Gyokeres is an absolute no-brainer when it comes to the profile up top that Alex says we're missing. The guy can score every type of goal, runs both channels and he has always been available, be that for Coventry last season or for Sporting.

He does look very good, but there is a risk to him, doing it in Portugal and the Championship is very different to competing for champions leagues and prems which is the level we would require. Not saying he can’t do it. But there is always that risk that it’s too high a level for him and for 80m I’m not sure I’m comfortable with that risk, but if he’s the guy arteta wants then I trust he is the right guy!

Isak reminds me of Jackson Martinez they're really similar. Very athletic fast operates better in behind or in space outside of the box. For a club like Arsenal, our forwards are never given space in behind or outside the box. To be effective for Arsenal, the number one attribute for our strikers are distribution. Conditioning/fitness/strength/speed and agility etc require world-class athletes. Very simply, Thierry Henry is our archetypal striker for a reason. Patrick Vieira is our archetypal defensive midfielder for a reason. And Sol Campbell us our archetypal defender for a reason. ❤😂

I watched both Isak's and Ferguson's goals for 22/23 and I'm with Bhavs on this one. Ferguson has less variety about his game than Isak who would fit the Arsenal system better. Of course Brighton might be playing Evan as a 'tap in' striker but I want to see more of his work from midfield, which Isak clearly shows. To be honest, Mitoma was the player who stood out most in the Brighton clips...

I watched some videos on Gyokeres. What actually impressed me is that he actually made a lot of his goals with his own skills. He can score with both feet. He has the ability to turn and shoot. He isnt just a positional player that is in the right place at the right time. That makes him dangerous in the Salah, messi, Mbappe style. He would need to migrate those skills to the PL. How much of what he does is confidence based, I dont know, but I think it is a big factor which might be an issue if he struggles. On Ferguson, Im Irish and Ive seen a lot of Ferguson and hes been touted as our great hope. He has shown less than Nicols Jackson. I wouldnt touch him. £80m is nuts for him. Walk away.

@@findingaether For every talented player, a Hleb, a VanPerie, a Fabregas. We have to pair them up with a skilless adebayor, Walcott and song/diaby/denilson. That era taught us that we can’t get success with half a talented team.

I’d take Isak in a cold minute if he’s on the market! Gives you a little bit of the striker we’re after, but without having to sacrifice the all-round CF play that we get from Havertz. Best of both worlds.

Agree on Arteta not wanting a main striker to run through. His ideas revolve around team unity and play and I love it. If we have a main striker and he gets injured the entire team suffers. Spread it around and we are always deadly.

I look at it this way - we could be swapping Nketiah for Isak in the summer. That’s a huge upgrade for the squad

Arteta is going to spend major money this summer on a left 8. There will be a forward, but it would be one who can play across the front three. Rice will settle at 6. Ødegaard is firm at right 8. A left 8 with ball security, running with the ball ability, and an eye for line-breaking passes will be the major expenditure.

I cant help but feel that gyokeres is a better option given isak's injuries We cant have another injury prone striker when Jesus already has his problems

sounds like Isak combines the best qualities of Havertz, Jesus, and Eddie.

Don't see the hype about Gyokeres. Great player but not for us. We need the best of the best. People who are top 3 itw at something. He simply isn't. Leao, Diomande, Neves, Balde/Davies, FDJ, Onana, Nico Williams, - These are the players we should be looking at. All possess atleast one elite skill.

I think Gyokeres would do better under Arteta than Isak. He has a lot to prove and would be willing to learn. He provides more and better assists than Isak which would be important for Arteta. It wouldn’t be an issue for him to start on the bench until he proves himself whereas Isak would be expected to start right away. The one big downside is his price tag could be too much of a risk.

Also we're missing a great lw more than a striker imo

Btw for me our priority still in the midfield. Our gameplay needs us to dominate midfield with strength energy n technical ability . As per arteta we need dominance. We have Mika bierieth doing well I think he be challenging hojlund in three years time for that Denmark striker berth

For me, Gyökeres is the no brainer option. He’s explosive, smart and extremely clinical. He has a presence in the penalty that is just superb and he’s unselfish when the opportunity presents itself. Isak is probably cleaner on the ball technically speaking, but his injury record is extremely worrying which makes me cautious even tho he’s a top quality striker too, potentially.

We know there's a transfer shortlist Edu and Arteta have for every position/role. And its obvious from Raya's signing, that the shortlist doesn't get wiped clean even if we sign someone else. So the question is, where does Isak come on that shortlist? And who else is on that list for that role?

I think the question Mikel needs to answer is does he want an out and out #9 to start every game or does he want someone in the rotation to offer something different. I think Isak is a great option for someone to be in a rotation and if that’s the case his injury record doesn’t bother me.

Isak is PL proven but Gyokeres has a better injury record. This is a tough choice. I am 50-50 on this

Arsenal needs a fox in the box... Isak is not this unfortunately. Arsenal mostly play in the opponents half, Osimhen won't work as well. Gyokeres is the man, and very similar to mika biereth.

I personally wouldn't take isak, hes talented yes, but his he what we need? We need a target man, a physical presence in the opposition box, not someone that would get on martinelli's way. Isak likes to run from behind, like how aubameyang used to do with lacazette, but he started going downhill when he was moved centrally to accommodate martinelli, going for that model wouldn't get the best from martinelli or our attack in general, its not a coincidence our form is great whilst we have havertz, a physical presence upfront

Isak is great but wasnt it Alex who was worrying about Gabi Jesus' availability, well Isak is just as bad in that regard, plus as much as i like Isak i think his ball striking needs work, hes very inconsistent when it comes to scoring goals, doesnt mean hes overall an inconsistent player but if we're complaining about Jesus doing everything other than finishing and being injury prone, we'll find ourselves having the same discussions about Isak within the next season if we do sign him. I prefer Gyokeres or even Vlahovic, i think those two have more consistent ball striking and can fit our system well.

Havertz's height, Trossard's finishing, Jesus' technical ability, Nketiah's runs in behind. He would fit perfectly into our squad but wouldn't offer us a new dimension. However, considering how good we are currently i don't think we need to switch up our style to get someone like Gyökeres or Toney.

I wouldn't go for Toney because he's not gonna be mobile enough to be lethal in a transition but Gyokeres yes. I think that we should 100% look at Sesko. There's something about him that gives me RVP vibes.

@@iverbyrkjedal7797 No. He is so far from that standard. VanPersie, Sanchez, Jesus and Trossard are a lot more skillful than Isak. Isak is not as skilless as Auba, Laca, Nketiah, Walcott, Giroud and Podolski. But he is not half skillful as the ones I’ve mentioned.

You can see Arteta’s system emerging and how an Isak or any CF fits into it Against teams we should be dominating, Havertz goes into midfield with Rice and Ø. In more even games, Rice goes into Havertz role and a DLP sits in front of the back line. With someone like Isak, I’d be interested to see him shift out to the left in those more even matches with Havertz up front for the duels

Arsenal should bring back Mika Biereth, he is a clinical finisher, good physic, tall and strong. We need to sign Jarrod Bowen from WestHarm United.

Gyorkeres reminds me of Gabriel Batistuta, I love him. If we don't get him I would be brokenhearted. I want him, I even love his celebration. And Nico Williams as our winger. And maybe Jamal Musiala/ Xavi Simmons, two players that can take on defenders. I want attackers that strike fear into defenders.

I would go for Ferguson. Cos once he starts more regularly, his price will go up

How much would Isak cost though?.

I don’t think he raises the ceiling - he does a lot of what our attackers already do, I think people get caught up in his aesthetics

Oh yeah, Newcastle will likely be a force to be reckoned with in a few (4-6) years time, but as the previous commenter alluded to, they’ve got FFP limitations to meet *now* and should they get dangerously close to failing those limitations then they will have to sell off some high value assets which is something we can exploit in the short term while we build a squad. The way FFP now helps club determine which players they need to sell to meet the limitations is fascinating to see. Chelsea are learning the hard way that it’s tough to need to balance the books. They might need to sell say Broja for 40 million when there’s nobody on the market that would reasonably meet that fee. It’s a tough spot to be in.
