Fntastic are closing... but I have a suspicion Mytona, their "publishing" company won't... I bet they are closing the dev company to avoid lawsuit but keeping the publisher open to still get the cash when steam does the payout in a month lol... game is actually a rug pull

I don’t know that they made as much money as people think. There was a potential leak from one of the owners and it showed 200k units sold with 91k refunded almost immediately. And who knows when that was from, but even if they sold 100k it’s 4 million, less the steam 30%. Plus if they are to be believed, they owe their partners. So they may not walk away with much in the end. I hope they are in the red and get lawsuits.

Studio just announced official shutdown today, so it was absolutely a scam. The releaase felt like they panic slapped together whatever assests they used to make the fake gameplay trailers and last minute shit out an extraction shooter because it was the fastest and easiest thing to do. This is easily a few months to a year max of actual game development with a few years worth of assests just collecting dust.

Less than a year. The assets list they used - with file and folder structure - was released, and 80% of it is stuff released on the Unreal store in the past 8 months.

Its more likely they lost too much money from refunds and had to use what money they did make to pay off investors. Pretty common practice. I think its more likely what Eroktic was talking about. FN had a game, couldnt drop the build they wanted due to not paying their devs, instead of just cutting the project they likely launched to recoup cost and continue to develop if it sold well but didnt.

@OnlyRats_ yeah, their announcement for shutdown they mentioned the launch of The Day Before was a commercial failure and they are using what they have to pay off investors so that definitely sounds closer to the reality of it.

I'm just curious what happened to what we saw in those obviously fake gameplay trailers....I'm guessing it was just a very small concept build with it only being whatever vertical slice we saw; similar to whatever that EA mech suit game was where the entire reveal trailer was fake gameplay

Wanted to point out - The "armor-piercing" rounds? Did nothing. There were tests done against armor in game that showed all bullet types did the same amount of damage to armor, piercing, bleeding, etc. They didn't even attempt to add the attributes.

100 % yes steam needs to wake up to many games like this.

LOL Devs just shut the game down and closed to company, there's your answer!

If Ubisoft was smart, they would see the want for this game and jump on making something like what we wanted since they already have the assets from the division.

Everyone called it a scam since the beginning. The trailers were always suspicious. People bit the bait and here we are today. They had no intention of ever making a proper game. Rug pull gangsters. It feels like a crypto coin.

Considering they've been working on this for, what, 4, 5 years? This is pitiful. It really looks like they realized about a year ago "oh shoot, all we've been doing is pre-rendered videos of what we WANT the game to be like. Maybe we should actually make it." And after pinning together some barebones, generic, 3rd person mechanics, probably all pulled from assets in the store, they said "Meh, good enough. Now lets just copy and paste into the map all the sets we used in our scam videos and call it good."

I think this game was a great idea and could’ve been executed well. After hearing Eroktic’s video on how they took away features presumably because they stopped getting paid made it blatant. I think Slob had the right idea and I appreciate being one of the few channels to take a step back and point out still some of the good that was there and most of the bad but not just shitting on it to shit on it. I feel bad for those who weren’t paid for this game that could’ve been great and those who didn’t get their money back. Hopefully the next one will be better!

And literally right after this went live the devs announced that yes indeed, this was a scam. You’d think with no paid employees and the only overhead being a $300 asset pack, they’d at least wait for 1 update to pull the rug. Just shows how greedy they really are.

actually someone tallied up the assets they bought, and it came in a little under 5 grand, USD. they released 2 patches on launch day and said they were working on a third, then went quiet. not that i'm defending them, the scamming scumbags deserve everything they got coming to them. this will have repercusions for legit indie developers for decades to come, i honestly see the gaming landscape changing in big ways as a result of fntastics misadventures

People couldn't tell this wasn't a scam? It was a company with some quite small indie games underneath it's belt (The Wild Eight and The Radiant One), before it attempted to jump to a much larger market for a multiplayer extraction shooter. Most likely this was either their plan all along or they got taken over and used as a semi-credible company (They were headquartered in Signapore just before they announced they were shutting down but they originally started in Russia in Yakutsk) so it's likely that was the case. Plus people were already pointing out that some of these are just asset from the store.

I’m annoyed they hyped us up for something that was never coming. It’s frustrating for us consumers who want a solid game in this genre to always get short changed 😢

Reality here is that the engines like unreal and unity are quite popular, and it is possible to get much of the basics of a game going in a pretty straight forward process. To get to the point where this game is took a lot more than just the basics, but nowhere near what is needed to create a polished game. It looks exactly like a pre-alpha, nothing more. It is like the company internal version used to flesh out ideas and models while you are building the larger game and testing out the UI. I would really be curious to see how many real development hours are on this thing. Not the random numbers they might toss out there, but the actual time required to get to this point.

Sometimes I feel bad and wonder if they actually did try to make a game and not scam people. Then I remember the game was $40! Bodies disappeared instantly in a looter game. No vaulting or melee. Hardly any zombies at all. Armor and round piercing bullets don't do anything. Even if it wasn't intended as a scam, it's the worst $40 I've ever spent and the earliest access game I've ever played. They just threw Unreal assets on a map and charged people $40.

very obvious they were trying to expire people's 2 hour refund timer for steam. 5 years of development my ass. they were banking on the hope that steam wouldn't refund this. but i've heard from several people who have over 2 hours that they got refunds. steam needs to get their shit together with allowing games like this.

This is why you don't pre-order or contribute or even give games hype before you see it in full play. Streamers actually helped a scam cashout just buying it to see if it was a scam. A streamer would say" but I make videos like this so you don't have to buy it."But yet thousands of streamers/ content makers bought it to tell the same story we already knew four days ago. While the devs cashed out. Streamers actually helped the scam/cashout.

Its functionally a scam for consumers. Wheter or not it was designed as a scam is not possible to know yet.

100% scam they used the hype of this "amazing game" to advertise there other products and when people started getting mad cause the kept saying "it's coming soon" with no results, they bought a bunch of pre made assets threw em together , scrambled to get the trade mark and released this thing witch is not even they type of game they were promising, and it's barley playable. Now they are doing what they did to even other game they made and trashing it. It was a total scam

Great idea, bad execution. Should have been a free playtest for a limited time while they were finishing game and fixing bugs. They inappropriately used Early Access to allow the public to test their game on a large scale to find bugs and issues but made the public pay to do it. I think alot of people missed the print on what Early Access is and means and cancel culture has claimed another. Was it a good game, almost. Was it terrible, no. Plenty of new release games come with bugs, glitches, issues, etc. but The Day Before needed more time in the oven so to speak. Something that could have been great is dead in the water and we will never know what it could have been if FNTASTIC had just executed this differenlty. I think even a delay on release and worked more on the game by the devs would have been more acceptable by the masses. The bug that turned me off was where players could have and shoot guns in the base in Woodberry and kill other players and loot them without them being able to defend themselves. Tsk Tsk

A Russian developer (using a Singapore LLC, but no secret of them being from Yakutsk) makes a few simple unoriginal games to moderate success, then makes some promises, takes some money, pisses away the money, ships out some shit. Tale as old as as Postal 3.

This is why I don’t buy early access games anymore… or really play any game on launch… Game devs suck big time right now.

I feel like AAA game studios look at this and go "let's just make the same exact shifty game but add micro transactions" And that is how games are born kiddos

I never support or expect anything from early access games, every EA game develops very slow and most of them will never be finished product and a lot of them go in the wrong direction while being developed. I want finished product or at least 80% of the game at the start of release. EFT is last game that I bought in early access in 2017 and will never do it again with any other game.
