Ive just done 2 weeks on a 125, (i passed part 2 in early 1990's), over 1,200 miles and camping, which has been utterly sublime. Personally I find it more fun trying to ride a small bike quick than having to ride a bigger bike slowly.

People NEED to learn the difference between NEED and WANT. LOL

I’ve thought about this subject many times, 125’s are GREAT fun if you ride mainly on A roads, B roads, and dual carriageways. But on long distance motorway runs I’ve found a 125 a bit out of its depth. I ride a 900cc Yamaha, the great thing about it is it doesn’t feel strained at speeds over 60, more like just purring at that speed, plus if you feel like or need to overtake you just open the throttle and there’s all the power you need. It all depends where you ride your bike and how long you ride for.

Knocked the nail on the head with that breakdown. I agree 100% with everything you say, I only feel vulnerable on dual carriageways riding my 125….I keep up with the big boys on the country lanes if they behave 😁 nothing better than “pushing” a 600 around a long bend on a 125 😆

I've never ridden a bike I haven't enjoyed. I own a 125, two 600's a 900 and Co own a nitrous 1100 drag bike. I'm no less a biker on the 125, and still having fun.

I agree, I did Lands End to John O Groats on my YZF-R125 on L plates, took me a while but they're capeable little bikes. I managed to do 2000 miles (stopping off to visit people along the way) in 2 weeks and I think I filled up about 10 times? Made it from Brighton > Lands End > Shropshire on one tank of fuel... which is incredible - that was with a straight pipe too. Completely underrated bikes in my opinon.

You don’t need a vehicle of any kind 🤔 because there’s always public transport, but sod that I’ll take my SV650 thanks very much 👍

Yeh for us that work unsocial hours public transport wouldn’t work plus my 12-15 min ride to work would take an hour on the bus.

Agreed. My duke does 60 comfortably and can push it to 70-75 when there's not a massive headwind. However, when I get into the city it's absolutely amazing because it's so small. Filtering in an absolute breeze, even with panniers. The only thing I miss is not having the torque to get gone at lights. Still dying to upgrade though... once the insurance drops.

it has been enough for me for the last 4 years, it is certainly good for city commute and some highway travels as long as you are aware that you will be the slowest vehicle on the road, that being said i would definetly go for a bigger bike, but it would be more of a whim than anything else, because when it comes to fuel economy nothing comes close to a 125cc or 150cc bike, and that's my biggest concern considering that where i live gasoline cost around $4.7 to $5 UDS per galon if not more.

Oh yeah my 125 went for like two weeks without filling up and that was commuting plus fun rides. Now it's like I can either commute for 5 days without filling up and that's all or fill up like two or three times if I go for a fun ride and commute lol

I've been very impressed with how keen my lexmoto XTRS 125 is (bought for a cheap bike challenge) , as someone who has ridden big bikes for years I still really enjoy 125's. A few years ago I did lands end to John o groats on a C90, which proved that was enough to transport you anywhere. In the UK.

I do recall you saying that 125's are great for 'getting by' BUT the UK government needs to increase the maximum engine size for CBT riders to at least 250cc because of the fact that the faster/slightly more powerful the bike the safer it is (or something like that)

I think if you're over 21 you should be able to ride a 250/300 cc on a cbt

I still have a 125, its amazing getting around town, but when I want to get some place far, comfort wise its much easier to get on the 900...however, if I am particularly broke at that time, I will put up with the motorway and save a lot of fuel, though its quite demanding and not as comfortable.

my aprilia rs 125 drinks fuel like no tomorrow lucky if i get 30-35mpg but boy is she fun to ride.

125CC is a real Revolution !!it's against all superior expenses!! Cheap transportation as you save money from the expensive gasoline and safer as it cannot reach maximum speed, as you desire, in your stupid shellfish dreams!! I just bought a Sinis terrain 125CC and icame from Athens to my city Argos which is 135 kilometers!!I travel from the highway and it was a really amazing and lovely lovely trip

Yo can you do a video talking about keeping your bike safe and which type of safety procedures to use to avoid your bike from being stolen. Recently on Facebook I've seen a lot of "please share my bike has been stolen" etc, and motorbike theft in London in through the roof atm

I feel like I need a bigger bike due to where I live. But thinking about it it's more likely me being on a CBT and being surrounded by motorways and feeling like I can't really go exploring as every way seems to lead to a motorway :(

Last winter I was commuting 42 miles each way to work and back in the dark and sub zero temps most of the time, on my 125 ybr. It was perfectly happy but I so wanted a bigger bike that could do the journey at closer to 70 not 50mph😂

It's more fun to ride a slow bike fast than a fast bike slow

I’ve only been on my 125 for a month now but I WANT MORE POWER but I really don’t need it as I live in a fairly large town and there’s only a small number of 60mph roads around, 125cc is actually perfect for around here

im about to go to university next month , 20 miles to college and 20 miles back on 40mph roads. a 125 is perfect for me.

I think it may depend a little on the bike in question and what you plan to do with it. I've ridden my '17 plate CBR125R from Manchester down to Silverstone (Northamptonshire - 130 miles), Swindon (180 miles), Cambridge (170 miles) and even to a small cafe somewhere in the vicinity of West Meons (230 miles), and for some of those I've gone back home the same day. Granted that was all over A and B roads, but it did include a fair amount of 70mph dual carriageways like the A1, A5, A38 and A50. Most recently, since passing my full license test a week or so back, I've ridden it every day to work on the motorway (15 miles each way) without dropping much below 70mph (on the speedo) and making plenty of overtakes in the process. Don't get me wrong, I'm not sure I'd be confident to ride it down the motorway for hours on end (at least not yet), but it's reasonably capable I think. I am opting to get a bigger bike though, the seat is a touch uncomfortable after 160 odd miles and there's not much scope for luggage. Still keeping the CBR though. Fuel wise it's anything between 160 and 280 miles on about 10-12 litres (with the higher figure being mostly 30mph riding), though I haven't worked it out on motorway journeys yet, but that's maybe up to 120 miles per gallon?

If you do a lot of motorway commuting then i would say you need a bigger bike. Or if you have to carry items on your commute. But I’m playing devils advocate. I get your point a 125 is enough for most people. Good video.

Spicy I'm currently looking at getting my first 125 and am left with 2 choices. Either I can get a second hand Yamaha YS125 for £2200 or a new Austrian/Chinese bike for £1900. According to the sellers second hand bikes (especially 125cc) should be steered away from but I'm not so sure. Also there's a second hand Chinese 125cc for £850 that I've got my eye on but like I'm scared it'll break down and obviously I wouldn't be covered for it.

I fill up 3 times per week on my 125, and once every 6 weeks on the 500

enough to get where you're going? probably, situation depending, enough to get up a hill without loosing speed and having the old lady in a land rover catch you up and sit on your arse?, probably not, 125's are great in town on flat ground, anything hilly at 50mph+ and you're inveitably holding someone up or getting overtaken, it feels so inconsiderate sometimes :

Depends a lot on the bike. I've been running around all weekend on a lexmoto xtrs 125, and I've been held up by cars and vans quite a bit, but never held anyone up so far. It holds 60 no problem even up hill, though it doesn't hurt that I'm a small guy at 5'7" and 159lbs.

For the city it’s all you need. Cheap to run, light and manageable. I have a Ducati monster now and I hate riding it in town, just feels lumpy and heavy.

Spot on Spicy, a 125 will do the job for a lot of people, but boy is it a pain in the ass, the back and the shoulders on a long ride. That's it my mind is made up, I need something bigger😀👍

I live in the countryside, I have to go along 6mph roads to get to collage, no one really cares about restrictions on them I mean I derestricted mine, it’s easily capable of doing 45mph, but it’s still dangerous in my opinion, the amount of people that overtake me and almost hit an incoming car in the process is crazy, also people like to think they can pull out infront of a moped like it’s nothing, then by the time I’ve got my speed up again and held up a line of cars their all the way down the road, I think they should allow at 16 at least a 70cc, because if you have to go on a road knowing your vehicle cannot maintain a safe speed it doesn’t help you feel comfortable at all, probably the reason the majority of people have 70 kits on their bikes at 16

I fill up my 50 about every week, costs me about £6. It's less than a 7L tank though.

I have a 125 and I wouldn't comfortably be able to do 60 and still have power to get out of a bad situation. But at the moment i have only been on 1 road were i can legally do that but you wouldn't want to on that road due to the corners. If i didn't want to go on other roads i would stick with my 125. But i want to go on longer rides with high speeds so will need a bigger bike. as for filling her up i ride mine to and from work 5 days a week and i can get away with filling her up 1 every 3/4 weeks. and that costs me around £17.

I ride a 125cc, im a big dude 6'4 ( fat wanker ) and it gets me around just damn fine ! as much as i want a bigger cc bike, i love my marauder!

125’s aren’t very fat lad friendly - I need mor powazzzz! 😂

I only ride for pleasure really so in my case, nope don't need a bike. However some folk do have to rely on a motorbike as transport as can't afford a car and public transport is not workable and they work too far from home to walk.

In the most motorcykle heavy nations like India, Vietnam, Philippines, Thailand etc small displacement motorcykles rule, even 110cc are very much a thing over there. Small displacement motorcykles for most people is cheap freedom and flexibility, unlike here in the west where riding a motorbike is more of a hobby than a utility (at least for most people, with some exceptions like myself)

Aving passed n got my A1 licence with my pulse 125! Theory mod 1 mod 2 etc! Means NO Cbts ever No L-plates Motorway entilment!!! Best thing ever! Like u spice with Betty i ad mine for 7 odd yrs Plymouth! No need for anything bigger! Peace dude!!!

True, you don't NEED more than a 125cc but perhaps a shaft (drive) takes your fancy. Or a reverse gear. Horses for courses.

Need and want is best explained by the brush and the vacuum cleaner. You might need a brush but want a vacuum cleaner, the brush will do the job but a vacuum cleaner will do it quicker and easier.

I'm 43 and riding 125..for what I need it for.its ample enough to visit family and pop to where I need to go.and for me insurance is ridiculously low.and also cost me about £5 week to run..by the way it's a scooter ..but I defo don't need nothing bigger..

Do yo travel locally though no A roads. I would have to travel busy A roads with lots of lorries and being heavier would worry about going the same speed as them

My Benelli can get into the low 20's for mpg on a quick run. Bikes stop being economical after about a 600. When I hear about people using second hand tyres and chains on 1100's I cringe, ride something you can afford, big bikes are not cheap transportation.

I mean if you don't really like commuting by public transport getting a 125cc bike (or any bike that makes around 10hp) would be fantastic! it's Cheap to Run and Own -it usually gets 100-150MPG's -only needs 1 liter of oil every oil change -if you've got those chinese Honda clones, parts are absolutely cheap.. Performance wise.. -a 10hp bike with your weight on it would be around 50hp per ton so you're basically accelerating like an older Diesel Ford Transit 🤷🏻‍♂️ Good Enough to keep up with traffic I guess -if it's a 4 stroke it could climb some steep hills, even hills that would challenge cars. -can cruise at 60kph-80kph all day. -absolute top speed would be around 100-115kph

curtis elliott there is a lot of exaggeration about how fast these 125's go most of the time there done by 60mph. I found a yamaha r125yzf only goes about 67mph (gps) on a flat road tucked. Probably said 82 on the speedo at the time

Jack if you can afford it go R3. it will statistfy the power craving longer than a 125 will. I got bored of the low power of a 125 after a month so couldn't wait to save the money to do the A2 test

The size of the r3 vs r125 is probably not much. Few kg's 143kg vs 167kg

Depends on the situation. I think when the UK is concerned, 95% or more people will be fine with a 600.

Filling my 675 up is a daily event 😂

It comes down to two paths: 125cc to 500cc - enjoy the town's but not the motorways 500cc+ enjoy the motorways but not so much the towns

TheMininod an Xt600e. Kawasaki klx650 and the like are great around towns

my mt 07 does 60 mpg

125 is brilliant cost like nothing to operate but they are fast as nissan micra 1 litre so going beyond 60 mph is like mission. I have 1993 dr 650 and its just so nice to have more power than 125, yes some 125 "sport" bike go 75 but cmon they cost 5k pounds just fore 125cc bike

if you ride summat like a CB500X at 125 speeds you will get 75mpg. But "If" is a big word because you end up bombing along at 85 simply because you can.

If youre buying a 125 for long journeys you need your head checking

They have a max of 14bhp so not powerful no. However, they are fast enough for the UK roads.

Own a cg 125 cheap to run to work and back . If had a biker bike I would use it for trips out instead . Own a small bike to save money

It's great but if you need to use A roads, B roads and motorways then a 125cc is too slow and if you need to over dartford bridge or any slight hill you are definitely going to be putting yourself at risk and will be a hazard to life

So, you say, the best situation is to own a 125 for the weekends and a bigger bike for communiting. So best situation is woning two bikes.

I must admit I’m quite happy with my 125 ( 180cc ) vespa scooter, it does everything I need, but being my weekend toy it never goes near a motorway, and yes I do wave at motorcycles too : )

A 125cc. 4 stroke in most cases is not fast enough for de restricted roads especially up steep hills

it's highly unlikly that a 125 will last longer than 30 k miles

How about a 2 stroke 125cc?

Assuming you are on a CBT If it's legal it will have no more power than a 4t but will require a lot more maintenance. 2t is better suited for off road bikes where you don't hold steady revs for a long amount of time. Sure to some all the draw back are worth it for them but its not something I would advise.

Brew Star I'm only kidding, I personally hate everything about 2 strokes, I can't imagine how slow a 90cc 4 stroke would be though. A 0-60 time of "maybe".

viscarrio My 125 has done over 300000 miles and it's pretty much at the end of its life now. I wouldn't expect a 90cc to even get half of my bike's mileage without issues. You'd be full throttle, max rpm everywhere - that can't be good for longevity.

Musa Malik i didnt say 125s arent good for long journeys, apparently theres a guy that lives near me has been round most of europe in one. But 90cc i doubt would live long doing max all the time. And it takes about 3 hours to do 150 miles so on a 90cc would be more like 5

Personally, no. really dont think a 125 is enough unless its a 2 stroke. just a few more horses such as a 200cc would be perfect as you can reach 70 but sit at 65 easily and have the power around town. Even just 20Hp would be better. still not enough to get into much trouble but enough to be comfortable on all roads

I think over21 you should be able to ride a 250 cc on cbt just to be able to keep up with traffic on busier A roads. Still keep the non motorway rule though

Ooooh Iiiiii Saaaaay du you mind not riding up my drive young Chappy on that Iron Horse(Big house owners thought's 😆😆😂😂.....I would really like a Harrier Jump Jet but it's too dam expensive and a 125 is a lot cheaper to run and keep your Licence.

I hate the mentality that the bigger the bike the better and the harder you are. Like, 1000cc+ how much of that are you using?! maybe 600cc at most. unless you're a fuck nut or on a trackday

Absolute rubbish. You clearly havent considered the huge difference in service schedules. My 900 that i commute 80 miles on daily, has a 10,000mile service interval. The longest service interval of current 125's is 3500 miles. If i rode a 125 for 80 miles every day, it would need a service every 44 days at most, and the big services come a lot sooner (valve clearance, plugs etc). DO some homework before you go spouting off inaccurate statements like this.
