Dr. Douglas J. Lisle, Ph.D.is the co-author of The Pleasure Trap available here:
www.amazon.com/dp/1570671974?...
Dr. Doug Lisle is an evolutionary psychologist and co-author of The Pleasure Trap: Mastering the Hidden Force that Undermines Health and Happiness. He and his colleagues (Jennifer Howk and Richard Seidel) have developed a revolutionary method for approaching life challenges and improving self-confidence and self-esteem. They describe their approach as Esteem Dynamics - an approach with clinical insights derived from evolutionary psychology.
Central figures having major influence on the development of Esteem Dynamics include Richard Dawkins, John Tooby and Leda Cosmides, David Buss, Robert Trivers, Steven Pinker, and Geoffrey Miller. All of these individuals are considered world-leading theorists in evolutionary theory and human psychology. Somewhat surprisingly, insights from these trailblazers has yet to reach mainstream clinical psychology, and thus major advances stemming from some of the world’s greatest thinkers have yet to be systematically applied to problems of helping people improve their lives. Esteem Dynamics is the first such effort, and weds Dr. Lisle’s 30-years of clinical experience to the deep insights into human nature only recently available via evolutionary psychology.
Dr. Lisle received his undergraduate education from the University of California, San Diego. He completed his Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology at the University of Virginia, and was then appointed Lecturer in Psychology at Stanford University. His research and clinical interests include health and wellness, self-esteem, relationship satisfaction, the treatment of anxiety and depression, the genetics of individual differences, and optimizing achievement motivation. In addition to his work with Esteem Dynamics, Dr. Lisle lectures widely on health and wellness.
Dr Lisle is available at selected days and times for a one-to-one, personal phone consultation:

This was my exact experience of depression. I felt better as soon as I had a thought that I didn't have to face all of the people I embarrassed myself in front of every single day. I only had to see one or two of them at a time, now and then. And many times the people act like I never even embarrassed myself in the first place. Just like that, I was able to move forward. My mind would not stop ruminating on how I embarrassed myself until I had that thought

AJ, I am a wfpb vegan. However, I have several friends who struggle with anorexia nervosa. I worry this judgement and obsession with thin body image is dangerous for anyone with body image distortions/perceptions. I know we live in an obesity epidemic, but I think there is need to consider the impact of language regarding weight.

Well when I see obese men and women who usually wear graphic t-shirts, I think how great they look. The giggling as they walk and the sweating pits are an extra allure. These experts are part of the problem too. They’re afraid of spelling it how it is. It’s all about hurting feelings instead. At least they’ll have patients filling their offices with health complaints. Denial is a culprit for both men and women. A scale is more truthful. 🙄

When I was twenty I had bariatric surgery and lost 200 pounds. A couple years later I was still being stared at, and finally went to counseling and he said, well you are very good looking, how do you know it's not that, I said I could tell, and he said that, it was because I am 6ft tall and people are conditioned to look at at certain height , but if I come along or say shorty.. they will stop and look twice or more. But I just wanted to fade into the crowd, and he said, sorry. But I noticed now a days some of the f 😊😊sights you see make you feel feel like just one o

I have no family. Why do we consider Hollywood as something to compare to. The best lover I ever had - no - no washboard abs - highly educated and intelligent yes. Fat = no. I suppose somewhat skinny = yes. Where does personality, educatio n, character thought fulness conversation reputation start rating. I'm not on this superficial planet. Character is destiny. This is in my opinion stupid.

@@Goodbyeeveryonehere I appreciate your advice, but very complicated situation here. Special needs child involved & I have no strong back up resources….so it’s much more to it than us being staunch vegan & him being staunch carnivore. My point with Dr. Lyle is there are complicated abuse situations that simply can be the root cause of depression whereas before the marriage & the abuse there was no depression whatsoever. Malignant narcissists are the worse kind. 🕊🌱💚

In an honest and just world, someone would receive value in their bank account with every small piece of useful truth or wisdom he and she dispenses. THAT’S how you can keep yourself reminded of how screwed-up is the world. This has helped me become a better manager of risk, helping me to always encourage myself to have my own back. I went walking in a phenomenal grocery this morning. Even the things I do eat, I have this tendency to gather with vigor. I just had a self-chat and told myself, “YES, it’s incredibly good for you. But nothing is good for you in such a vast quantity- not even water. Eat how much you PLANNED to eat and get it from the best sources. Do not try to eat ALL the golden berries or even ALL the watermelon. We’ll see on the sweet potatoes but probably not ALL of those, either. You’re doing this so you can later eat poison and justify it by balancing it out with perfect sources. DO NOT DO THIS. Hey. HEY. Do you hear me? LISTEN TO ME. Only I care about you. I have your back. No go, I love you, boy 😘” That’s what I say to myself. It works. For now. One day I may outsmart myself and find a work-around. When I get there, I hope to find more wisdom as Dr. Lisle has dispensed here. I’m grateful for you, Chef AJ. I’m grateful for you, Dr. Doug Lisle. I’ll fight on your behalf whenever requested. My weapons are yours 🙇🏻‍♂️
