Once they give a hint to fans that RDJ is coming back, they cant go back if contracts doesn't work out. in that case Disney would have to give a blank check to RDJ to fill in the amount. Tho i wish it happens and RDJ comes back,

It’s well known that he wasn’t ready to hang up the iron suit so it’s no surprise he’s wanting to come back. I can guarantee RDJ won’t return as Tony Stark except for possible flashback scenes and Fiege said that’s not going to happen. TS was my favorite MCU character so I would love for him to return.

In my heart, he never really left.

Robert Downey Jr.'s biggest competitor was himself. Playing Tony Stark/Iron Man was the perfect role for him and he did it so well, he basically type-casted himself. Tried for a while to show that he could play other characters outside of being Iron Man, but his other projects ended up being flops until Ophemheimer came along.

This is the best thing I've heard regarding the MCU since Hugh Jackman announced he was coming back. But with RDJ it's way more exciting to me for RDJ to return. He's been one of my favorite actors from way back in movies like Weird Science, Less than Zero etc. His redemption story coming back from Drug addiction to become Ironman and basically turning the MCU into the biggest movie franchise ever. I never could relate to people saying OMG it's going to ruin his sacrifice. He comes back as a variant and it's not effecting the Infinity Saga.

Iron man the strongest avenger

I totally understand and respect Downey Jr's desire to prove his acting chops. I don't think ANYONE can outact what he did in Oppenheimer. I sincerely hope he can return to the MCU. He left a HUGE hole that no one else can fill. While I agree that it may have been a poor choice to kill his character off in Endgame, the comics media has always lent itself to time loops and inter-dimensional trips or parallel universes or whatever else is needed to keep beloved characters in play. They will find a way, and hopefully end up with a Win-Win. Incidentally, I can hardly wait to see Captain America IV. I always loved the Sam Wilson character in the comics. I also love to see true succession take place in the super hero world. Comics for decades typically just roll on assuming the heroes are frozen at a certain age. I think it is really cool to acknowledge the passage of time and the need for succession. How would the Batman story have gone if Bruce Wayne had allowed for the mature Dick Grayson to take over the Batman role? You can look to many stories with a similar eye and see how succession could really work for continuity. And there are a lot of deeply felt emotions that go with all of that. That could work well in the movies, and I hope they do this kind of thing more often. We really need a return of real heroes in great strong, moving stories to help our culture get off the line and moving in a more positive direction.

I always thought that the Iron Man comic book was one of the most boring comic books ever made. In fact, I remember declaring, when I was in the 5th grade, that Iron Man and Captain America are the absolute worst comic books ever. Then, years later, I heard that Robert Downey Jr had just won the role of an upcoming Iron Man project, and I thought that it was the best idea ever. All the years of hate I had for Iron Man since the early 80s changed within less than 2 seconds, all because of a mere announcement. I still won't read an Iron Man comic book, or Captain America, but both characters lead some of my favorite movies.

he's a good actor. while he was playing iron man tho he could only do similar type movies. where as since he left marvel he did several movies that took some commitment. i think he enjoyed playing iron man but hes obviously an actor who is not just iron man but he is Robert Downey Jr.

They could do more than just a cameo! I've had a theory since Endgame that his message at his funeral was more than that. The way he looked at Morgan when he said I love you 3000, there's no way he could have known where she was sitting. I'd love to have him have downloaded himself like Ultron (AI) somewhere so he can come back, still being Iron Man in a suit like all of the Marks in Iron Man 3!

RDJ was the perfect casting for Charlie Chaplin. It was an uncanny performance. It shows how good he is as an actor that he also carried off Sherlock Holmes to perfection and then Tony Stark/Iron Man. How can anyone question his ability as an actor when his (until now) final scene in the Avengers movies was one of the biggest tear jerkers in cinema history? You can't achieve that with a mediocre actor. I still baulk at the idea that anyone thought an also ran talent like Tom Cruise could take up the baton from RDJ. He doesn't have a micron of the personality that RDJ put into Stark. And let's face it, we've long since established an infinite MCU with many realities. We've had two Gamorras, two Nebulas and millions of Kangs. We can easily have a slightly older version of Tony make an appearance in Secret Wars (by the way the original Secret Wars is one of my all time favourite comic books series). And for those who think it waters down Iron Man's death, it doesn't. As with Gamorra we will all know this isn't the same Tony Stark.

The fact that many people often called RDJ 'Tony Stark', shows how good he was at being that fictional comic book character. Acting is acting whether it is a drama, historical or fiction epic, action etc. If the actor portrays a character well, then he deserves all the credit. Hope the MCU brings back the OG Avengers for the fans as well as to save themselves..

I feel dat as an actor he's a classic gifted man, yet dey felt he's too 'cocky', hence he went off da track and nearly wrecked himself, but one thing he shows dem, is dat he NEVER quits, so huge well done on his Oscar, and rightly should've gotten way back as he's totally gifted and mega- talented. 👏🏿👏🏿💯🇯🇲

RDJ has been an exceptional actor as long as I can recall. The first movie I remember seeing him in is one of my favorite movies, well ever in _"Less than Zero"_ where he was incredible. I even liked the lame ass movie he did with Molly Ringwald. _"The Pick-up Artist"_ or something to that effect. He was even good in _"Tropic Thunder"_ which, though I personally didn't find it as funny as most, thought he was an absolute riot and portrayed a method actor portraying a black soldier then accidentally getting so deep into character he thought he was a struggling black oppressed bad ass black dude in War torn wtv better than pretty much anyone I can think of...of course I can't recall anyone in modern history taking such a role, but darnit if he didn't pull off what they were going for. He just seemed to go through the ups and down of the majority of actors who _"Made It"_ in their middle to late teens in Hollywood. From Charlie Sheen to Rob Lowe to Johnny Depp to River Phoenix and Corey Haim. Luckily he avoided the whole overdosing and dying part unlike the latter two. He's always been a great actor, and unlike sports, barring a severe decline in mental faculties, it's not a skill that gets worse with time. In fact, it is typically just the opposite. Can he save the MCU though? Absolutely not. It's still on the writers and directors to produce the content that appeal to the masses, which they were great at for...9 years or so I suppose, until they fell off this cliff of trying to appeal to the _"regular"_ people by using hero mantles and getting the minority of people...the tiny, tiny minority of people who like queer tmblr or female empowerment novels whom were not already fans to fall in line and add their numbers to the old fans. Except the old fans, for the most part, at best thought _"Well this isn't very good anymore, I'll move on to the next big thing."_ while the super fans (probably 30-40% of the audience) absolutely *DESPISED* what Feige and the rest of the people at Disney who seemed to be going crazy were producing. If they pump out more of _"The Marvels"_ or _"She-Hulk"_ types of writing in their media, RDJ or not, that 30-40% of "super" fans will bitch and moan about it while not spending a nickle on any of their garbage. The remaining 60-70% of the old fans will probably give it *1* shot before going back to "Yellowstone", "House of the Dragon" or _"Firefly"_ re-runs on DVD.

Eh not really. If someone else showed up as Steve or thor, people wouldn’t have it. Even replacing Steve with Sam is being poorly received.

great news if they properly handle RDJ's return. One thing with comics you can pretty much count on is that no one is ever dead and gone. They can be dead but reappear in flashbacks or as duplicates, they can be dead and supposedly never to return (Jean Gray and Phoenix comes to mind after watching Chris Claremont's documentary) but no one in the comics stays dead. I'd love to see RDJ return whether as an alternate world version or an AI or however as long as its handled well.
