A slight correction, Dom Perignon wasnt the first premium champagne, Crystal predates it by 50 years, but it wasnt publically available and only produced for the Tsars of Russia. That being said one thing that should have been touched upon is the agablity of Tete du Cuvee champagnes. Dom Perignon can age for 50 or more years in your cellar if you want therefore can be bought decades before use and is more appropriate for drinking during special events which planning is involved(and pairing) most MV champagnes only will age for 4-8 years so they are more appropriate for spur of the moment events. And things like prosecco are great for parties with maybe people that are neutral towards wine because it is easier to make mimosas or bellinis if the bottle only costs 10 dollars
Great videos. I have enjoyed Dom Perignon on a couple of occasions, and for grand celebrations it is perfection.
As a connoisseur of champagne and who's first bottle was the 1996 Louis Roederer Cristal, yes Dom Perignon is worth it.
So right you are, there is definitely a strong element of subjectivity in all wine preferences. I have newer liked sparkling anything, be it soft drink or wine. I actually get an uncomfortable sparkling in my nose and if I drink sparkling drinks quickly I get hiccups. So yes please give me a fresh quality Riesling or Chardonnay instead of a glass of champagne.
i came here looking for another opinion on don perignon because im in the industry and its always nice to have another take on a product i sell. pleasantly surprised he went into his clothes after the video, created another level of depth into the world of luxury and fine living. will be coming back for more
Mr Schneider, I have to say this is an excellent video and you pointed out the most important point: if you want to enjoy it properly you should be willing to be open to the message delivered by the wine and be receptive to it. A couple of advices from a french person who obviously loves this one in particular: 1 move away from the traditional flute and try to go for a more classical wine glass, the champagne will open better this way. 2- for great champagnes we use to say that this is more wine than bubbles so the wine aspect should come before the bubbles. Don't drink it as an appetizer but rather at table with your diner. Open your palate during the appetizer with a simpler champagne like any of the "brut" version you showed in your videos, then start your diner with your dom perignon, with a beautiful fish like "turbo" or even lobster and a sauce not too rich, you'll see that you'll take this to the next level. Finally if you want the equivalent from veuve cliquot (as you mentioned veuve cliquot at the start of your video) go for a "grande dame", absolutely fabulous as well !

Great gastronomic advice, Florent Lago. You must dine very well. And I cheerfully agree with La Grande Dame from Veuve Cliquot is excellent Champagne at a higher level like Dom Perignon.

I collect Champagne as a hobby and all of my glasses approximate a white wine glass. Even prestige glass makers such as Riedel have moved away from flutes in all but their least expensive lines. Upon reflection it makes perfect sense. After all, what is Champagne but a fantastic white wine? If you purchase gift sets (wine plus glasses in one box) from the major producers the included glasses will be the white wine style. If you don’t have Champagne-specific glassware, s glass designed for Pinot Noir or Nebbiolo will work well as will a glass designed for a rose’.
Excellent content as usual! Happy new year!
I love when you upload videos and it helps improve my style
I now understand “cups of the rose” from Marvins room thanks Rafael
Thank you, this was very informative. I have no idea how to evaluate champagne. I generally buy Deutz for special occasions and a Sourdet-Diot for when I want a sparkling wine. SD is an independent champagne producer in the champagne region. But like anything else, it is all a matter of taste. Cheers

Heston Blumenthal once did a taste-test in London's banking district with cheap Blue Nun white wine for about 1.99£ a bottle, fizzed up in a soda-stream machine, and real Champagne. Half of the city-boys and -girls preferred Blue Nun...
Very informative. Excellent research and work!
I like the room with the leather couch and the peacock in the background. That's your best background yet. Would make an excellent signature theme for your programs. Sure beats the white out background but I know that's for showing certain clothes and colours.
I enjoyed this video more than i should have. I didnt know some of these points even when I was a bartender.
I love how you put in the effort to actually pronounce these names correctly. Also, what shirt is that? I see it has stripes woven into it, which reminds me of old tuxedo shirts when the marcella bib wasn't as standardized yet and multiple varieties of pleated and interesting woven striped shirts existed.
I'd love to see Fort Belvedere spread into clothing other than accessories. Shirts, shoes, and suits would be more than welcome, and going off of the past, I'm sure the quality and fit would be unmatched!
Am I the only one rewinding the video to catch the pronunciations.. I just love the accent.. lovely thanks for sharing
I do not really like champagne but I really liked the video! I also had no idea the fact about the vintage of dom perignon, now I might try one since I love good wine. I think I will organise a tasting evening with a few friends that also like it. That way we will also share the cost.

Please does anybody know where I can buy those green slippers? Or even just the brand name so I may search for them?
Really like the review. Watching this as I sip on some Dom Perignon with my girlfriend. Complex flavors!!
What a sumptuous video. So well staged, I was drawn in.
Nice presentation. I would suggest that you serve the Dom first and the second and subsequent bottles can be a Moët.
I adore your videos. I appreciate your style.
Can you saber a vintage bottle from the 80's?
good on the point, however you can't really compare Champagne with Prosecco. In common they only have bubbles (not even tbh). A good comparison would be between a Champagne and a Franciacorta which shares the same vinification method.
I bought my mom for her birthday a bottle of P2 2000 and it was lovely. Definitely worth it!
What is a similar taste to Dom Perignon that is basically cheap in comparison but similiar in profile?
It would seem one of the main reasons Dom Perignon is so much more expensive, is that it has to subsidize itself for all of the years where they do not produce anything. They still have to maintain their infrastructure at all times, so if you have nothing being produced from 2010-2014, you cannot let your company go under, so I imagine a lot of the profits during the years where they produce is used to maintain themselves during those off years. Can you imagine if a company like Apple took five years off of producing anything? They would probably go out of business.
For the relatively low cost of the Perrier Jouet, I just can't see past it. Yet to try the Belle Epoque but it's on the list.
Oh dear how i cant stop loving this gentleman.
Is there a 1995 vintage?
What kind of Dom P were people drinking in 1997 cause I don’t recall seeing one that year
Raphael, I am an aficionado of traditional Scottish dress. Do you have a Prince Charlie or Argyll suit? I much prefer them as formal wear over dinner suits.
I collect fine Champagne and sparkling wine as a hobby. While I do have several bottles of Dom Perignon in my collection, it’s definitely not my favorite. At that price point, there are others that are better, and some better ones are even less expensive. Never underestimate the contribution that a proper glass makes to the drinking experience. With the right glass (NOT a coupe or flute) even a modest sparkling wine can be elevated to lofty heights.

I had my first one 3 years ago on Mykonos, mixed it with Blackberry Cyder after the first sip.....was not bad after that. ;)
I see that the dinner jacket is Holland and Sherry cloth, but who made it for you?
This is the second video I have seen list Dom Perignon as a $150 bottle. Where is it sold for that low? In my experience, Dom Perignon always sits around $200-$250 in the US. I'm referring to liquor stores, too. Not marked-up clubs or restaurants. The lowest price I have found it, is in only one Rhode Island store for $185-$189. Most stores in RI have it for $200-$225 and in higher tourist cities and states from Boston to Miami to LA, I have seen it run from $225-250 on average. I once found it being sold for $300 in a store in Vegas. I've never seen one for $150.

Dom 2010 was produced, but this was a brilliant video.
I prefer a Long Island Ice tea over Dom Perignon or wine, but that's just me. I was asked to bring a wine or champagne to a New Year's party so here I am researching. Nice video.

Debating on getting my Dad a bottle of either Dom Perignon or Armand De Brignac (Ace of Spades). Which one do you recommend as the better option? I want to get him the best because he deserves it!
@jdwilkins2000
Жыл бұрын
Get him anything ahead of "Ace of Spades" it is absolute trash! It is sleezy Cattier non vintage champagne (used to sell for around $30 per bottle), stuck in a fancy bottle. Multi Vintage (as opposed to non vintage) Krug is always a good choice as well. the 2008 Dom is excellent, as is the 2008 Louis Roederer Cristal Brut or the 2008 Taittinger Comtes de Champagne Blanc de Blancs. Your Dad would be thrilled with any of these.

Sir, you didn't mention the maturing aspect at all. According to my experience most of the prestige champagnes (especially DP) do benefit from extra-cellaring. If you taste the recent vintage, it rarely expresses the reason why it's so expensive. IMO you should not drink DP before 16-18yr has passed from the vintage it's made! There are some variation if the vintage was not exactly good, so then it might work a bit sooner. Same applies to Comtes, Cristal etc
I love your Peacock !
I don't know... I always found Dom Pérignon to have a similar bitterness to that of Moët & Chandon's Nectar Impérial. Not to say it's a bad thing, I just found myself liking White Star more. Which was my go-to champagne for years, until they changed the name of it to Imperial. Which honestly tastes closer to the previously mentioned two bottles than White Star, not really sure what happened there.
@jdwilkins2000
11 ай бұрын
just a note for you, White Star was originally named for the White Star Steamship line, which included the Titanic. It was served to the first class passengers only.
Why is there still no video about the bowler hat?
It comes down to taste at the end of the day. No wine is automatically better because of its cost, and both taste and sensitivity to taste will vary between people. First, if you have a sensitive palate, then all champagnes *will* taste different to you - they are most definitely not all the same, the variation is significant. Second, if check (1) and you prefer the taste of one champagne over the other, then you have to decide if it's worth the money or not. I've been to several champagne tastings and I know what my favourite champagnes are, but I've never bought a bottle of any of them, because I don't think they're worth the money compared to ones I like nearly as much that cost much less.
Excellent video & slippers!
Good video, But in my opinion you should have compared champagne to cremant and Franciacorta, not prosecco. Franciacorta is a lot closer to champagne as it is made. Prosecco is a cheaper but flavorful wine. IMHO
Big Mac's taste the same in India?
I love Pol Roger it was Winston’s favorite as well.

You'll get more of an experience from a wine like Dom if you understand and enjoy champagne through it's many price ranges.
I’ve never had Dom Perignon and while I’d like to try it, I’m in no hurry. I’ve yet to drink a bad champagne. I’ve never had the absolute cheapest - I draw the line at AU $40 at the bottom and AU $90 at the top - and I’m not aware of anything I’ve had above that. But there’s such a great selection I’m not going to get sick of them. I like the Heidsieck labels, Monopole and Piper, and I like the Perrier labels in that range too. Love Lanson, Moët, Veuve Cliquot, Pommery, Taittinger and there are lots more I’ve never tried (even Bollinger). So Dom is a way off yet and it will have to duke it out with Krug.
