Overrated? The internet has relentlessly shat on this movie since before and after it came out, praying on it's downfall. I'd say the fact it's a moderate success makes it underrated.

i get from an outside point of view embers internal conflict might seem unnecessary, dramatic and dumb, but it’s so accurate to the wrenching guilt many of us with immigrant parents feel when choosing to pursue our true selves when we know our parent gave up everything for us but and have strict ideas of how’s our lives should play out. it feel like throwing away their sacrifice. the consequences are often being shunned, and we understand that’s toxic and abusive, but we can’t help that our parent grew up in a toxic and abusive environment and that conditioned them. it’s especially awful when parents are racist or homophobic, and would disagree with the person you choose to love. it doesn’t help that children of immigrants feel more dependant on parents, since parents have far bigger priorities in terms of providing rather than socialising their kids with others and broadening their circle. as well as that immigrant communities are often tight but and monoculturalistic (if that’s a word) and being rejected by parents means being rejected by your entire community. hope this provides insight to yall who haven’t been in embers shoes to get where she’s coming from with her extreme reluctance. sorry for the ramble i had thoughts that needed to get out 😅

Always dig your reactions, especially to animated movies. I'd like to note that 'Elemental' is essentially director Peter Sohn's sorta-kinda autobiography, as he is the son of two Korean immigrants, and the movie is based on his experiences growing up in NY in the '80s. I found it to be pretty solid, myself, if a little uneven and paced rather clumsily... I'll also point out, that Disney 100th logo first showed up last fall before 'Strange World'!

To go from one of the worst performing Pixar movies, to the highest grossing Disney animated movie since 2019 is quite a miracle, and a deserved one at that. I'm glad it's not a total loss, as the film itself is actually pretty good. The animation on the fire, water, and air people is amazing and pretty revolutionary, the powers and abilities they have are very creative, I love how they created an entire original language for the fire people, the music is awesome, and I like the arc Ember goes through.

Fun fact: The reason Ember and Wade were able to touch without killing each other was because of a scientific phenomenon known as the Leidenfrost effect which is when something really hot like Ember touches water like Wade and it creates a layer of steam like the one you see when they first touch which acts as an insulator for Wade, preventing him from vaporizing, and by extension, Ember from getting extinguished. How did Wade survive at the end? Well, for that you can thank our good old friend the water cycle. He EVAPORATED into the chimney, CONDENSED onto the rocks blocking the chimney and was PRECIPITATED by Ember making him cry.

This had one of the best comebacks at the box office in recent years. Dare I say, even more impressive than Puss in Boots 2's comeback. The film started out with an awful $29.6 million domestically, the worst opening in Pixar history, but then it continued to hold on strong in the subsequent weekends after the first frame, despite summer competition. The film will soon close with $153 million domestically and $480.2 million worldwide (potentially close to $500 million), almost breaking even. Gives me lots of hope for Pixar's future if Elio and Inside Out 2 are great and hit it big at the box office.

Personally, I think it was a fun movie, and honestly I think it is sort of a fresh movie. Zootopia which it gets compared to alot, although may have similarities, does not cover immigration. Also this movie was marketed as the romance genre, so I'm not sure why you said not everything has to be romantic. It's also piper's first romcom, so i dont see how its just using the same ideas again. Will still continue to watch your reactions though, just wanted to share my thoughts.

Girl, I'm sorry because you seem open to pretty much everything you watch, but why does it seem like you were being prejudiced throughout this entire movie? You literally never stopped trying to find the needle in the haystack, even when concept were really simple to understand, instead of just watching. Especially when you said "why would they move here when they keep being treated like shit?" as if America wasn't full of immigrants trying to find better opportunities and as if they have never been mistreated because of their origins instead. I understand being critical, but between critical and cynical there's a fine line. I'm not saying this is the best movie ever made, but it surely wasn't a bad watch and it was meaningful. I hope I don't sound rude, because I've watched a lot of your reactions and loved them, but it really seemed like that since the beginning.

My understanding is that they didn't build a neighborhood specially for the fire people, they just gave them an older, unused part of the city. That's why it starts out dilapidated, and why it has water pipers - presumably it was used by the other elementals, then they abandoned it, and the fire people moved in.

Also Element City is supposed to represent America, with the first place Ember's parents went to symbolizing Ellis Island where Immigrants went to become citizens. To me it's very similar to the many Asian immigrants stories I've read and listened to, especially with Japan and their culture, mainly for to the "never disgrace the family name", though obviously with them being elements it's something more than just one race of immigrants can feel represented by.

@@BOFAMET I went through that phase as a teen, but I also tried being a "not like other girls" during that time too. Now I'm older not only that changed, but I noticed since getting into a relationship I've connected to certain stuff I never really had before (especially cheesy stuff). Think just growing and having different experiences opens people up and just realized how comforting certain cheesy or clichés stuff. :)

@@TabbyWithMittens Exactly! I used to hate the romance genre (and it's still not really my thing) but after growing up and having my own romantic experiences and now being married, the stuff I used to think was "cheesy" or "cliche" is actually pretty cute to me lol. My husband is a hopeless romantic so I learned to love the cheesiness.

I think it was good and I was scared at first the Romeo and Juliet trope would be over used but it was quite cute. Not very creative in the story line. In the same line I prefer Zootopia. I like Wade but him and the fire girl are not enough in-depth developed, I don’t know how to explain, they’re quite forgetable compared to other animated movie from the franchise (and others). The visuals are really beautiful and well made but… Voilà… nothing more for me.

I prefer the relation between the water girl and the fire boy in the Children of the rain movie. It's quick BUT both worked together to stop a war and save their kingdom. It's more interresting than a girl who is not understood by her father and a guy who always cry. Yes Amber saved her city and parents, it was nice to see but there was the fake death cliché which ruins a dramatic scene. I was not happy to see it ☹There's no annoying kid who flirts with the heroine in the other movie like Claud or family issues similar to Miguel in Coco either. The story is entirely original, the music is superb and the romance is cute.

In my opinion alone. Ember and Wade are just perfect for each other in so many ways imaginable. Their love is just so powerful throughout this entire movie, when they hold hands and kiss, my heart literally melted. I was just in complete awe. One of the greatest couples I’ve seen, definitely one of my top favourites. Well done, Pixar! 100/10!!! ❤🔥💧❤ We need a sequel with them having a steam baby possibly, that would be amazing. Just showing how much more powerful Ember’s and Wade’s love for each other has become.

Elemental 2 Prequel Series Is In Development Be ready because Disney is bringing us a whole new adventure of Ember and Wade in a brand new Elemental 2 Prequel series. Yes we are not messing around because there are some solid news regarding a spin off TV show of Pixar’s Elemental. Despite being the lowest original movie of Pixar on Rotten Tomatoes, Elemental became the highest grossing original animated movie for Disney and Pixar since 2019. Also the movie was a bit underrated because it has almost everything that we want to watch in a perfect Disney-Pixar movie. But finally, there are some official reports which are already indicating towards a sequel show for this beautiful movie. According to some of the well known websites like The Direct, Collider and The Disinsider, Disney and Pixar are now moving towards a spin off TV show for Elemental. According to the reports, Pixar will be bringing back Ember and Wade in a new sequel series where we will get a chance to watch their next adventure. Elemental writer Kat Likkel has officially given a hint by saying that a spin-off may revolve around Ember and Wade’s cross-country journey, or it can even end up showing their path to marriage. The writer has also confirmed that Elemental spin-off can also focus on other characters in Element City to give a new aspect of the movie, just like Zootopia+. But in short, the writers has confirmed that both a sequel series and a proper full length sequel is in development. As of now, there are no solid updates regarding the exact release date because neither Disney nor Pixar has made any official statement on this spinoff TV Show. But it is just a matter of time before they make one. However, we can expect it to land by the end of 2024. If the studio is really developing this TV Show then it should get release within two years from now as the characters are already well animated. All they have to do is to bring some new characters to life in order to make a perfect story. But there are several factors which might delay it as well. It mainly includes the process of script writing and voice acting. That’s because the ongoing writer’s and actor’s strike is affecting almost everything in the Hollywood. Studios are facing a lot of challenges regarding their filming and productions, along with their promotions. Elemental was already an underrated project, so Disney and Pixar will try to focus on the special marketing and promotion of it’s spinoff. But they can’t do it in the current scenario. The film, in general, is cute, but I also found it very boring. It's not really an original film or one that takes you by surprise, and I wasn't able to connect with the characters because they sounded very generic, most of the time they just seemed to have one personality [angry girl, emotional boy]

I'm glad the movie managed to find its audience and proved everyone wrong that it wasn't a flop. But I do understand peoples hesitation with it. The advertising did not do this film a ton of favors. I honestly thought it looked like a Kirkland brand Zootopia. Just with elements instead of animals, but it actually is different than Zootopia story and style wise.
