    Great reaction! I think this movie got more love from people who are *not* comic book fans. In the comics, The Mandarin is long time main villain against Iron Man and he wore rings on each finger, each ring had a different (basically magic) power. Thus since Iron Man 1, the people who kidnapped him are "The Ten Rings" terrorist group. All of us long time fans knew exactly who that meant. So when this film debuted, we were all looking forward to at last the showdown between Iron Man and The Mandarin. And instead it was the Extremis story line and the Mandarin was just a British actor named Trevor Slattery. A lot of fans were disappointed. However for those who had no such expectations it was a great film. Personally I got over my disappointment with that part of the story and now just enjoy it for what it was, a terrific film with amazing acting by RDJ. Loved seeing how Tony Stark could still be a badass without the suit.

    Same. At first, I hated that the Mandarin (Ironman's arch nemesis in the comics) was just a cover story for some other character in this movie. However, this movie has held up over time and the character of Trevor Slattery has grown on me.

    I love the Tony/Bruce bromance so much. Two brainiacs just geeking out-Tony & Bruce mind meld over all things cerebral, Tony goosing Bruce to see if he would turn & Bruce goes ow! then laughs, Bruce actually took blueberries from Tony…ab 100 more? They’re adorable.🤭🤘

    A fun Easter Egg to Look out for During Phase Two is that in every movie someone gets an arm chopped off. It is a backwards reference to "The Empire Strikes back" the second movie in the Star Wars Saga.

    By the time we get to Iron Man 3 there are 42 different mark suits. 😮 The Ten Rings were referenced in the first movie. One of the Ring's terrorist cells was the one who kidnapped and was hired to kill Tony. The Ten Rings are led by The Mandarin. In the comics The Mandarin is one of Tony's nemesis.

    What you see in this one if you havn't figured it out yet, every time Tony made a new suit it was with upgrades on things he learned that he needed. The Mark I crashed after flight, so Mark II was the flight model, Mark III was an upgrade with that satellite material to 'avoid the icing problem' (Iron Man), Mark IV 'suitcase' was designed to have his suit to be portable, Mark V used the 'modified core' (Iron Man 2), The Mark VII armor was a pure combat model (The Avengers). And at this point we see Tony with the Mark 42, every model before that was created with a specific purpose.... Work in space, underwater, heavy lifting, stealth, radiation, etc and supposedly the Mark 42 was his test for combining all those abilities into one suit. (Iron Man 3) The Vacuum suit (Space capable) was created because he wasn't protected when he put that nuke through the portal in The Avengers, he passed out and could have died from lack of oxygen, that's part of where the anxiety attacks came from in Iron Man 3

    A second into the episode, you thanked me for being here. I will respond with.. thank you for having me. Ty and Katie, I love y’all. As someone that deals with PTSD, this movie delves deeply into that effect on heroes. Tony displays it clearly - Robert Downey Jr. is such a powerful actor. He can show so much emotion in such a small time. There were a lot of viewers angry about the fact that Tony always has his suit. This movie was a response to the haters - it shows them that Tony is a hero without the suit, while dealing with bare-bone human emotions. He faces everything about himself here. I wish more people on your comment sections knew more trivia. Will you be skipping Daredevil? It’s a TV show with 13 episodes per season - 3 seasons - set in the MCU and it takes place after Avengers.

    So. I love the action and humor, and there's a lot of that, but I think what makes me say that these Marvel movies (most anyway) are really great is the drama and trauma of them. What can I say, I'm a sucker for the angst. *lol* But really, when I feel the roller coaster of emotions and realise how much I care about these characters... and not only the main character but the side characters too.... yeah, that's what makes a great movie to me.

    The "Tony learns from his mistakes" has become a whole thing when commenting on any Iron Man stuff. It's also spread to other characters. So any time you see "because (so and so) learns from their mistakes" it's like a long ongoing inside joke, lol.

    I don't see anybody talking about this. But this movie was the ending of Robert Downey Jr's Original contract with Marvel. So the way they ended this movie was just in case the actor never came back, luckily they were able to work out a new contract and he continued to appear in future movies. There are actually a lot of weird writing decisions in the MCU as a result of Not knowing whether certain characters will be back, because of actor contracts, or specifically the Marvel / Sony collaboration.

    The suits that come in at the end are part of the Iron Legion, all of the different classifications that Tony has built for different specific purposes. For example, the Mk XVII "Heartbreaker" had an oversized chest-mounted RT that was meant for artillery level energy blasts. The Mk XXV "Striker" was built to assist in construction projects and was equipped with twin pneumatic jackhammers. The Mk XXXV "Red Snapper" had twin extendable/retractable claws used for rescuing people from the aftermath of natural disasters such as earthquakes and hurricanes. The Mk XXXVIII "Igor" was notable for its durability and brute strength, in addition to pneumatic lockable pistons in its legs and back that made it specialized for heavy lifting, and could support a building structure on its back if necessary. Sadly, all of these were destroyed by the Clean Slate Protocol, and Tony went on to develop the second iteration of the Iron Legion, autonomous robots (not suits) controlled by JARVIS used for peacekeeping and public safety missions. Tony did eventually end up building Pepper her own suit in the comics, the Rescue Armor The Mandarin in the comics was also a VERY racist stereotype, which obviously would not have flown for this film. The reason Tony was freaking out was that he'd seen that there were things out there much, much more powerful than he could have imagined; the Chitauri army, Thor and Loki, etc., things he hadn't factored into his calculation of the world. Like he said, he's just a man in a can, which is why he focused on creating the Iron Legion, trying to perfect his designs to take those factors into account, and then when he was by himself, alone in Tennessee without even his newest suit to aid him, he thought this is it, this is where it ends. But then Harley reminded him of his true strength. "Just build something". And in the course of confronting the Mandarin and rescuing the President, he learned that even without all of his gadgets and armor suits, he IS Iron Man, and no one can deny him that. He regained his self-confidence and became a better man for it.

    7:50 The real funny thing about Tony saying this to the kid is the fact that the guy who played REAL kid from "A Christmas Story" is in the FIRST "Iron Man" film. He's the guy that Obidiah (probably spelled wrong lol) yells at "Tony Stark built it in a cave...using scraps!!" and the guy replies "I'm not Tony Stark."

  • @robert___t

    @robert___t

    Yep. Peter Billingsley is the actor's name (played Ralphie in Christmas Story, and the scientist helping Obediah in Iron Man 1). He's in Iron Man because IRL he's a close friend of Iron Man 1's director, Jon Favreau (who is Happy Hogan as well). It makes the Christmas Story reference in the third movie a very sly, and clever, callback!

    What if…? In an alternate continuity that will affect the MCU… Ben Kingsley is the real Mandarin - reimagined by myself as a Hindu Singaporean militarism extremist who has been the main orchestrator of the entire Iron Man trilogy, sporting the same attire, hairdo, beard and even having a dragon tattoo from left clavicle, around and down to the right back hip of his chiselled muscular physique that lights up when super Saiyan’d up - and the characters Aldrich Killian (Guy Pearce) and Xu Wenwu (Tony Leong) from Shang-Chi were his protégés - next in line to adopt the mantle to further spread his iron plague - similar to Hitler, Stalin, Mussolini, Bin Laden, Jinping, Putin etc And to further extent, similar to Heath Ledger’s Joker, have him stand out as force of nature, never to be reckoned with. His past his unknown (real name) and he considers himself as a true civil servant (mandarin). That is what the MCU could’ve ended up with. Imagine the Kingsley Mandarin working with Thanos (Josh Brolin)!!! Those two have similar agendas/mindsets - imagine all of the chaos and carnage throughout the infinite world…and other multiverses… P.S. reason why Kinglsey’s Mandarin would sound American while speaking English in contrast to sounding Asian when speaking his native Singaporean, Mongolian and/or Chinese he might’ve learned it from some radical far-right extremist from America who can also speak Asian languages

    Here are some fun facts about the Iron Man movies. The Iron Man movies all the only movies in the MCU that are numbered. Also it wasn't Iron Man who actually defeated his enemy in every movie it was pepper. She's the one who killed Obadiah using the Arc reactor in the Stark factory. She's the one who had Justin Hammer arrested and yes he was the main villain of that movie whiplash was a secondary villain who was defeated in the second act of the film in wouldn't have been a threat later if it wasn't for the main annoying villain hammer. Not to mention it took war machine and Iron Man to beat him. In Iron Man 3 Aldrich Killian is the Mandarin who pepper definitely killed. There is a marvelous one shot short film called all hail the king featuring Trevor Slattery where he admits he stole the Mandarin name and the 10 Rings organization name from a real person. Tony fix peppers extremist problem.

    Tony: Please tell me there's not a 12 year old kid in that car that I don't know about. Mya: He's 13 Tony: dumbfounded look This short little exchange would end up representing one of the biggest debates in MCU chronology. Did this movie take place Christmas of 2012 after what happened in New York or Christmas 2013 a year and a half after New York. Marvel finally settled the debate in the timeline book that this is in Christmas of 2013, which means that this movie actually takes place after Thor: the Dark World. A lot of us really thought it made more sense to be Christmas of 2012, but I guess that's just not the case.
