I agree about the rims.I would put stock steelies and correct wheel covers on or,at the most,some Ansen 5 slot wheels like Starsky's Torino😉

Those look way better than most aftermarket “donk” style rims would look. Simple & clean 5 point rim design. For this era it needs some crager SS rims or some mag wheels. It’d give it a sporty edge over the family car hub caps and be age appropriate.
Absolutely agree about those hideous rims give me that old original Ford hubcaps

Very nice car, one that you don't see much these days. A couple of things I can point out for you; the upholstery isn't leather, it's actually vinyl. The belt hanging behind your head is a shoulder belt that actually connects to the front seat lap belt buckle. It gives you the option of using just the lap belt or, (for the driver) drawing the upper belt over your left shoulder and connecting it to the lap buckle near your right hip. There should be a hook over the front driver's side window to attach the upper belt to so it doesn't swing around behind your head. Ditto for the front passenger seat belt. A 429 cu in engine is 7 liters. If the engine in your car is 5.8 liters, it's a 351 cu in Windsor V8 which was the base engine offered in a '72 LTD. The other engine options were a 400 CI or a 429 CI V8. I enjoyed the video, especially since you seem to really like the car. I have a '72 Galaxie 500 2-door hardtop that I've owned for 25 years. It's the same color inside and out as this LTD with the same engine. It also has A/C, power steering and power disc brakes like the LTD. The LTD trim was a fancier version of the Galaxie 500. That is one MINT and original 1972 Ford LTD gem right there, other than those hideous wheels that don't do justice to the overall condition of this classic. I can't believe it still has the original working AM radio in it! Looking at that dash is giving me flashback memories of my grandfather's Ford Galaxie (similar car). By the way, that is a 429 cubic inch V8 by the looks of it, making it a 7.0L V8. Those valve covers give it away. I definitely would have been able to tell, if it were equipped with the 351W (5.8L) or 302 (5.0L) V8s which have much smaller valve covers.

The rims are OK but personally I would rather have something more "stock"!! Maybe old school black rims with baby moon center caps myself!!
The seat belt that's hanging in the back, is for the front. You hook that back piece to the piece that goes around your waist, to make a complete seat belt.
There's nothing in the world like owning a classic car.
Love those old boats. I still drive an old Lincoln.

Aside from the wheels, tires and vinyl seats, it's exactly the same as my car.
Absolutely a classic and in pretty good condition. That was a common color scheme back in the day. Yes the side view mirrors were kind of small back in the day. Great period tunes at the end there. I am sorry but those rims have to go. Slap some proper size magnums on there and you're in. That engine has lots of potential and speed parts are very much available. In the 70s the emission regs were pretty new and they hadn't quite figured out how to cope. Nice ride.

Back when I was a Salesman in 1978 of the Lincoln Mercury dealership I bought a trade in 1971 Ford LTD Brougham complete with fold-down armrest in the front and side turn lamps was a really really nice car

I've owned a few LTDs. 2 1972s, a 1970, a 1974, and a 1978. All good cars.

A car made by the Ford Motor Company that began as the limited version of the Galaxie. At a dealership i worked for in the 70's we referred it as limited. It later dropped the Galaxie and just became its own model.

officially it meant "Luxury Trim Decor" because limited was copyrighted by a competitor
I’m a child of 80’s and 90’s and grew up with these beauties. I have a 72 LTD just like it with a 400 and dual cherrybombs. Those belts dangling from the roof are the shoulder belts. They’re a beast to get back up once you take them down. 😆 I really dig those wheels too.
Man you got a dope ass ride. I have a Black 77 2 door. That trunk you have is modified and the upper area is where the spare tire and jack would be stored, at least that is where my 77 has it.

My parents had a 2 dr coupe 69 or 70. Seeing certain features brought back flashbacks. Trunk keyhole cover, seat adjust handle, and the hood latch. People where I’m from had to chain the hood down because of battery thefts. The 70s was a great time to grow up.
My great grandmother had a blue one. She had to sit on a book to see over the steering wheel. Back out of the garage and then tear down the driveway and down the hill like a bat out of hell.
In the brochure it says ltd means Lincoln type design.

I had 1 same model same engine 4 door except mine was red in and out. I had another 1 same everything except darker green same interior as yours with 351m motor. My daughter hated the green one lol she was an early 80s baby lol.

my family had a 1972 Country Squire station wagon. The wagon version of the LTD. We had 400 V8 in ours. You are right, back then it was a;; about torque, not acceleration. Your LTD weighs in at about 4,500; lbs.... imagine moving that from a stop! It is a beautiful car, thanks for preserving auto history.

Yep as someone else already mentioned, that belt on 09:14 goes round your upper body and hooks into the second buckle up front. It actually feels safer than a modern belt because there is no slack whatsoever on the spool. I'll be honest and say I rarely ever wear mine, and just go with the lap belt, even though your noggin will still kiss the windshield if hit head on... but with a car this size and 100% steel, that would only be with a semi, not something like an SUV or a Prius in which you won't feel a thing :D

Back in the late 70s I drove a 72 LTD in high school and then college. I was that rare teenager that wore both the lap and shoulder belts. In addition to the obvious safety aspect of buckling up, I really liked the secure feeling those belts provided. The car actually drove and handled better with them on. One weekend I was coming home from college and a drunk driver in a Chevy Suburban crossed the center line and hit me head on. Because of the size and quality of the car along with the fact that I was wearing both the lap and shoulder belts, I walked away with only bruises from the belts and minor cuts and scratches. The Suburban driver was wearing a 3 point seat belt but had the shoulder strap under his left arm so it was basically a 3 point lap belt. He had massive head and chest injuries from hitting the steering wheel and dash. I would highly recommend wearing the shoulder belt with the lap belt as a lap belt only just holds your lower body in place.
This is what my father drove in 1973 in Australia in a RHD version Ford Australia brought over. 400v8 that only made 260hp with what felt like a very stiff accelerator spring. Same color. Loved it as a kid.

@@michaelbenardo5695 That 260 rather pathetic horses was in Australia - I think they were somehow measured differently in the USA and Australia in that era - or perhaps we had less pollution gear hanging off ours. I cant imagine how gutless 165 horsepower would have been in a car that heavy.

Love the car my man. I have a 78 Grand Marquis as my daily driver and your ltd reminds me of it... just better. Not gonna lie you have me a little jealous with that thing. Also I could be wrong but I always though LTD stood for Lincoln Thunderbird Division.

My old man had one of these back in the day. It had a 400 V8 motor, and said it did 19mpg on highway, great power. Not bad considering the era, weight of car and motor. He regretted buying an 80s Crown Vic thereafter, because it was underpowered due to increased emmissions...... catalytic converters, vacuum valves etc, yet it didnt average much more mpg than it's 70s predecessors. A sweet '72 indeed. So, my grandmother had this same car almost this color too. I thought LTD stood for Limited but this word was never actually used? Simply LTD (don't know how correct I am on this). The upscale Galaxie 500. This car is in nice shape & a great price too. I do remember them as guzzlers. Odd the heat/ac is on the left because on the '70 LTD the radio was on the left. Most enjoyable. Thank you!!
I learned to drive on my Father's 1974 LTD. Dark green with a dark green vinyl roof and a 400 2V, rated at 168HP.
My third grade teacher in 1974 had one just like that 4-door sedan, I presume it was 1972, it was new and as a kid I loved her car, it was in Caracas, Venezuela

Yes, I concur. Your car is very nice. I’d take a 1971 as well. With a few exceptions 71 & 72 almost look the same. To think... back then they changed body style just about every year or two. Whereas the last generation of Crown Vic went principally unchanged from 1998 all the way to 2011.

LTD means limited. In 1965 it was a trim package for the Ford Galaxie 500. My uncle had a 65 that said Ford Galaxie 500 LTD. Starting in 1966 it became it's own series to compete with Chevrolet Caprice. What you have is considered a 4 door pillared hard top. You could get three different 4 door models in the 72 LTD series. 4 door sedan, you can tell because the roof line is curved giving it a rounder appearance and it has window frames vs what is seen here. The 4 door hardtop and 4 door pillared hardtop are squared off. Look at old episodes of Streets if San Francisco and you will see a 4 door sedan that is used by Detective Stone and Keller, (Carl Malden and Michael Douglas). Albeit a Galaxie, it's still the same car but a step down from LTD. They also had 2 door hardtops and station wagons in the LTD series. Funny how you mention the size of the steering wheel. Its the same steering wheel as my 1972 Mercury Montego MX, my 1972 Ford Gran Torino and my 1972 Ford Pinto. When we bought the Montego in May of 1972 we were coming from a 1962 Chrysler Newport. The first thing we noticed was how much smaller the steering wheel was in the Montego. And yes these steering wheels are thin and with power steering you can turn the wheel with your finger. Your LTD is beautiful and you have one of the most common color combinations that year. I have the same green color inside of all three of my cars. Both the Torino and Pinto are white, and the Montego is Ivy green. Dark green with yellow flex of paint. Matched the original yellow factory paint stripes or pin stripes. You probably has the same 351 V-8 as mine as well as the same Philco AM radio that came in most 1972 Fords back then. You will have lots of fun with that car, but you will be visiting the gas station quite often.
Nice video.You showed a lot of little Takes me back in time .I had a 71 Ford galaxy that was the same car.I think It would look better with the original.wheels and hub caps on it.And one more thing A vintage car especially a luxury car such as that would be more complete if you would fix the clock on the dash.It would be neat to see the second hand ticking away.They dont make clocks like that any more and from me being from that era, a clock in a car wasnt very common .Only the upscale cars had them.Enjoy that beautiful car!Paul

I had a72 Galaxie 4 dr sedan. 351 Cleveland was in mine. I regretted selling mine for a 79 Impala. That got 500,000 miles. LTD is Abbreviated for Limited

Good choice of music. Sounds period correct, unlike those wheels, which really are not too bad as far as old car/new wheels go. No exhaust tips on this car. That's a dual exhaust, no 'tips'. Exhaust tips are separate pieces that are either welded or screwed to the exhaust pipe. What you have there is just the ends of the exhaust pipes, commonly referred to simply as 'dual exhaust'.
Had one in high school 1972 LTD BROUGHAM 2door black with red interior had the 429 4v it had a lot of options power seats split bench power windows 8 track player, I miss that car!!! Ltd meant luxury touring division I read that on the hub caps, but in high school it meant large titanic D*** I remember a girl called it little tiny d*** lol everyone had something for LTD!

For your information, the meaning of the word LTD comes from the abbreviation form for Limited. In other words, during the year of 1965, the Ford Motor Company wanted to come out with the new Ford Limited version model, but for various Copyright reasons and due to legal lawsuits, they weren’t aloud to use the complete name Limited to be labeled on their car models, since Mopar had already borrowed the name for the Chrysler Limited model previously in 1960. So the Ford Motor Company finally decided to settle for the word LTD instead. End of the story. I really hope that this answered your question, FuzzyDice. Thank you. P.S. FuzzyDice, I’m sorry to tell you this but the rims don’t match at all, with this type of car. May I suggest the original Ford Custom hub caps instead. With all due respect, it’s only my opinion. So my mother was right! She always said that Ford wanted to called it the Limited, but she said GM blocked that because Buick had used that model name off and on.

FYI, in automotive historical nomenclature, a hard top, regardless of four doors or two, is pillar less, and the door glass is frameless. Meaning that there is no B pillar to support the roof between the rear of the front door glass and the front of the rear door glass. On a hardtop, roll the front and rear windows down and there is no pillar all the way from the windshield A pillar back to the back glass C pillar. Pillar less cars were marketed as more sporty. A sedan would have B pillars, either as a two door or a four door. A two door sedan has a B pillar. A two door hardtop has no B pillar. A two door coupe has no B pillar either but usually has a more swoops rear roofline, sometimes referred to as a “fastback”. Take a look at full sized four door cars from the 60’s through the 70’s, and you’ll notice that fleet cars, I.e. taxis, cop cars, etc. always were sedans. Sedans are. A little lighter and much stronger because the lack of a B pillar required substantial reinforcement under the floor, particularly the rocker panels, which enabled the sporty look but added a fair amount of weight, kind of like in a convertible. Cop cars and taxis weren’t concerned with style, they wanted agility and safety. Even two door cars were available as two-door sedans, complete with a B pillar. These were particularly popular with drag racers as they were much lighter and had a more torsionally robust structure, which helped to keep the tires planted on launch. Another reason for the name “hardtop”, is that in the distant past, many roofs were fabric or otherwise convertible, and thusly required a pillar at every door jamb for support of said roof. But when designers wanted to remove the B pillar for a more open appearance, it required that the roof do away with any type of fabric or convertible roof, in favor of a “hard top”.
I agree with you it's a great looking car for its age.Only thing I have to disagree with you on is that the interior is all vinyl,back then the vinyl produced for cars of that Era was extremely durable.Other than that I am jealous I wish I had a car as pristine as that.

@@malaiseexpert- WRONG I had a 1971 LTD 429-4V in a 2-door hardtop...and if you took it easy 17 was easy... Had a 71 custom 500 4 door sedan...351-2V and it would get low 20s on hwy...now driving at 100+ mph they got bad mpg...but these cars are BEFORE the 1973/74 DETUNING that ford did for emissions...THEN those cars got horrible mpg due to their Crappy tune... My father had a 71 custom with a 300 six (the 240 had dropped a valve) and a 3-tree and it could get almost 25 on the HWY... Most people don't realize the MPG weren't that bad until mid-late 70s.
power steering is a yes had it since 50s. it was pretty much standard on fullsize cars from the mid 60s on.
I never understood why the mirrors were always located so far back on the doors in that era. They do look kinda nice that way though.
