Is anyone TRYING to write good lyrics anymore?

Музыка

Is ABCDEFU as good as Purple Rain? Are modern lyrics all garbage? Is music doomed? Should I even keep making music? The answer to these questions is simple...no. But alas, let's dive into why today's lyrics are garbage...or are they? #musicproduction #lyrics #videoessay

Thank you for saying “in popular music” so many KZread talking heads say “todays music” and it just screams ignorance of anything outside of the mainstream or the past.

Lyrics didnt used to be good. We just only remember the good ones. Every decade had loads of terrible music hitting the charts. They just get forgotten. (just got to the end of the video and see that you raised this point too) :)

Lyrics are a bit of an after thought in my band. Flow is more important as when we perform, no one can really hear what the lyrics are anyway.

Tons of mid-20th century pop music has low-effort banal lyrics. Every era has bad lyrics aplenty.

You're right lyrics ain't what they've used to be, but there were some pretty horrible ones back then too. Lately i've written lyrics that makes me smile or "hey, that actually makes sense" which is great. I've always hated writing lyrics, but sometimes they come out and it's fantastic! It's similar to writing good songs i think. Lots of re-writing and coming up with better parts. 'Rock You Like a Hurricane' is a classic yet the lyrics are well.. My slightly controversial ballad single 'Stick It In' took a lot of time rewriting the lyrics and trying to fit the verses together so they'll sound similar and the lyrics make sense. At least i can't stop laughing at the chorus. It's the best! An absolute classic in the future, well probably when i'm dead. I think we live in this 'era' were when people die, they will get discovered. Like some of the renaissance artists. Since the market is so oversaturated.

@@AdamSliger There's two philosophies as i see it. Release a bunch of stuff which is the only way if you want to get "famous right now". Or just release quality stuff whenever you feel like it and pray for a miracle, and let it speak for itself in the future when you're dead (legendary)

I have to agree with how lyrics have declined in popular music (rap is where this is the most noticeable in my opinion). But I think there is also a decline in quality to the music itself and the singer too. Honestly, there just isn't as seemingly much creativity or dedication there either. Of course I get the need for numbers, but using autotune to make yourself sound good? I understand, but stuff like that was meant to help, not be your voice. And as for music, there were plenty of songs that had practically no lyrics to them, but they were loved because the music by itself was great.
