One of my favourite places is 541! I love how in hamilton, all the businesses and restaurants support one another instead of trying to compete and I see it here on barton too!

I'm actually looking into moving to the Hamilton area so this is good to know! I have been wanting to try 541 ever since I first heard about them and I would love to check out the other places in the area as well.
A neighbourhood with so much growth! It's great to see such a thoughtful and positive video about the area. A great place to support some local Hamilton businesses! 🙌🏻
I've lived off barton for my entire adult life now. It's nice to see some of the rejuvenation happening. 50+ years ago it was the place to be. Would be sweet to see that happen again
Great video! I moved to the North end in 1998, lived there for 13 years and moved back to the area 4 years ago. Wonderful neighbourhood with an old reputation that still lingers even though most of the older population have moved out. I honestly felt more of a sense of community in the North end than in any other part of Hamilton.

Hey, Im considering moving to Catharine Street N, how do you feel about that area?
Glad you did this video!! Barton St needs more love than it gets! I'll be sure to go check out some of these spots for sure!
SOOOOO GOOD! Thank you for sharing the delights and hidden gems of Barton Street! Can't wait to see more highlights from other Hamilton neighbourhoods! HAMILTON ROCKS!!!!
Just moved here from toronto a few months ago and am right off Barton, was so nice to see this, can’t wait to try them all!
I love seeing videos like this that make our city look so great and less intimidating. There are so many great neighbourhoods here and Barton is one of them. Well done!
Just moved here 2 weeks ago and was super excited to see a positive video about Barton! We love it so far and can’t wait to see how the neighbourhood will grow!
Barton has a lots of gems. For bread go to Vaguera Bakery (Barton and Tisdale). Try the small rye flour rolls. They are the size of a child's head but baked fresh daily. They also sell Portuguese pastries. For cheap subs go to Duarte's. They also have a hot food counter with fish and pork sandwiches. There is a French style crepe place on Barton near General Hospital (odd name). There are two Polish delis down near the Polish Catholic Church. They sell perogies and sausages and other goodies from Poland. Frank's Sicilia Bakery (Barton and Sherman) makes great Sicilian cannoli. I hear they are closing soon though. There are many other good places. There is an Italian restaurant called Tocadero's (527 Barton St. E.) only open now on weekends. There is also the Saputo cheese factory store on Barton with good cheese. I am forgetting many places I am sure. As for safety, it's becoming gentrified. So those places usually are safe. Not too many hipsters like James St. N. or Ottawa St. or Locke St.
Love this! Motel is my favourite breakfast spot in the whole city and I can’t wait to try Mai Pai.
I’ve been living in Hamilton for 6 years, heard the same things from the moment we decided to move. This summer I decided to discover a new local restaurant and found the dirty south. After visiting there, I’ve come back to the area numerous times. I can certainly say that BARTON IS SAFE! After watching the video, I’ve got a few more local spots to add to my list! Thank you Joyce for highlighting some great spots to visit 👏🏻
So many fun places to try out on this street! Maipai is already a favourite, but thank you for all of the other great suggestions!
Great video!! Thanks for letting me and Fannie be a part of it!!!

There are so many amazing small businesses on Barton! A bit further east, you can find some more old-school places like Staropolskie Deli & Frank's Sicilia Bakery! ❤️

Can't wait to check out Barton!
Yes! Love the 541 shout-out. They are the best!
Lots of cool places to try!!
amazing video!
This area is def not untouched by "hipsters" as the city of hamilton gave grants to toronto bussines to start up bussines. While it does have a bad reputation a bit still, it def has "trendy hipster" stores.
i used to live in hamilton my dad grew up in east hamilton. crazy how much real estate is nowadays.
So much to explore in this city!
Mmmm! I was born & raised on the Mountain, so only ever visited Barton Street to hang out at the Centre Mall (no longer there on Barton between Ottawa & Kenilworth ☹️). Then I lived in Toronto for the next 30 years, and have now moved back to my childhood home with a city to explore & discover. I’d still be hesitant to park on Barton at night, but will definitely be checking out all these new wonderful culinary locations for lunch!!
Yesssss! I love Barton Street, and I love living on it!
Got some Maipai last evening, favourite pizza (tied with Shorty's).
Great video!
So many great new place to try.
Barton Street/Barton Village is Hamilton’s prefect hidden gem (fitting for Emerald thrive there) seriously everyone should explore Barton!
That so good!!!
I hope the city continues to develop, huge amount of potential. Toronto is too congested, expensive, and too many people are coming here and the GTA from around the world more than any other city in Canada so there is this lack of identity and community in Toronto
Not a secret for much longer! Love this street, so much to do and eat. Such a great community.
As a long time Hamiltonian and north end resident I’m so glad someone’s helping put the rumours to rest that Barton st isn’t safe, while also showcasing the neighbourhood and some of the incredible businesses that occupy that area helping make it what it is. Hats off to you!

Also make Barton Street a shopping destination. I want to do more of my shopping around there.
So many cute shops!!!
It's definitely a gem and will only become more popular in the years to come!

So many great restaurants.

I love the Barton Community 💕
There are so many great businesses on Barton!
Love this community
The next up & coming area 💕
Glad its not too far from mississauga
Wow. The previous video I watched was a real estate agent who suggested to avoid Barton St.
Love 541!
Barton is evolving!
As a person who moved to the Barton neighbourhood in the late 80’s to early 2000’s….. I can attest that it earned that reputation. If you were young, there was a good chance someone might snatch your starter hat, or rob you for your bulls/raiders jacket. The Dickie D (ice cream bikes) would get robbed for their money and ice cream in my neighbourhood. The lifeguards at Birge Park pool would get assaulted and harassed by a group of guys on a regular basis. The pay phones on Barton were shut off and only could be used for 911 after 11pm. I literally saved a sex trade worker from being murdered on the tracks behind Birge Park. Barton still has its problems, but it’s definitely not as bad as I remember it.
I admit I grew up with the idea that Barton was dangerous ... But now I see how things are changing for the better.
Mai Pai Detroit Pizza is the best!
Barton Street!!!!! yes!!
Well I lived their for a a bit n worked their for yrs I hope they cleaned it up the street was nasty
My hood!!
I used to live just off Barton Street and it gets a bad reputation despite all the amazing businesses.
Born and raised!
go to barton at night time now thats a video
PORTUGUESE ARE CALLING N3XT...CRYING FOR IT....
"Untouched by hipsters" Proceeds to interview no one but hipsters. Just having a go, I appreciate the video nonetheless!
Great video! @jennabobennaaa
Whoever says Barton Street even has hookers is wrong, I only see them less than 1% of the time or never when I walk along the street shop hopping and during evenings/nights. The area has neglected storefronts yes but obvious poverty is worst in other parts of Canada like Vancouver and Scarborough.
