IS IT ANY GOOD? | DEEP ROCK GALACTIC SURVIVOR

Ойындар

It’s not really “survival” if you put yourself in the situation though is it? If you jump into the bear pen at the zoo you aren’t some cool survivor, surviving a difficult situation, you’re the idiot gonna get eaten by bears. So, duh.

I hope they stay clear from the mobile phone market. There just doesn't seem to be a known way to do monetization in a non-predatory way on mobiles. And short of giving it away for free, Ghost Ship would fail to implement a working and fair monetization model or totally wreck their reputation by becoming greedy like Blizzard with Diablo Immortal

@@mumblecake251 Don't mistake the lack of games doing something to there not being a known way. So many AAA games have really predatory monetization even after a price tag of $60. Yet here DRG is with an extremely fair way to monetize. Frankly I don't see why a similar monetization plan wouldn't work on mobile games. Its not hard to find reviews of bad apps where people have dropped cash on it, if people are willing to drop cash on bad apps then surely on good ones they will as well. Theres also mobile games with only optional ads, watch ad get xp boost for x amount of time or for x amount of missions. (not saying if drg survivor goes mobile it should do that, just that its much less predatory than majority of mobile game monetization)

@@justacameraman4900 If Ghost Ship managed to make their formula for non-intrusive monetization work in the mobile space I would be a very happy bunny to be proven wrong. I do think however that it would be very challenging and potentially risky as if they get it wrong they might damage their reputation. I think only time will tell if they will have a go at it. They will probably wait to see if the PC version is a success before committing to any extra development.

Nation Red is a really old survivor-like from 2010, it has 3 ways to progress your perks in a run. Traditional "Pick from the list," a free-for-all where you can pick any perk but you are level capped so you can't get more than like 1/3 of all the perks, and an auto select that randomly picks from a pool of perks you decide on before you start the game - essentially randomly picking one of the perks you like with no duds - which is similar to what you requested in the video so it has been done well before! I wish more survivor-likes used it.

Regarding the autoupgrade system the Soulstone Survivors implemented it into the game. After you collected all 6 weapons you wanted to collect you can toggle autoupgrade, which picks random ugrades from lvl up. You can also choose whether you want to upgrade at each lvl or just bind a key that opens upgrade menu, so you can stack 10-20 upgrades at once

Upgrade spam is a real thing. I watched a video the other day of Time Wasters to see if I might enjoy it (and I'm probably going to give it a go on my next paycheck tbh), and that game not only gives you lots of levels at the same time, it allows you to choose when you stop playing to go through your upgrades. I feel like the latter came about as a solution for the frequency with which the gameplay was being stopped for menu clicking.

That's true, but the thing is even BEFORE magic survival, I swear there was an old phone game like many years back that had almost the same system/game mechanic as these survivor games, I just didn't know the game name because I was too young and it was awhile ago couldn't remember the name, but the gameplay is almost similar, you're just in the middle of the desert/nowhere, running around hitting enemies that goes after you and you basically shoot fire out of a wand or sth, and you pick up little upgrades little by little until you're strong enough to fight bigger waves of enemies.

DRGS keeps the momentum going the whole time and does not stop. The effectiveness of mining minerals is very welcome too, as it both pockets you valuables and xp to give the run a quick boost. Honestly if I were making a survivor type of game I would just remove the options of upgrading x stat (its boring to look at) and replace it with giving the player an option to automatically upgrade a single stat every level up and focus more on the upgrades that changes the weapon (given every few levels obviously) that make it act differently (overclocks for example) and focus more on making builds that are unique enough that you can do each run

Yes, GSG mentioned in one of the dev streams that while Survivors is kinda "canon" as in they will try to keep the lore in the game relevant to the overall lore of DRG, some of the weapons in Survivors are going to be exclusive to that game and vice versa, there might be some weapons in DRG that won't make it into Survivors, but if the community really likes certain concepts from Survivors they will see if they can bring them to DRG. (A looot of people including myself bugged them about the Bug Taser)

Autopick is not such a good idea. the overclocks come with 6,12,18. It is definitely better to have 2 weapons on 18 than one on 25 and one on 11. With autopick you would no longer have any controls. At a certain level it would of course make sense again. Maybe as an option that you can turn on and off at any time in the level. This way you can increase your weapons in a targeted manner at the beginning and then switch them to automatic later.

Really good feedback! I agree in that I think the permanent upgrades being all laid out like that is pretty boring and they could do much better. I really dislike "number goes up +5%" as an upgrade, as it doesn't make me feel any more powerful or better equipped than anything unique to the game's mechanics or giving you more things you can do. Also, the "first playthrough is missing mechanics like the minimap or secondary objectives" really ticks me off. I hate when games do that to make you feel weak on the first try or that you're unlocking something that you should have from the very start anyway. With that said, I am really glad to see more games set in this universe, and they're on the right track with this one to make a fun entry in this relatively new genre.

I agree with this. Naming a genre based off of a game gives this idea that it should be like that original game and compared to it. So if I release a souls-like then it's immediately compared to Dark Souls (and all their games) but if I release say a first person shooter (not something like a Doom-like/clone) then it's kinda just rated on its own metrics.

biggest complaint i have is... forced weapon damage change. i get it you wanna test out different damage setups. but what i noticed is it gets too cluttered if i have both plasma, fire, electricity in my selection and then i have too many cards for different damages. + if i started to go for kinetic damages i loose my kinetic damage buffs and i no longer benefit from them... it is frustrating that my +100% kinetic damage then becomes completely obsolete and i cant deny the damage selection... wish i could wait for the next 5 more levels to choose again from bad rolls or have Nitra as a rolling for these as a selection. ive died too many times not realizing my weapons upgraded too much and i cant prevent damage selection anymore.

I feel like after grinding a bit to experience overclocks and such, the game is heavily overtuned past hazard 1. You struggle to do anything in hazard 2, enemies have preposterous amounts of HP, the swarm size is insane, guns feel like they do nothing, and most non-kinetic weapons seem like a huge trap. The only consistent build that doesn't feel like you shoot wet paper is a fully kinetic gold-tipped bullets and nitra powder setup and you start hoarding all the gold and nitra in the run. Everything else feels like it takes too much luck to set up. I managed to almost finish with pure electric, but it took too much effort. Status effect damage is practically useless. Electric damage does seemingly nothing, I can't tell if it stacks, and doesn't benefit from any of your other stats as far as I can tell. Getting fire damage requires you to waste an overclock on one of your weapons. Cryo damage doesn't feel like it has any significant slowing effect. Drones are horrible and feel like they hit practically no enemies most of the time. The Boltshark alternates between electric damage and another damage type so I don't know if it actually gets electric bonus damage from your upgrades on every shot. This is a mess.
