I agree 100% and it's annoying to me that the winner has been spoiled for me even though I tried to avoid it for so long. The coverage is dreadful as well, I hate how it skips so much. I don't understand why sports like Tennis or Snooker can get 3+ hour coverage but WSM only gets an hour so you only get highlights.

My belief is that Brian isn’t trying to beat WSM, all he wants to do is make his show the heaviest, brutal, and bring only the best in the world to his show. Paul gave Brian his blessing to carry the torch of bettering the sport into the future. Brian is probably one of the smartest people in Strongman and only wants to put more money in the athletes pocket, and not line the pockets of just the promoters.

Totally agree with this. Brian has been in strongman long enough to know all the worst and best parts of various competitions. Plus, he's a shrewd businessman. And, Brian brings a legitimacy to running a competition having been 4x WSM. I think Brian will do nothing but make the entire sport better, and he'll find a way to make sure the athletes get everything they want and need when competing. And if he overtakes WSM eventually, then that's on WSM for not doing it as well. The athletes will go to the shows where they get better prizes, better treatment, better planning, etc. I hope he is a great success, because he'll make sure alot of that success ends up with the athletes who make the show what it is.

My opinion is this: Either WSM starts offering a pay per view livestream a.s.a.p. and takes a big long step back from the tv-show style (where events are postponed -> athletes get hurt, stuff is drawn out etc.) and remains the biggest show in the world, or the other shows become bigger and bigger and WSM fades into history. Yes WSM brought me to strongman, but man, its long time overdue for a serious change. Strongman is no longer a freak show (like they treat it), but rather a real sport. It has to be treated like that. The athletes have to be treated like that. For instance, can you imagine any other sport with a worldwide fanbase, where after two years, 90% of the fans still have not been able to watch the biggest competition? It just boggles the mind....

I went to WSM 2023 and was shocked at how badly it was ran when they've been doing this for 50ish years. Strongman needs someone to come in and do things newer and better. These things probably wouldn't happen if WSM was streamed live, they've left a gaping hole in the strongman market to allow these rival shows to come in and make it a proper live sport and I wish Brian all the best in continuing that trend. Imagine being told you had to wait until 8 months after the event to watch the Super Bowl, or Champions League Final... it'd be laughable. The "TV Show" format of WSM does not work in the social media era, what are we supposed to do, unfollow every athlete and affiliate of Strongman from April till December so we don't ruin the result? It ridiculous. In terms of viewer experience and fan satisfaction Arnolds, Rogue Invitational, Shaw Classic are about 10 years ahead of WSM currently and they are what I look forward to personally.

And IMO the guy who wins the most major comp in a year is truly the Strongest Man. If you win ASC, Rogue and Shaw Classics, but "only" get 3rd at WSM you are still the Strongest man in the world. I understand that, espacially outsiders, the name/title will be way more important for them, "The World Strongest Man" sound ways cooler then the "Arnold Strongest Classics"-Champion. But winning multiple (major) Comps will always be more impressive to me then winning one WSM title, but nothing else in a year. Watching the outtakes, you really see how much work goes into editing each video. 🤣. Love the videos as always. Great news to hear Brian is trying to bring a title to his competition. I firmly believe that too many random competitions are going to be detrimental to the sport. Without a governing body, Strongman is just floating in the wind. There needs to be regulation encompassing: Where competitions are held, Who competes, When they take place, Prize money, Sponsors, TV Rights etc... Without this regulation, the entire sport depends on a few passionate people spending a lot of their own money in the hope they can turn a profit. Eventually this will no longer work as well as it has been in the last few years, and the sport will fade once again into the fringes. Thinking exclusively from a business perspective: there is nothing for investors to invest in without the organisation needed to guarantee viewers/advertisement opportunity. We need the biggest names in the sport competing at their best, every time they compete. This means that with it's current format you will only get the best guys competing at the events that pay the most and not turning up to the comps that don't. This isn't sustainable. I love strongman for so many reasons. I compete, I watch, I build equipment for and help organise events. I am not just hating on the sport or the way it currently works. I genuinely want the sport to grow. But I do see WSM in it's current format being damaging to the sport. They (WSM) have monopolised the market and despite doing so much for the promotion of the sport, are little more than in the way of the sport truly flourishing. Big long rant there and I've barely scratched the surface. 🤣

The Shaw Classic has a huge leg up on World's Strongest Man in my opinion becuase they'll be live streaming it. It's brutal to want to watch WSM live and instead have to rely on Eddie Hall's limited, but very appreciated, post-event coverage.

WSM is definitely the pearl in the crown for the strongmen themselves. For us fans though they really need to stop taking the piss and let those of us that want to pay to watch it live, to watch it live. I know they have tv rights etc to get around but we know who won long before we get any proper visual content. It can't be the pinnacle for fans when we've had other major meets before it's released. It's nearly impossible to avoid spoilers in this day and age at the best of times. How could it hurt the tv viewership if the hardcore fans could actually watch a live stream lol WSM have set the bar way too low in this day and age. I mean, I'll certainly kick in my couple of bucks for a months subscription to watch the Shaw classic. If a ton of other people do the same the bag might be all right. With WSM though, by the time you can actually watch the events it just doesn't have the same relevance.

I dont see Brian making athletes sign exclusive contracts. He is all about "for the athletes by the athletes," so why would he put the athletes in that situation? Im sure he is very well aware of the controversy in the IFSA era anyway. He is just out there doing his best for the sport and growing it. I see this only pushing other competitions to do better. I believe WSM has been on this high pedestal for a while after IFSA collapsed and they havent really put in the effort to do better. While Brian will not challenge WSM directly, I think it will force WSM to address their ongoing issues rather than put them on the back burner as usual. Everything Brian has done has been for the betterment of the sport and its athletes, why would this move be any different?

I don’t think there will be another split, but I could see a world in which the Shaw Classic could take over as the premier contest in strongman. Athletes already have high praises for the Shaw Classic and how it treats the athletes and is organized. There have already been some athletes saying that the Shaw Classic is one of their main priorities the same way they speak about WSM. If WSM keeps resisting change then the Shaw Classic could take over

This was my comment on Mitch Hoopers Vid on the subject. "I don't think the sport will survive another split. I very much doubt Brian would stop any athlete from competing in any tournament as he is where he is because of the different comps he was in. I don't think WSM can afford to cause another rift. If you look how the athletes reacted when Mark Strong did what he did as he felt bitter about the pull he perceived Giants Live had over the talent pool then WSM won't want to provoke a similar reaction. WUS appeared out of no where and threw money at the sport but the PPVs I purchased or the live streams they ran with ads were frankly crap. The Bahrain comp with the utter shambles in the deadlift bar loading shows that money doesn't make the comp any better. Giants Live have spent years getting to where they are. Even Glenn Ross is still going with his Ultimate Strongman comps. The Strongman Champions league is providing athletes a way into the Sport. If WSM kick off over this then they are knobheads."

I think this is the best news to come out in strongman for a long time. WSM is and always will be needed as an entity to help grow and attract the casual viewer/fan but I don’t think many people can honestly say that the competition finds the worlds strongest man. I do not believe for one second that Brian has any intention / would want any kind of divide within the sport with exclusivity of athletes etc. but he realises that there is a want/demand in the sport to have a competition which truly finds the strongest man on earth. The ASC for many years filled that void but I feel more recently it isn’t as brutal/heavy as during the peak Big Z/Brian era and then there’s the whole discussion about whether 5 events is enough, which IMO it isn’t. I’m really happy with the announcement and believe we will look back on this in 20+ years time and recognise it as the dawn of a new era of strongman.

I just hope that the Rogue shows and Brian can show WSM that they are long overdue for a production quality upgrade. The rogue has great commentators and cutaway segments (e.g. interviews, discussions, branding) in between events whereas WSM commentators try to fill gaps in coverage with pointless conversations, and humor that doesn't always hit the mark, that echo through the whole arena and are impossible to understand for fans watching at home. Giantslive camera quality is often bad and the paid streams do not feel professional. you are just sat there watching from a camera that's hung up hundreds of meters away. The commentators are speaking to the live audience only and there is no booth with commentators for people at home such as the Arnold and Rogue have. If Giantslive wants the sport bigger and more international they need to stop catering to UK only. Speaking of fans watching at home the WSM broadcasting format is absolutely abismal and fans have been complaining about that for years. I love following along with Loz and Liz during WSM weekend but it is absolutely ridiculous that we are all sat there refreshing a spreadsheet for the so-called biggest competition in the sport. WSM is a great competition but I feel very ignored and cast aside as a fan and have been for years. That's why I look forward to the Arnold and Rogue so much more. Those I actually get to follow along and can watch back later (not in clips of 5 mins released over months).

I think we'll have to wait and see. For a lot of fans, World's Strongest Man determines the best strongman and the Arnold Classic determines the actual strongest man. If this is just a title and not an attempt to say, "This is the *real* strongest man alive", then I think it'll be fine. It does feel a bit unnecessary though, because the Shaw Classic winner already holds some prestige and we've seen what's happened to the other shows that have maybe tried to position themselves as head-to-head competition to WSM in that specific regard, i.e. - the title. It's gonna be interesting.

A serious point here - Brian is saying 'I have officially acquired the trademark for The Strongest Man on Earth from Paul Ohl'. What exactly did he acquire? Trademarks need to be reregistered every 10 years and you can't get one that covers the whole planet as individual laws vary. There is no such thing as an “international trademark” that is good everywhere. Am I right in saying Paul gave him his 'blessing' so to speak to use a phrase which Paul came up with 15 years ago?

I was a kid in the 90s and saw world strongest man come on from time to time. The occasional really weird event always put me off because I didn’t recognize it visually as a sport. I swam in high school; the rest of my family were wrestlers and track athletes. After doing six years in the Navy, I had a fleeting interest in CrossFit. I really loved it aside from the fact that it had so many gymnastic movements baked in. My athletic backgrounds, I guess gave me an appreciation for the value of standards in a sport. It wasn’t until the rogue invitational and similar competitions away from the worlds, strongest man that I even found my passion for the sport. Admittedly, it is from afar, but every year that I’ve tried to follow this sport I find some thing to be disappointed with in worlds strongest man Oh, if it is true that the sport with flounder without the competition, then I hope more competition emerging around it incentivize them to be better instead of doubling down on what makes them awful
