not genuine and that he eventually wanted Sasuke to go to the right path in more genuine ways (as he did) but that was the resolve he came up with back then. I see your points but on the other hand a lot of the things you've mentioned are from the novels, I know the novels considered canon but they're NOT written by Kishimoto, only illustrated by him. I guess when you write such a complicated plot with so many characters and history that didn't happen you bound to forget some of the story yourself lol

I always agreed with what he said to Sasuke in their last meeting…he said he should have just told him the truth from the rip instead of treating him like a kid (even though they both were indeed kids) 🤣 Like, if you wanna choose to kill everyone and all that..just tell him why and let him feel whatever he wants to feel about it. Sasuke would have turned out to be a completely different person. Honestly, probably a good person. I think he would have resented the clan more than the village. Same as Itachi did. 🤷🏼‍♀️🤷🏼‍♀️🤷🏼‍♀️

I think instead of having all that pent up rage for Itachi he had the whole series, it would have been directed at Danzo. Because if Itachi clued him in from the beginning, after reading the light novels, this went on for years. It wasn’t just like BOOM Itachi flipped sides. On top of the fact that Sasuke held some resentment towards his father to begin with. Sasuke would have turned out a better person. But your opinion is your opinion!

The village killed your people, because the Uchiha wanted equal rights, and their minority group was being persecuted, for kicking out their leader Madara, who was against the village, then genocided on civilians and children for their eyes. The leaf are NOT the good guys. The were either evil like Danzo or complacent like the 3rd hokage.

It is really the third hokage fault for letting danzo live after all the crap he tried to pull on him

If they would have just made fugaku hokage after minato died 🤷🏻‍♂️probably would have fixed a lot of things. Still gave him the chance of being hokage and calming down the uchiha

Eh, it's a good idea knowing what we know. However, if your village was attacked by a tailed beast who can be controlled by members of a certain clan and you elect the leader of that clan to the position of Hokage a lot of heads will turn. But I agree, Fugaku being made Hokage helps out with a lot.

The age debate is mute with me, old enough to lead an adult killing unit of best adults the anbu, but not village? If people have a problem he could just do transformation jutsu to look older, with above adult intelligence. To treat Itachi as a regular 13 year old is a disingenuous argument in context of the situation. Itachi could shadow the 3rd as co-kage until hiruzen retires in a couple years. He's a prodigy at 13, he is as smart or smarter/powerful than Kakashi, a prime candidate for Hokage. Gaara was 15/16 when he became kage. Age really doesn't matter its skill/ power. Yagura was young too age not a factor in Naruto. This is not our world, in Naruto normal 12 year olds can become ninjas/killers. Itachi has the strength/skill at 13 to be one of top ninja in the anbu black ops.

Yeah Gaara was just the strongest Shinobi of the village by far, and was already the son of previous kazekage. They tried to assassinate him multiple times but Suna is Weak and Nobody could touch him, that's the only reason he didn't die

I think the emphasis of him making mistakes being so young adds soooo much more to his character There’s so much potential and story to be brought out of these characters, really sad we didn’t get to see it

Itachi may have been smart, but he was still just a kid. A kid that had seen some serious sh*t and was being pulled in multiple directions and had all this pressure because of his innate gifts. You can’t expect him to have the right answer.

This is just a case of retconning causing a plot hole. Im sure originally the clan massacre was simply apart of sasuke’s backstory then when kishi decided to make itachi a good guy it stopped making sense why he would do that

I 100% agree it Itachi horrible decisions and so did the third hokage. Slaughtering the whole clan including children doesn't make any sense considering they were konoha most powerful clan. Konoha had no proof and no reason to mistrust the Uchiha considering they just recently fought a war alongside them. Honestly Itachi and Obito killing Uchiha clan by themselves with no injuries is ridiculous. Danzo's two root ninja did decently well against Obito. An entire clan with sharingan should have been able to take the both of them out unless the strongest ones were asleep and the weaker ones were awake. Even then it still doesn't make any sense also why kill the children who didn't know anything and could have been raised to be powerful. It just doesn't make any sense considering it weakened konoha. Look at how strong konoha is now they would have been much stronger with the Uchiha around. Honestly I just think it's bad writing.

Obito was toying with Danzos guards hes Hanzo level I would say as he was doing pretty well against Minato even saying that he was underestemating Minato so possibly not using his full power there. Obito and Itachi ambushing the clan and killing them all should be simple. Don't forget that they did this at night when everyone was sleeping. Also yeah it is bad writting Kishimoto wanted Itachi to be a horrible villain but changed him because everyone liked him. The whole slaughtering even the children was suppose to show how evil he was but since they made him good it just doesn't make sense anymore.

There were shit decisions all around, but it actually makes more sense to wipe out the whole clan instead of just the older generations that made up the current leadership. The Uchiha in general have a tendency for strong feelings and extreme actions, hold grudges like no one else, and unlock their most dangerous powers through emotional trauma. What would Konoha do with a whole generation of Uchiha who lost their elders at the hand of their own village, especially if the conflict started because of perceived mistreatment? And there is no way to keep a secret that big from a whole generation either. As soon as those kids realized what was done to their parents, aunties, uncles, mentors, and the rest of their family, they would've burned Konoha to the ground or died trying.

I think Kishimoto did most of the stuff for the plot and if Itachi never killed his family half the show would not have happened or at least a big chunk of it.

I can somewhat understand that Itachi was a 13 year old kid standing between 2 different Kages and Danzo, who is one of the most capable manipulators in the series. So him making wrong decisions at that pont was understandable. What I don't understand is what he did with Akazuki. He wanted to protect the village, OK. But his way of doing so was to join a group of people who are actively working against Konoha to gather information which he couldn't deliver to anybody because everybody in Konoha thinks he's a traitor. Only exeptions would be Danzo, Minato and Hirozen. Danzo is shady as f***, Minato died when the ninetails attacked and Hirozen died when Orochimaru attacked (who as you said Itachi could have killed before that) So basically everything he does after leaving the village makes absolutely no sense.

The animators and writers from the show probably knew how fucked up the whole conception behind the character of Itachi was and had to create a filler in hopes to make Itachi massacring her entire clan more justifiable instead of showing the fact that the clan was right in fight the status quo and only aim for the higher ups of the village.

I always thought it was weird that even a 13 year old wouldn't have questioned killing the Whole clan. Like why the babies? There would be babies right? Sasuke was never said to be the youngest person in the clan. I would think everyone under 12 that isn't a ninja yet would be free loyal ninja to the leaf. Even as root soldiers! Why do you want me to kill my 3 year cousin that could be raised be completely loyal to you and possibly as strong as me? Like I honestly feel like if I was 13 and in that situation at the very least I might have tried to hide a few babies. It's mind boggling.

I think when Danzo took Shisui’s eye, he had an idea that Itachi somewhere had the other. He probably said something to the affect of “if koto would actually work to turn this revolt around, I’d have done it. So don’t think that a mere genjutsu will do anything but postpone this inevitable revolt.” As far as falling into the hands of Danzo, I believe Itachi was just blindly following Shisui’s path.

Kotoamatsukami can only be used once every 10 years unless you have hashirama cells and it has very limited range so its not like he could have gathered every uchiha and put them under the genjutsu and it cannot be used on somebody with a visual prowess massively higher than the users

first off, any sort of revolt by the uchia would still be alot better then killing them all off and only leaving 1 when the world literally relies on those eyes to stop the tysukomi. think about it if they killed sauske they woulda lost agaisnt madara in a heart beat

@@soulsreaper7145 If you think about it, if Itachi was caught in the middle and didn’t run away, he alone would wipe out a majority of Konoha, and other nations would def take the opportunity to invade. If Minato were around it would be a different story, but he wasn’t. I promise you that a 13 year old who has seen war and killed people had a mind warped by PTSD. The revolt would have absolutely lead to the entire annihilation of the Uchiha unless he were to defect. But then, all the rest of the Uchiha would die anyways, and the village would def lose a crazy number of their fighting force. If we were to assume that koto would not have worked, this conclusion led to the least number of absolute deaths possible.

We can't blame Shisui either, and he didn't "give up his eye to Danzo". The monster ripped it out of Shisui's eye. The blame solely falls on Hiruzen (however you spell that). That old hag was useless and enabled every major threat in the village.

Itachi was branded a 'gifted child', of course he's going to make horrible decisions because he keeps bypassing the obvious solutions. Honestly, him being bafflingly irrational is one of the most realistic elements of the narrative, paradoxically enough.

@@abcd6304 I do not. Gifted children are very much people who get singled out as intelligent and wise beyond their years. And frequently they are. However, this means that people treat them like full grown adults way before they're ready and as a result, they quickly burn out and self-destruct. There's also just a whole bunch more I could say about the hows and whys of 'gifted children' making horrible decisions, but if you're interested, The Healthy Gamer goes into more comprehensive explanations about the phenomenon.

As much as I adore Itachi, the whole part of his story where he "has" to kill his clan to stop the coup, I never understood. I never understood why he couldn't get Hiruzen to simply talk to Fugaku. I also never understood why he "had" to instill hate in Sasuke's heart. And his father's eyes? Come on, he killed him, I don't think his father would have minded, especially since, in the anime at least, it seems like he forgave him.

What has bothered me about Itachi is that I believe when he gave Naruto the crow he said that he was wrong to try and fix everything by himself. Yet he comes back as edo tensi and still trying to fix everything by himself. He ran hard from Sasuke instead of including him.

That last part was because of Shisui's eye, programmed to protect the leaf. Itachi sees "Undo edo-tensei" as protecting the village. It isn't that he's trying to fix everything himself or ignore Sasuke when he's back, he's just carrying out the order that was placed.

I've been saying his character's plotline was ill written for YEARSSSS. There were so many character contradictions and other options. It NEVER made sense to me that he killed his entire clan. Bad writing is why I stopped watching DBZ. I'll never forgive them for what they did to Gohan after the cell saga🥲😭.

@@WyattStrange too be honest the real reason Naruto and Sasuke lost there powers is the power scaling got too damn high they also lost there borrowed powers of hagamoro otsutsuki when they sealed kaguya they got from Shippuden.Boruto is not all bad its just when Kara organization or an otustusuki appears only Naruto and Sasuke can stop them which makes the Boruto story lack suspense or used too.the rest of the old gen kinda suck since the old gen never learn any new jutsu.the only old gen that has interest in learning any new jutsu is Temari.in my opinion there are old gen characters like choji with zero feats who had a cheat device jutsu pill that can make choji use only one jutsu he has seen once get zero character development afterwards from 1 big fight that one from the sound four garu even though sound four garu would kill choji yes realty vs expactation.its worse since I have come across konahamru fans saying he should have masterd 20 different jutsu when konahamuru was taught only by naruto. Boruto is pretty easy to understand when its just the new gen doing normal ninja missions and developing jutsu not focusing on old gen or Kara it makes sense there ,but when a big bad guy shows up that the new gen of Boruto can not handle it Naruto and sauske are the only ones who can stop it or used too since recent episodes Naruto and sasuke lost Kurama and Rinnegon due sacrifice against ishiki ototsuki.they should of have not introduced Kara early that way Naruto and Sasuke would not need to make a sacrifice it would give all the new gen more focus too keep up with Kara in the long run so they would not need Naruto and Sasuke in the time skip for Boruto.i do like the Boruto gen hybrid just combo they are going for the new Boruto gen I just wish Naruto Sasuke were not always a main answer for manga Boruto cannon threats but I know every old gen except Garaa would get clapped by Kara that's because Naruto Shippuden cucked development for the rest of the side teams.

@@lapplandkun9273 the power creep of Boruto was always going to happen because the Otsusuki threat exsits.the bad writing of Boruto only affects Naruto and Sasuke to a little degree however the rest of the rest old gen go unscathed from any type of writing since they are not overpowered like Naruto and Sasuke are.Boruto's good writing and character development only happen when the Boruto new gen need more development like I said before when the Boruto story focus on the new gen its actually good writing its just when Naruto and Sasuke are on screen it goes to shit.

Gohan got turn into a weapon at a young age...He didn't like to fight,Gohan was force and he was all use up at the end of the Artificial human arc after his mind was warped against cell. So it's realistic that he became a use up weapon after the events against cell. Yes it's bad writing that toriyama made Gohan became fodder against boo but Toriyama told the story of"this what happens when you forcing using a weapon without care it gets wash up or damaged" through Gohan.

It's a long time ago now, but I stumbled across, either a post or a video, where someone had translated an interview with the creator. In that interview they talked about Itachi, and the creator said that he had originally planned for Itachi to just be evil, so when his editors said they actually wanted him to be a good guy, he suddenly had to come up with some reason as to why his actions could be seen as a good thing.

And I agree with EVERYTHING you've said, I've always thought about these points too like wtf smh. Killing Danzo instead of his whole clan would've literally prevented 90% of all the events in Naruto lmao. He'd be able to live with his family ALIVE and still save Konoha smh. But hey we'd never have this version of Itachi nor Naruto the anime at all if he did make those simple decisions, oh well.

The problem you're forgetting with that is Danzo is a leaf elder and a former konoha ninja. Itachi would have been tried and possibly declared a rogue nin for killing a seemingly innocent man who did no wrong and committed no crimes.

Man you really brought a lot of good points, I've been contemplating how I feel about Itachi and now I currently say I dislike him. I'm cool with that though and great video.

A lot of details in this video are from the novels, and then some from the anime filler arc. I was expecting more criticism based on the manga itself, but oh well. I don't remember the novels that well, but when I re-read them I'll think about what you said. But here are some thoughts so far: - in Tobi's retelling of Madara's backstory (to Sasuke), Madara defected from the Uchiha that turned their backs on him. Obito himself didn't care about anyone in the real world, uchiha included, and just had sadistic tendencies. Isn't it also implied Obito's parents are dead/gone and he lives with like his grandma or something? - I don't think Shisui's eye that Itachi got was functional, since Itachi told Naruto he couldn't use it on Sasuke because it takes so long to charge (implying it had already been used). - If you're gonna meme Itachi showing Sasuke the clan dying again, that was because Itachi wanted to die by Sasuke's hands because of the guilt he felt for killing the Uchiha, as he says himself. He literally said he used Sasuke to get himself killed by an Uchiha, he didn't only do these things to protect and help Sasuke.

Thank you, this video is not analyzing all the datas and getting a conclusion, he's supporting his own conclusion and just tries to make it work. I understand that there are SOME inconsistences but those are because kishimoto didn't have time to plan everything ahead, it's not Itachi's bad decisions, it's clear from the story that the civil war and a massacre were inevitable. This guy making it seem Itachi was a fool who just forgot he had kotoamatsukami while it was clearly the inactive eye, Itachi is ten times smarter than that he was thinking like a wise old man at like 5, he was thinking just like Hiruzen, but he also understood the coup was inevitable and it would have led to the destruction of konoha, FOR SURE, so he decided to act like Danzo

@@ludovicocroce9229 Agreed. Itachi was only put there to stop the coup via kill the Uchiha. Shisui was dead and Danzo was also in possession of the eye not just Itachi. It was not his fault a coup in his clan was happening, and it wasn’t his fault the nine tails attacked. Had the coup happened the village would be in ruins and would be too weak to fend off envaders such as the Akatsuki and other villages. He overall saved the village at the expense of the few but what other options were there in so little time. Fugaku would have went on with the coup but he would never harm his own child.

I'm going to be honest, I genuinely NEVER ONCE understood when people said "Itachi had to do what he did, he's the kindest shinobi" when with the slightest bit of forethought he could of prevented so much misery. He's an ignorant pawn at best and completely stupid at worst.

You're forgetting a few things ; -Obito didn't extract the 9 tails to destroy, rather to start a tension between the Uchiha and the entire village. He knew that the Uchiha would be blamed. -Obito had already brainwashed Fugaku's man into believing that the Coup was the only solution. Using Kotoamatsukami on Fugaku was pointless, even itachi said it. -Itachi couldn't have did anything because within the Uchiha yard, Danzo had spies. Danzo had twins in Root who took turns pretending to be 1 of the Uchiha, 1 of them 1 was Itachi's former teammates. Danzo had LONG monitored Itachi. -As for the Obito bit, it's what "Madara" wanted. Key reason is shown in Shippuden when Obito was transplanting Itachi's eyes... There were jars full of Sharingan behind them

A few points: -its not explicitly stated as to why obito decided to attack the village. At first glance it seemed to be that he wanted the 9 tails for the 10 tails but on further analysis that doesn't really make sense. In the storm games he states it's to create tension between the 5 nations so his movements will go unnoticed and that certainly makes sense, but to say it was specifically to hurt the uchihas image I think is a bit of a stretch, though not impossible. - I do not remember obito ever having any of fugakus men under hypnosis. I could be wrong so could you tell me when this happened? -i also don't remember the twins spying on the uchiha within their own ranks. They monitored them form outside yeah but the reason Itachi was so valuable was because he and shisui were insider information. - yeah obito had a personal grudge against the uchiha and probably would've killed them later down the line anyways but that grudge came from what was probably childhood mistreatment and a knowledge that the uchiha would probably be a thorn in his side if they were to go against him

Madara wasn’t thrown out of konoha he left on his own. He left because he saw that only the Senju and those they favoured would be the ones to lead the Village and that no Uchiha would be put in a real position of power. He also saw that they would slowly become outcasts which they eventually did. When he tried to convince his Clan of this they turned their backs on him. Obito didn’t have any parents. In the manga he lived on his own and in the anime he lived with his Grandmother who would probably be dead by the time he came back to help eradicated the clan.
