Not to kill the vibe but to me the jazz sounded more define in the mix and the tone is straight up funky. Great playing!

The Fender easily wins this challenge ! But in fairness with each bass there are different woods, and also I believe the jazz bass has single coils, and I believe the F bass may have humbuckers. But forget all of that, personally the Fender Jazz just sounds better, it’s about the cost or who has better woods

Fbass has stacked single coils. I think the biggest difference here is going from maple fretboard to ebony. If I could reorder my fbass, I would go maple.

It's got to be the ebony chilling things out. My maple board Fbass sounds like your jazz. Mine is anything but polite but in a good way. I wouldn't mind having an ebony fb version. Yours sounds great!

I hate to say that I wish I would have gone with the maple fretboard. You can tame the bite, but it’s hard to add it

@Tyler Ray Hughes good excuse to get another one, lol! I've always thought of ebony fb as the part of a violin that makes it smooth sounding. Rosewood would've been my choice, but I got mine already made. No regrets on the maple though.

I had a BN5 ages ago, and continue owning all sorts of Jazz basses. True that the latter has more inherent growl and brightness, while the BN5’s are ‘polite’. The main thing one pays for is the feel of the instrument. Also check out the huge volute on the F, that neck ain’t breaking easy.

Fender tone is so iconic that it almost feels like an unfair comparison, no matter which bass you're comparing it to. I absolutely love the tone of my Fender bass, but I also love my Ken Smith basses and my Alembic. The Fender sound is so nice and gritty that it is almost beyond compare.

100% agree, this will be one of the videos i probably remove when i get monetized lol. Just doesn't make sense to compare. I love using my fbass for recordings for independent artists. i love taking my fender to funk gigs. Many ways to make a coffee.

Both basses sound nice. I'd choose the Fender for live gigs to cut through the mix better, and the Fbass for studio work or to enjoy playing alone.

@@tylerrayhughesGlad to hear that the Fender has earned more attention! :) Have you tried Warmoth? I highly recommend their Jazz and Precision parts, especially their rock-solid necks...the heavier and the older the better. My main gigging passive Warmoth parts Jazz/Precision hybrid bass is absolutely incredible and it cost me less than a standard USA Fender. It has a one-piece alder jazz body with Fender "originals" pickups, a precision neck consisting of a goncalo alves neck shaft with steel reinforcement rods flanking the truss rod, and a thick Macassar ebony fretboard with block inlays. Incredibly solid, it never moves even in humid weather, and there isn't a dead spot anywhere on it. :)

@@marcoanello891 sounds like an awesome bass! I have used a Warmoth in the past and really enjoyed it. It wasn’t mine however and I never got one for myself. We actually ended up taking the frets out of it lol. 😂

I feel you completely. I am 5 string player myself. I play Xotics (P5/PJ5). I also own '73 original P with Thomastik flats on it. That P sounds best of them. But I still incline to Xotic because its more ergonomic and in live setting allows greater control and consistency. But I am sorry to disappoint, that cheapo JB sounded just better for this particular exercise (again, I fully understand why you prefer your F bass; I am sure I would too :-) ).

They both sounded really good. The F Bass had a more round/warmer sound to me where as the Fender Jazz was more bright with some more growl. Both sat well in the mix, just two very distinctly different animals.
