I started carnivore just over 2 weeks ago and give them the left over bits, my little tortie girl was struggling to keep weight on (they're turning 12 this year) and she's looking a bit healthier with the fat that I've been giving her.

I adopted an obese 24 lb cat with a slew of health issues - rotting teeth, oily skin & ears, etc. He couldn’t stand up on both hind legs & could barely run. Put him on a wet carnivore diet, & he lost 1/2 his body weight, his skin & ear issues cleared up, he could stand up on his hind legs & run, & after sadly having to extract two of his teeth, his remaining gum issues resolved. Cats. Eat. Meat!

I'm rather puzzled why you use hyperbole just to say the cat had two teeth extracted...."...after SADLY..." regarding the extraction. Obviously it was of a health benefit to the animal, and saved its life, so why is it "SAD"? Your misuse of one word makes it sound as if the animal went through torture in order to now be healthy, when in fact it did not, its torture was from its previous owner.

There is a book called "The BARF Diet". It's about the biologically appropriate raw food diet for cats and dogs if anyone is interested in looking it up. Not sponsored. I'm a veterinary nurse and have been talking to people about raw food diets for pets for years. More dog owners are interested than cat owners though. Working in ER we saw a cat that the owner put on a vegan diet 😢. Poor thing almost died from malnurishment. Please feed cats a proper cat diet.

Animals will eat the veggies because it's what's given to them, not because they particularly like it or it's good for them. Dogs can have some vegetables, but there are human foods that are toxic and even deadly to animals. Best to stick to a species appropriate diet.

Feed my dogs raw meat for decades. Changing diet my cause poop issues until they get used to new diet. There are some pumpkin supplements that will calm their stomach. No cooked bones. Raw chicken with bone and beef liver for snacks and vitamins/minerals. Mainly lean beef, but USDA pork that has been deep froze for at least a month, should be safe. As they get very old, you may want to cook and add supplements purely for better poops. Dogs have anal glands that require a firm poop to express. Runny poop for weeks can cause serious injury from ruptured glands.

My old cat who is no longer alive only tolerated raw meat pet food (without plants). When she was a kitten I started feeding her canned wet food but, it gave her an upset stomach. Then I started buying organic dry food. Eventually that gave her watery diarrhea too. Every brand of dry food eventually caused the same reaction. Then someone suggested raw pet food. For awhile that got rid of the symptom but, then it started again. The last thing I tried was plant free raw beef and she never had bad digestion again. Initially she didn't tolerate other types of meat but, eventually her gut was healed enough that she could eat lamb, pork or chicken raw. She even healed enough tolerate a little bit of cooked meat which she thought was a treat. If we didn't watch our plates, she'd be tempted to grab a bite. Her absolute favourite thing was raw beef liver. The smell got her so excited. Another great side effect of putting her on a raw meat diet was that she became playful as a senior and she wasn't playful before. I think plant foods damaged her gut.

There are two things you can't miss if you want to give your cat a raw diet: Calcium and Taurine The amount of calcium in muscle meat is insufficient for cats and they also don't produce Taurine like humans and dogs do, so you have to give them bones and heart, around 5%~10% of each in weight relative to the amount of muscle meat. Some cats will easily eat small chicken bones, but for most you will have to grind it into a paste with small pieces in a blender first. And NEVER cook your cat's food because it destroys essential nutrients that they can't live without.

  • @jennifermarlow.

My cat had fresh organic chicken thighs, ground up with heart & liver (all chicken), added calcium and some olive oil (the right kind of calcium, and you can also add taurine supplement, it's very inexpensive). Froze it in the 6 oz. mason jars, and one per day. She never used her water dish, because I would mix it with a bit of warm water before feeding. Cats don't drink a lot of water when they have fresh meat vs. kibble. Sprinkled some fish flakes on top to entice. The vet was truly astonished at her muscle tone and glossy, thick coat, after her annual checkup, age 2, when I put her on raw. Making the food took about an hour/month, including grinding up the chicken thighs by hand. Easy-peasy. And it cost me less than the junk food!

I had seen the amount of water he was drinking close to a liter a day. I thought to myself this cat is diabetic. Só I stopped the cat food and started it is the proper cat's diet ( ground beef, sausages, egg - it eats one a day and clames for it -, chicken and sardines, . It was arrond a month ago, now it a new cat I'd say at list 4 years younger, he's jumping on tables seeking food - quite annoying - it came back laying besides me , it is sleeping in the sun again, and its fur has never been so softer. After that i put my others 4 cats in the same diet , amazing results they are even closer and cuddlier . The dog currently is eating Salmon's head that i get for almost nothing in the fish market before it was eating, chicken's neck, pig's feet , ear, and pigs organs. But the fish's head is way cheaper In both cases I'm spending less money than in kibble, and i wasn't buying the crazy expensive ones, like the best of the rest, but it should have been good. • @MelzCarnivoreJourney

    @MelzCarnivoreJourney

    Ай бұрын

Technically, a hyper carnivore is 70% meat (fat & protein) and 30% other foods (carbs/plants). Though cats can survive eating 30% carbs (as in it doesn't kill them instantly), they are more likely to get crystals in their urine and kidneys and die much younger than they are supposed to. Cats do better at 97% raw meat and only 3% anything else. Also, they do need fat because they need fat soluble vitamins like E, K, and D. Fat doesn't make cats (or dogs) fat. That's why my 3 cats and 3 dogs get the fat that comes in the skin/meat because they don't eat carbs, so they need energy to come from somewhere. Due to dogs following humans for a longer (evolutionary) period of time, they have developed slightly more of a tolerance to carbs, but 30% is still too much. I have a coydog, and she did horrible on Kibble she would eat enough to not die. Since she has been put on a carnivore diet, she's a normal weight and eats every day. Has more energy, etc. My regular dogs weight and health also optimized on carnivore. The term "obligate carnivore" means an animal that eats more than 70% meat. A hyper carnivore is an animal that eats up to 70% meat. Faciltative carnivore means that the animal does best on primarily meat but can eat other stuff just to stay alive until they can get more meat. A cats optimal diet is not a hyper carnivore diet. If anything, their optimal diet is a faciltative carnivore diet.

It’s obviously safe to feed a cat raw meat as long as it’s not spoiled. However, they also need the rest of the animal for a total diet. It’s not a debate like it is for humans where “maybe you need some liver but mostly you can just eat ribeye.” Cats and other true carnivores seriously need bones, marrow, skin, organs, connective tissue, etc., otherwise they will have nutrition deficiencies.

That said, though my cats have had a majority diet of boneless skinless chicken and occasional gound beef, they sometimes self supplement their diet by eating flies, birds, baby rabbits, and mice among other things. 40+ years of many generations of cats is what i base my view on.

I started feeling my cat just meat, after she was diagnosed with hyperthyroidism. That was because of feeding her BlueBuffalo dry kibble. She lived to be 19 years old because of the switch I made to feeding her just meat. It’s been almost a year since she’s passed. I Miss her every day. I feed my 2 small dogs meat and mix in some low carb veggies like cauliflower, broccoli, brussel sprouts. They get occasional salmon, sardines, cod. Their fur is beautiful and they don’t seem to have that “doggie” smell anymore.

My parents had a ginger tom cat and they only fed him kibble and cand pet food, after I got home from work one day my mum told me to take the cat to the vet, next day the vet said your cat has kidney stones and one of them blocked his bladder and had to operate to remove them. The vet informed my mum and me to feed the cat fish, chicken gibblets, lamb fry etc they can't digest plant food. My ex has a dog at the moment and she was feeding the dog tined crap and kibble I did try to explain to her that she is going to shorten the dog's life on that diet she discovered how expensive the vet bill was after the dog became morbidly obese and developed cancer in the stomach and cysts on her front leg my ex finally put the dog onto carnivore and the dog is doing 100% better now... the ex is still in denial about her own diet though (still eats way too many prosesd carbs)

The leftovers will dry and almost turn to jerky after a few hours. They will sometimes still eat it but prefer the fresh leftovers from the frig. I routinely eat beef and pork that is pretty close to raw and never have any issues. The following generations had bad teeth, trouble with childbirth and skeletal and health issues. When they were again fed raw meat they got healthy again but pure health took a couple of generations to return. The study was called Pottinger's Study. You can look it up online.

She come and go whenever she wanted and caught quite a few mice and the occasional bird, she did not put on weight and stayed active yet still she was a picky eater during the day. Now my mom had a medical issue and wasn´t home for months, so it fell to me and a frind of mom to feed her cat. Now i have a job and could only check in the morning and evening, the friend checked in around noon. So kitty got three servings, about the same amount mom served before. Guess what - whenever we were there, the plate was licked clean, no matter which flavour we served! Cats are only picky when they can actually get what they want (from their servants - us!).

I know that if you make cat food you must add all the essential nutrients to it. This means adding the right amount of vitamins and minerals and calcium. I have a friend who makes it and it's quite the process . You need a meat grinder too. If you are just supplementing raw meat as a snack then you don't have to worry about the rest. I get raw ground chicken from a local meat company and use it as a snack. If meat is the primary component of the diet, there is not enough calcium in meat alone. Therefore, bone or ground bone is necessary to provide a proper calcium-to-phosphorus ratio.

I'm not a vet (or MD), but have always been told if you solely give your cat a home made diet (raw or not), that you must supplement with taurine since cats are unable to synthesize this amino acid and naturally get it from specific sources that may not be present in a home made diet. And having been a long time cat owner, I agree that kibble is not an appropriate diet for cats, and purely feed them the Fancy Feast classic pate - turns out that is essentially one of the only easily available commercial cat foods that does not have various plant based fillers in it, anecdotally people use this particular food to ensure the health of their diabetic cats. Most of my cats have loved raw meat as a treat, and never had any issues as a result, which makes sense considering what they eat in nature.

I was wondering why my cats sleep in the day. No more dry expensive cat food. Barn has mice etc

My kitty is a poultry cat. She catches birds during the hot months of the year. I feed her human grade food ...that I cook for her...turkey breast, chicken breast mixed with dark meat. She will eat beef if Im eating beef...usually part of my rib eye. She won't touch venison, very rarely takes bison. Additionally, she won't touch chopped meat of any sort (I've tried beef, venison, chicken). I think it is the texture she dislikes...oh...she also loves cornish hens( so do I).....shell lick at a very soft egg yolk from duck eggs, but extremely rarely, and wont touch the white protein part.
