Clearly millennials r self conscious and insecure too, could u not tell from the video? Every generation is insecure. Its bc of the world we live in unfortunately. Making it about how millennials r being cringe is how its framed here and other vids (and it is cringe) but thats truthfully not the real issue. The real issue is we all care about how we look to a degree thats probably not healthy. Making it into a generational war isnt really gonna help anything bc the way things r going gen z will probably go through the same emotions when they're old too. But I get this isn't a serious video. Sorry for the long response u didn't ask for lol

@@sixfeetundertheradar6080Sorry, I know no one cares but as a Classicist I have to infodump: the reason Athenians like Socrates were so anti-luxury is because it was synonymous with Persia - Athenians (and all Greeks) were supposed to be masculine, disciplined, and untroubled by things like vanity or fine-living (which tied into the Athenian view of the Greek landscape as inhospitable and tough), whereas they characterised the Persians as effeminate, soft and overly concerned with luxury (which tied into the Athenian view of Persia as fertile and arable). So Socrates, writing after the Persian and Peloponnesian Wars, after the fall of people like Alcibiades who were considered vain, corrupted youth, and after the decline of Athens in general, had naturally come to equate luxury with everything bad and destructive. Little history lesson ❤️

I feel like each generation keeps getting better and I'm looking forward to more of them becoming parents and breaking generational curses/trauma, and raising a generation that is even better than them. When i was 16 I didnt give a crap about social issues, yet Gen Z was putting together protests when they were teens. Theyre also the first generation to be raised on technology and social media to this extent, so i think we need to cut them (and the new generations) a lot of slack. We were lucky enough that the stupid things we did as kids/teens werent recorded so we can pretend we werent as "dumb" as kids.. but yall i did the cinnamon challenge 5 times. I think the reason a lot of millennials think they look younger is because they dress "younger". If you look at footage of highschoolers from the 80s they will look older because they are dressing in ways we associate with the older people around us now. Most millennials look their age, that's fine. Just like the typical hairstyle of older ladies was just the hair that was popular in the 50s and 60s when they were younger. So if you look at pictures of 19 year olds from the 50s they look older. So for millennials they don't look like the older people that were around them when they were young. Different generations look different when they get older. Also its a little embarrassing to be so obsessed with the idea of youth? I can't wait to be a cool grandma with grey hair. Why do we have to be so obsessed with looker younger than we are? It's kind of cringe.

I'm 37 and I don't even have kids but I think it's so strange that people my age are "picking on" the younger generation.. but especially for these reasons 😂 how embarrassing for them! They've gotten so old they forgot how much we hated being compared to gen x and boomers. The looking young thing totally depends on the person too, sometimes I see people my age and I think they're late 40s lol people usually think I'm around 30 but in general there's no certain look for any specific age, and most people look "around" the exact age they are.

I've watched a few docs and read some stuff about this (not the tik toks but the general phenomenon). It's a mixture of a few things. One is perception (we think 20 years old in the 1950s look older because the style is old to us. But if you get an AI to switch them to modern clothing, they look 20.) Another is the rise in popularity of fillers, plastic surgery, Ozempic, etc. in the world of influncers. Millennials, despite a lot of us being broke, didn't grow up with so much emphasis on different types of plastic surgery. The main thing Millennials had was Botox. Eventually, gravity takes hold as you age. It will pull the fillers and implants down, giving an older appearance. Again, this is mostly influncers, but they're in our face all the time in a way like never before. There were also huge social, environmental, and political shifts between the generations that caused differences in our perception. There's a bunch more but I'm not going to write anymore. Interesting topic to reserch.

It's basically just genetics, this "gen blabla looks older/younger" is just stupid and based on specific people. For example, my whole family looks younger than their age. My grandma is 80 and people mistake her for being 60. My mom is nearly 60 and people mistake her for being in her 40s. I am turning 23 in a couple of weeks and I had a few people mistake me for being 16/17. Self care also has a part in it, but its mostly visible in long term, when you are older.

Where this gets me in this is that everyone is saying 18 year olds look old and then are surprised that gen A is obsessed with looks and how they want to look younger than thirteen- like obviously if your parent is going on the internet being like "haha 20 ugly old" kids are gonna see that and be scared of aging to 17- and I think that this is the actual harm happening from this "trend"

  • @msjkramey

Wow! That's so stupidly obvious... how did I not make that connection before? I just figured it was them having products pushed on them 24/7 by influencers. It's probably a mix. Part of me wishes that I had started skin care more when I was younger though. My skin isn't old looking or anything, but it's a lot easier to prevent than reverse that kind of thing. Plus, I'm all for young people wearing sunscreen because that helps prevent cancer! I don't care at all if they're doing it for the "wrong" reasons if it's still preventing people from getting sick

  • @hellolittlefella

PREACH OMG. Didn't even make this connection, but that makes ALL the sense. These poor kids are already doing their best with a generation war, and they aren't even out of school yet like that's depressing af.... I just can't stand the fact that every time we create this generational war between generations... AS IF ITS NOT GROWN ADULTS BULLYING CHILDREN AND YOUNG ADULTS. What sort of bullshit system is this like what happened to "you guys are the face of our future" and when did it turn to "you guys are ugly af and look old, stressed, and traumatized." Maybe we just all went through a pandemic and lost the years of our lives that Y'ALL got to fucking live outside of your houses for? Like this is ridiculous at this point. Millennial need to grow up and focus on their lives and living paycheck to paycheck, and Gen Z needs to put their noses back into their own business and focus on how we're gonna move out of our parents houses without falling into crippling debt.

@@msjkrameyThe only things you need are sunscreen and retin A (a very mild one. The only thing proven to keep skin firm, control acne, fade scaring). I’m Gen X and we didn’t have sunscreen until I was in my teens. I used it everyday starting then, mostly because I hated my freckles! The anti-aging and skin care products were pushed but I couldn’t afford them until my late 20’s. But I never noticed a difference long term. Now days especially with social media I really feel for how hard it’s pushed on people. Influencers with their skin filters telling you they use 15 products (because they’re paid to). People showing off their closets of skin care that are all expired and the “clinically proven” are studies done by the same company that makes them. At 28 I had a really bad car accident that just destroyed my life but took its time doing it. I’ve had major depressive disorder and chronic pain for 25 years. As far as skincare it was moisturizer and sunscreen. With that kind of stress I should be a wrinkled mess. I don’t have any and I’m 53 now. I’d probably look better had I been better working the Retinol in. And too much of that can really burn your face. I got mine from the doctor and it’s safe for daily use. Im telling you so much you don’t need, but if it makes you feel good, use it. But sunscreen…trust me I look so different from my friends not because I’m better, I just didn’t want more freckles! And please don’t believe 30 is old. We live about 85 years, my mom is 70 and is super fit and has a great life. I looked my best in my 30’s. I hate that society has pushed this on women for so long. At that point you’ve only lived one decade as an adult! Social media has made things much harder. But I’ll stop now! 🩷

Ok but that first millennial looks 25 to me. And my 25 year old Gen Z looks 25 to me. And everyone younger than me either looks 14 or 25. Because I’m a GenX and I can’t accurately age people anymore. All I know is that the silent generation and elder boomers are still running the government and gave “personhood” to the corporations who are keeping us all down. Then they’re telling us to blame each other.

I think we’re all scared and don’t know how to channel that fear, so smaller things like generational drama seems so much easier to deal with and defend.

I don't have the energy or time to worry about who looks older and why. People age at different rates. IT's how its always been and always will be. Being a good person is what matters.

I’m a young millennial. Like, on the cusp but I always hung out w/ ppl 3-5 years older & it’s so annoying to see all of my friends act like boomers towards Gen Z! I will say that Gen Z does look older. But I don’t think they look older than millennials. I think it’s just bc they don’t have that “tween” stage anymore. So I feel like they mature faster & they dress more mature & they start wearing makeup & adult clothes at a younger age. Whereas we had that embarrassing “tween” stage so yo could tell the difference between a tween, teen & adult. I’ve seen 15 year olds look 20+ & it’s not bc they’re aging faster. But they’re just dressing more mature. I have seen a ton of millennials that do look very good for their age. For sure. But like…. I don’t think it’s this general thing that’s happening. But my fellow millennials are just sad about aging & their coping. I’m sad I’m getting older. Aging sucks! But I’m not about to start adding more BS to Gen Zers lives when they’ve not only had their formative years stolen & have been told their entire lives that they’re going to watch the world end & all of the same shit millennials grew up w/… so I hate this “us vs them” bs… we are already so fucken divided in so many ways.. can we maybe not add another layer of division to the mix? Especially when ITS RIDICULOUS!

The girl who responded I guessed was 20-25 and was right. He is so delusional to think she looks like a millennial, because she absolutely does not 😂😂. She looks exactly her age and he looks exactly twice it. That's why his condescending "it's okay to look older than your age is so triggering 😒😒😒.

I don't remember saying anyone ages like milk, but I'm constantly being called an old hag, "damaged goods" and having my 2 year old being accused of being an "ipad child" when we can't even afford one. oh and I guess my 2 year old daughter should be reading?? liike do people realize my generation is mostly childfree? how can we be blamed for gen alpha when most of our kids aren't even preschool age yet?

Millennials look young because of styling across the board. We’re not getting perms, wearing clothes and glasses like they did in the 80’s and 90’s. Ok, some of the Hollywood examples maybe are just going to look old anyway. But across the board, look at the generation like in old footage, just everyday people, high school and college students.
