An INFJ seeks balance above all in everything and with everyone, this is why INFJ's are walking contradictions; therefore with more maturity of an INFJ they will be more content with someone who can do the same. I remain single as an INFJ because it is near impossible to find the depth in potential partners emotional, spiritual, mental and physical capacity that brings me peace in general with a man. It is exhausting trying to "camouflage" to extremes for extended periods in relationships. I found my rock in Christ though, so being single now doesn't burn my heart anymore. May the peace of Christ that surpasses all understanding be with u also Frank James, and thanks for ur helpful video content on INFJs!

@Telisha3 Claiborne amen sister! 100% truth! Thanks for sharing a bit of your story... I know what u mean feeling "surreal" in relating to someone else in this world BC well "people" "like" "us" are "rare" so most of us grow up feeling super odd inside! Lol :) I think we as INFJs feel that longing to belong with people and a soulmate more than can be understood BC of that reality. It's intrinsic! I realize now with wisdom that I have my place just like others have theirs, not greater, just different. It is a relief to know there are others like me, even if I am howling to the wind just to hear a faint howel back once in a while. When I am down about relationships or the cares of this world I try my best to remember that life is bigger than my own prosperity, taking comfort in the knowledge that all things work toward the good of those who love the Lord. Regardless all INFJs have a special capacity to touch and help others in a deeper way, and that is our gift to the world... This is our happy place and our unique calling, which I find my purpose in and fuels me to keep going. I'm sure u can relate ;) May God abundantly bless u and all ur own Felisha in our Lord Jesus Christ until that day we are delivered to the next life eternal!

@Telisha3 Claiborne so true and awesome! We all have a destiny greater than ourselves. Thank u for sharing, it is a very encouraging testimony :) It's very interesting to think about life on a deeper level, that's what we wish to do with everything right! Dig to the bottom.. seeking to divide bone and marrow stuff to find ultimate truth. I am so grateful I found the Lord a few years back, without him my weird personality minority just left me with much personal pain I could not make sense of. Knowledge is powerful and a great help, but none can trump the creator of knowledge, and we INFJs know it's best to go straight to the original source to resolve any problem or puzzle ;) Take care dear, thank you very much for ur care. Shalom my friend!

As a developed empath, we naturally release more hormones that give a sense of comfort and ease to those around us, that in turn makes anyone around us more likely to open up. I myself am an INFJ-T and am a cognitive empath studying Conciousness and Human Potential along with Cognitive Psychology, I've been studying these interactions for years now and that's become the only scientifically logical explanation yet.

@@Insigneon I think our relationship is very harmonious. We are very observant, so there are things that we don't need to express in words... and that's pretty good, 'cause it's tiring to explain ourselves often to others, sometimes we just look at ourselves and think "I think she/he is happy or uncomfortable with this". The fact that INFJs are stupidly honest and reserved also helps, because despite being quiet on the outside and messy on the inside, we are very fair and frank, in other words: there is no middle ground if I don't like something... I don't like it and that's it, there are no “hidden words" behind what I say or what he says. Also, we are both strangers, almost as if we were an old couple in our early 20s, 'cause we prefer to travel to quiet places, we don't really like parties or places full of people and we focus more on resolving things than putting them under the carpet. Anyway, I fell in love with his strange way and he accepted me in my strange way too. It's kinda funny, I know.

I'm an INFJ who ended up marrying another INFJ. The funny thing is, neither of us took the MB test until we had been married more than a dozen years. Neither of us knew we were INFJs, we just both always felt sort of different and "removed" from the rest of the people. (Side note: I took the test first, and then told him about it, because I wanted to see which type I had ended up with...and then he came back as INFJ as well. We both took the test multiple times, over a few months, and both came back INFJ every time.) The best part: Finding a person who really DOES relate is like no other feeling. Two very challenging parts: First, the empathy overload. Example: For whatever reason, say he feels anxious, which I pick up on. Now I feel anxious, which he picks up on, and then he feels guilty because he knows his anxiety caused mine, now we're both more anxious...that's not fun, and sometimes breaking the empathy bubble means just getting to different physical locations for a while. It took us a long time to figure that one out. The second challenging thing is sort of related to that: INFJs need a ton of private, personal, decompression time. So a really rewarding evening around my house can look something like sitting in separate rooms not talking about anything...because every conversation turns into philosophy, and I was just wondering what we should eat for dinner. Ha! So...enjoy that little window into paradise.

Same here, I've been in a relationship with an INTJ for almost 3 years and it's a fricking good and balancing match! There're enough similarities to connect your minds on many things and make it really easy to understand the other person but there're differences to balance out your bad qualities as well. We also have similar family backgrounds and values which definitely makes it better as well, not only the type. :)

How I get along with others depends on their maturity, more so than their type. And it doesn't necessarily reflect age, either. Those that can engage in difficult conversations with respect and kindness will come to equitable solutions for all involved.

I've accepted him after 16 years because he's adopted my view of always being perfectly honest with each other 😆 He's actually the only person I've ever opened up to fully. We've also both had traumatic childhoods in which we both were on our own by the age of 13 years old. We both want to make a safe home for our 5 children. Our eldest is 15 and we feel grateful that he is still living in his parents' home. ❤ We united in purpose to make the next generation more whole than we were.

I can answer that question for you, James. INFJs value “differences” very much. This is out of an understanding that it can enhance overall “quality”. You actually said it yourself. Complementing is ideal to us as it creates harmony. Balance in all things is top priority for us. Yet, nonetheless, no two INFJs are truly the “same” completely so it’s highly possible that two would make the best pairing for each other. Why? Because one of the biggest insecurities, any, INFJs would have is not feeling understood. Which is a hard task for any other personality type to do. We are rare after all.

Being an INFJ does not define all that you are! My love and I (both INFJ) have very different backgrounds and are therefore very different people. Our relationship is like a safe haven to us. Sure, we have to force ourselves to go out, because we know we have to socialize more...or else we would end up more and more cooped up until paralyzed and pasted to the bed :D He doesn't feel neglected, when I'm in "dreamland" and I don't bother him, when he has his nose in a book. And when one of us is down in the dumps, we would just cuddle and talk for as long as it takes to feel more at ease again. But that doesn't mean that we don't get things done. We talk things over, share the chores and things work out...in a more slow manner, I admit, but as long as the end result is met it's fine, right? So here is my verdict...Holy grail? Nope. Safe haven? You bet!

Neither is shy about deep exploration, and we bring each other that element of understanding that doesn't come naturally. When INTP gets too thinky, INFJ brings it back down to earth. When INFJ gets too far out to sea, INTP brings the clarity.

I also have an INFJ as a partner and it is amazing! We found each other over the internet, cuz that's is where we can find INFJs, irl there are so so low chances of finding them. One thing that I am so so happy about is that we don't have huge fights or tension between us. We communicate, we are honest, we don't hold back from asking for forgiveness when something goes wrong, even if it's a small thing and we genuinely do things for one another and help one another. I was in a 10 years relationship with an narcissistic ESTP and yes, I am sure of what I say. Things got from bad to worse, he became more and more toxic till I couldn't go on any longer. Tried everything that I could, even marriage, but to no avail. And after all that horrible experience, this one with my INFJ partner seems like heaven, no kidding😍 I truly thank God for helping me. I was miserable for so long, cried and suffered, but it paid off, in the end, thank God. So for you other INFJs out there, you can find another INFJ on the internet, cuz you have very very very low chances of meeting an INFJ irl. So don't hold back, go on reddit - subreddit -INFJ or INFJ chats on Discord following a link from the site called "Introvert dear". Just try it, cuz it is worth it.

I am an INFP and I have been 4 years in a relationship with an INFJ. When we met, we had an incredible connection neither of us had ever experienced, everything just felt right. 4 years later, he truly is my safe place, and the only person with whom I don't feel drained. Sometimes I think we are total opposites, but then there are times where I feel like we're the same, so there is a weird complementing aspect to these two types. We have a lot of differences, but we always find a middle ground where we both feel balanced, I think we share enough differences to keep it interesting while also sharing lots of similarities (ideals, interests and most importantly, our ways of showing affection/communicating). Another thing I believe helps with this compability is the fact that he is very in touch with his own values, and probably uses Introverted Feeling a lot more than other INFJs would, while I admire his Ni and try to understand when he just "feels" something is not okay, even though it can be difficult.

I recently got out of a relationship with an INTP. It was pretty bad. He really did not emote at all. It felt like I was the only one putting in any effort in the relationship. I tried so hard to help him out of his funks, his depressions. I supported him hardcore. I felt I was in so much love with him... to just no avail. When MY life got bad, when my life went to hell, he distanced so much... he eventually said this isn't working. The reason I know he's INTP (maybe, probably) is I was curious and asked him to take a silly personality test online. He thought it was stupid, but he did it for me (one of the only things he ever did for me haha). But yeah, learning about INTPs, it made sense about why he wasn't like me or why he wasn't emoting to me. They called INTP/INFJs the "Golden Couple," which didn't make sense. I think there is definitely more to it than just your "type" such as disorders and just self-esteem problems. I think an INFJ/INFJ personality could be great, tbh, if they feel like I do about love and relationships. I guess I'm still looking for my sort of double, someone who can be empathetic enough to understand what I'm going through and I will do the same. Someone who maybe doesn't like going out constantly because I do enjoy being inside (though I do love a good concert). It's kind of a shame INFJ is the "rarest" in that sense, but I'm definitely not limiting myself to that. I just feel like in every relationship I love harder than they love me, and that may very well be a flaw in my own mental properties, but I just want to feel that. I want to feel how I make other people feel when I love. (wow, that sounds... gross). And YES, the dark side. I opened my soul and was rejected... and it SUCKS, Frank. It sucks when you tell someone your most intimate, horrible secrets and they throw you away. It's so hard. I'm an open book for the most part, but when I share my horror with someone and they later on throw me away as if I was nothing, it is terrible. I still want people to know me, though, because being accepted at your darkest is true acceptance in my eyes. Frank, I knew you were living in my head. It's cool.

I'm so sorry...The trauma of being rejected when you've trusted someone enough to reveal your 'true' self is terrible. I can relate, sadly, and can only send you my sympathy, understanding and a hug (for what it's worth.) It's interesting that the one INTP I know is deeply kind, empathetic, sensitive and emotionally astute. He's definitely an INTP, though! We tend to enhance each other's understanding of things, especially emotionally, but I'd say that he's an exceptionally nice person who has worked hard to develop himself. I'm also quite a calm, logical INFJ, so we meet in the middle. I guess that knowing the traits of a type can help illuminate our understanding of their behaviour yet everyone is so different... I hope that you find your INFJ (or someone you can feel safe with.)

Thank you, Georgina! I do understand there are great variations even within a certain type, but the thinking aspect dominated over the emotional for sure in my case. It almost makes me feel like maybe something is inherently wrong with me, you know, that I love so much and try so hard to show my love, yet do not have that reciprocated. I'm still trying to find out exactly what it is, why it is, other than different personality types.

thatASMRchick I don't believe that there is anything wrong with you! I think maybe as we're wired to be so sensitive we are also more prone to being hurt, which is so difficult to handle. Being so sensitive is an absolute gift, though, so I'm not sure that I'd give it up for a thicker skin... If I summarised my emotional state/situation for you right now you'd probably be horrified! I'm withdrawing like crazy as I feel everything around me has descended into chaos. I truly relate to the feeling of loving too much/being too open/being too sincere and the deep injury that can cause when things go wrong. I feel that a relationship is the thing that matters to me most in life yet right now I just want to be by myself and recover my sense of self/self-protect. (This is the one place that I'm still open to communicating!) It's the most fragile I've ever felt but there's still a tiny part of me that believes things might work out. I *need* to be so close to another person that I allow myself to feel vulnerable/open (otherwise I don't feel fully myself or 'authentic') but I'm also very scared to even try that again. Yes - it's an immense comfort to find people who are wired in the same way. It's a beautiful community of people here :-)

My wife is the ISFJ, I’m the INFJ... married 10 years now with 3 kids. It really is a soul mate type relationship. We are both genuinely comfortable just being with one another in total silence a lot of the time. But when we do talk it’s either very profound, or very very humorous, but when we do but heads (very rarely) it is the most stubborn, intense and silent rage. We are two personality types that love to please people, and that alway means pleasing one another in our relationship. But I do believe for this type of relationship to work well together, the couple must share the same core values... otherwise I think it could truly be a match made in hell as both people would be so firmly rooted in their inner beliefs that they just couldn’t get along, and would silently hate one another.

Interesting lol. I'm an INFJ and my mom is an ISFJ. These types can totally get along. I know how to work around her and she nags me to do what I need to do when I lose track of time or something haha. My sensing is developed well enough that I got 58% intuition & 42% observation on muerbriggs. I would say it is part of what really helped to keep myself balanced when I was depressed bc apart from my Ni, I probably have good enough Si to take hold of myself and snap out of doing nothing eventually.

My issue with INFJ/INFJ relationships I’ve been in is that bc the mirroring was so intense any differences would be treated as threats, and conflicts were excruciating. Feeling like someone gets me is very precious but part of love from my pov is being delighted over someone else’s differences, the ways they aren’t you. Conflicts were avoided bc when they happened we’d empathize so intensely it’d be this echo chamber effect (I couldn’t feel hurt without immediately feeling him or her being hurt that I was hurt). This is a problem for me generally but with other INFJs it would be so much worse. Usually this ends with withdrawing from one another, which is not what I’m looking for in a relationship. Honestly now that I’m older and have more stuff going on I just want a partner who is supportive (emotionally) and who I can support without bending myself out of shape. Mystical transcendent love moments are great but you can’t live in them all the time.

The thing about the INFJ/ENFP relationship is that ENFP's are known to be the most introverted of the extraverts (just as INFJ's are the most extaverted of the introverts), they will probably not drain you as much as other Exxx types. They tend to be a lot more sensitive to the introverted person's need for downtime. Their different functions seem to cover a lot of each other's blind spots. I think you're right that in the end, type really doesn't and shouldn't matter when choosing a partner, but it really is obvious that certain matches just seem more effortless and natural than others. All good relationships take a lot of work and communication, but I think some types are just naturally more attracted to others. I think it also depends on your age and maturity. The more developed people are with their inferior functions, the more they will be able to handle and enjoy and thrive in a relationship with a traditionally clashing type.

Thanks for saying that ENFPs are the most introverted of the extroverts. There can be varying levels of that. I think people forget that. We can be the life of the party, but I don't actually like parties. I prefer being with someone one on one or being on my own. I enjoy simple pleasures with a friend or partner. Going out to breakfast is one of my favorites. I am more of a homebody. Though I do like trying new things sometimes. I think I have enough of a gregarious, high energy side to keep things interesting without being overwhelming.

I completely agree that it's not personality types that bond two people, but other factors. I love his emotional steadiness, and his extroversion has brought me out of my shell. It's helpful to understand the differences in our personalities so when issues do come up in our relationship, we can better understand where the other person is coming from. I think a lot of people mistake an initial feeling of “vibing” with a person for a true connection. You might be able to relate to someone at first, but that doesn’t mean there’s a soul connection. A soul connection takes time. Also I agree with what you said. Type doesn’t matter that much... any type can work with any type. But just knowing each other’s type and understanding the functions is helpful in learning how to communicate with each other and knowing where the weak spots are.

I couldn’t see why they would buy into some of the things they did, and they let me down by not having as much endurance as I did when life was rough. I realized a lot about myself through them - and that even with another INFJ there is no true alignment of values and goals/visions.

Recovering Soul...I think what attracts me more has nothing to do with " social actions" like extraverts like getting into..it has more to do with "life experimentation"...for instance if an extravert is just a huge party animal with no other hobby..it is kinda pointless to me...while an introvert with a huge creativity...who travels a lots..who improves his practical knowledge (like myself : learning many languages for instance)...will definitely win my heart. But yes it's lot of different factors. At the end individuals are unique.

I’ve never seen an INFJ who would actually make a generalization like that about extroverts being superficial and all that. That’s dumb as hell lol. As an ENFP, I don’t choose to get my energy from social interaction, that’s just how I am. That doesn’t mean I don’t value people though, as there are only like 3 or 4 people I consider true life long friends, or family. And not every extrovert has many options in dating, sadly... once every few years I might have one option.. plus not all extroverts are charming and can put you at ease- like have you met an estj lol.

I agree. I don't think anyone should go on an MBTI relationship hunt nor an astrological relationship hunt. It would be very contrived and forced. I do think it's interesting to discuss research our friends and relationship interests types or signs at some point. It has given me an understanding of the reasons that I am drawn to certain people. Personality traits and qualities in others that mesh well, I have discovered, quite often have common types and signs. I don't knowingly seek these people out, it just seems to happen that way at times.

Brandon Johnson in case you didn't catch what I said, that was it. That is the exact reason i learn about the types and signs of others, to understand them and the patterns I have seen in all kinds of relationships to see if there is a common thread. I do this with all relationships-- family and friends as well. Types don't "dictate" my attraction, but i have noticed that certain types do attract me more, and some are more deterrent. I think our intuition, intelligence and common sense are both good tools for gauging personality clashes/meshes.

I was with an ENTP for 16 years but only married for 2 of those years. The relationship ended because ultimately we had communication trouble. I always thought he was yelling at me and he was a facts man more than a feeling man. We knew nothing of types then. After our daughter had a suicide attempt, we started really having to find a deeper way to communicate for the health of our daughter. We all learned our types. I'm INFJ, he is ENTP, and our daughter is ISFP. As parents, we have had to tailor our communication styles to get her to open up. In all of this, he and I were able to understand why our relationship failed. I don't think the personality type does matter for a relationship, but it is paramount for communication.

My parents are INFJ (mom) ENTP (dad) and it's poison. I've known of a couple INFJ/ENTP couples and they're also terrible relationships. As an INFJ, I understand the appeal, but nope.

I’m an INFJ in an amazing relationship with an ENJF. My best relationships have always been with extroverts. We compliment each other well. But I totally agree that you shouldn’t limit yourself to a set of personality types. Some individuals have astounding character and life experiences that can easily create compatibility.

I'm INFJ and my husband is ESFP. Thank god we have the F in common, because there are a lot of clashes let me tell you. But I kinda like how he keeps things surface-level sometimes, because we INFJs can get lost in our thoughts a lot and it can get tiring.

I am an INFJ married to an ISTJ. There is so much out there that says our match is the worst of all matches. First of all, like you said, I think it comes down to whether or not you are health/unhealthy. Secondly, your type doesn't necessarily describe your values. When I was reading about INFJ/INFP friendships, I read that a lot of times this pair ends up in a friendship but it can go terribly sour if you realize your values don't match up which can go unnoticed for a long time because you think so similarly. But neither are willing to budge on their values. I think that applies to all pairs, friendship or romantically. Thirdly, my ISTJ husband and I share a lot of common interests and we bring very different perspectives to our discussions. I think not only do we balance each other out, we have the same values and the same goals that we are working towards in life. Lastly, i have a cousin who is an ENFP and I can't imagine ever dating someone like her. She has given me a hard time for not being social enough and I have judge her for her socializing with anyone for the sake of doing so. We get along, have good conversations, understand things similarly, but I think its an e vs i thing - they are way too insecure, and I don't trust fleeting attention.

Lauren Brothers Hello friend! I’m also an INFJ who is with an ISTJ. We aren’t married but we’ve been together just over 10 years. I completely agree with everything in your comment and it’s nice to see another person who loves an ISTJ because, from what I’ve seen, they are WILDLY mis-understood/represented in an extremely negative way, here on the net. They’re not all robots with ice in their veins. Mine is the most loyal, dependable, caring person I know. However, like Frank said, it takes a lot of patience and understanding, to get to know them deeply. That’s not their fault and they really can’t help it. What we all need MBTI for, is to learn HOW to communicate with other types. Learning about MBTI reeeeally helped my partner and I, to the point that I’m not sure we would even still be together AND happier than ever, had we not found it.

I am also an INFJ dating an ISTJ! Everything you two are saying is what I also wanted to comment. He definitely isn't a shower of emotion, but what he does for me and our family is his way of showing how much he cares. When I first found out our types I did get a little frightened from the fact that everywhere basically says we aren't compatible. But our relationship is so strong, we communicate so well and he helps keep me grounded when I'm too high in the clouds. Not too mention I help pull him out of his box when he needs it. :)

same same same! this article I think sums up our pair quite accurately - long as we are healthy, share values, interests, and work towards common goals: www.psychologyjunkie.com/2018/04/27/when-opposites-attract-the-infj-and-istj-relationship/ I wanted to share this with you guys because reading this made me feel more assured about our match!

This is so gorgeous! You showed up in all your glory..so authentic and vulnerable..really touching. This is the first time I saw how I relate too hard to another INFJ though and see it would probably be way intense. Good point with the blind spots too!
