Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

Let's take a look at the differences between the factory installed Precision Matthews DRO for the PM-728 mill and a ToAuto DIY budget kit off of Amazon or eBay for a lathe or mill. Thanks! This is a great perspective. For someone in business with a shop rate of $100, $150 or more it makes sense to buy 'ready to use' tools. For the hobbyist paying for everything out of pocket, maybe the budget is more of a factor. I watched every one of your treadmill motor videos and all of the related videos on powering them. Then I bought a 3 phase 3 hp lathe that was actually big enough for the work I do as a volunteer machinist on a historic restoration project. I'm still appreciative of the knowledge gained.

It's all about that balance between time, money, and quality. Glad you liked the videos. The 3 phase setup should be amazing. I have always said treadmill motors are good but VFD is beter in every way EXCEPT cost

I've got the factory DRO on my Precision Matthews mill also. Mine's the next size smaller mill than yours, but I am extremely happy that I went with the factory install!

Great video. What I am curious about is accuracy of the 2 compared and repeatability.

Good question!, they are both equally accurate. Both read to .0001 and the parts I have made reflect that.

I really like the TouchDRO. Especially the fact that it is upgraded often with new features.

What concerns me about it is that it’s based on an app updated by a very small company and when he decides to retire or to stop updating it then what. I’m sure the function is superior but I don’t want to buy a DRO setup twice. Also not a fan of having to replace android tablets over time.

@@SlabforkhomesteadWhen he decides to retire, the app won't be updated and then it turns into a traditional DRO. It won't instantly stop working.

likely at retirement he would sell to another company and so it would still be available

@@BellyUpFishonly for so long until the tablet technology outpaces the app and the app becomes outdated and unable to be used on modern devices of the time. Also, how often is the tablet that runs it going to have to be replaced, every 5-8 years maybe? It’s super cool and I’m sure more useful than a traditional DRO but I think the concerns are valid.

I ordered my 833TV with the same DRO installed, mostly because I had zero experience with them and wanted to be sure it was done right. When I ordered my lathe I ordered it with a DRO uninstalled and did it myself and was glad that I did, even though cost wasn’t really an issue. I spent a couple of days on the lathe getting it just right but I was able to make spacers so I can still use the cross slide lock. I also wasn’t sure where they were going to put the display and I wanted to decide on that for myself. On my mill I ended up moving the display bar from the back of the mill and mounting it to the wall next to the machine, and on the lathe I located it above the headstock gearbox.

For sure there are advantages both ways. Having now done two DIY installs I know I could have put it on the mill but is sure was nice not having to.

In my case, money is a very big issue and I learned a lot watching others install them. Added to my skill level. That's why I spent hours making an edge finder that you can buy for $15. LOL. Getting better at making stuff the size it needs to be to work.
