I guess the original arrangement that PTX sent Dolly they had her doing all the verses, but she insisted that the group take the lead on one of the verses. Love her!

I was happy when I heard he moved there. It sounds like the town I grew up in outside New York City, Westport, Connecticut. We had actors and writers though instead of musicians and enough of them that everybody just treated each other as run of the mill town residents. Our most famous ones were Paul Newman and his wife Joanne Woodward well and Betty Davis but she was very reclusive.

I have watched this a few times, and each time Kevin doing his thing hits me. It's official, I am never going to get used to a beatboxer extraordinaire beatboxing to a country song. Yup, that is another one of my sterotypes laid to rest by PTX. On a side note, I saw Dolly live a few years ago and I was blown away. Not just by her voice and energy on stage, but by the fact that she plays 11 instruments proficiently.

That's why Dolly won around her 100th Grammy for this (OK, truth is only her 8th but she's been nominated an unbelievable 49 times) and Pentatonix their 3rd Grammy.

Two favourites together, couldn’t go wrong could they. 😅😅😅❤❤❤

Dolly is I think 72 years old in this video. 72 and she still keeps up with the best vocal group in the world right now. They are amazing. And she's amazing. And yes, she looks amazing too. I hope I look that good in 20-ish years from now.

they are like a horn section, there's bass, baritone, tenor, alto, and soprano. they all known the interval of the chord because of where they sing in the scale. so, one always has the 1st, 3rd, 5th, and lead tone. It 's a well organized vocal section. All lead singers too! You're right, that's perfection.

Oh, wow! I am amazed by this video. Dolly, having some years on her, still looks and SOUNDS incredible!! I'm not taking away from PTX but, she is a show stopper as well. Keep up the outstanding work PTX and you, too, Barry!

Dolly is one of my favorite country singers. I grew up listening to her. And I have followed Pentatonix since the beginning. So to have them do a song with Dolly is just heaven! Their voices work so well together. I love the way they back her up and then do a section the Pentatonix way. This song is too short so I’m glad you play it twice!

Dolly is a country legend, Barry. A real southern belle from Tennessee. She had hit after hit throughout the years. (My mom was a big fan) So many songs you need to hear. Where do we start? She had a hit w/Kenny Rogers "Islands in the Stream" Excellent. A number one hit. She wrote "I will always love you", and I think it is just as good as Whitney sung it. Beautiful. (Dolly was famous for writing love songs, be it break up or falling in love kinda songs) Oh, a good one. "Romeo". That could be your theme song, Barry. It came out in the 90s when Billy Ray Cyrus was the new hunk in country music. The video was so fun. "Coat of many colors" is a classic. (She liked to sing about God) "Why'd you come in here looking like that" It was a hit. So many, Barry. This is only a beginning. Think you could handle it? It's a rabbit hole. 🐇 PS. Forgot one. "You are" Such a beautiful song.

Thank you for reacting to this one - a short but very sweet cover that won them all a Grammy. So many little nuggets about this performance! Originally Pentatonix had prepared to be Dolly's backing group as far as the performance went, but Dolly - like the queen she is - said "nope, you guys need to have your moment in this song as well!" And Dolly was also delighted by Avi's deep bass voice, and had great fun after the performance listening to him hit some super-low notes. Mitch is bald in this video because he'd been dyeing his hair many colours in rapid succession in the weeks/months before then, and was unhappy at how it was destroying it, so he shaved it all off a few days prior in a Superfruit video with Scott.

Ya know, Barry, she wrote this song partly from a woman that flirted w/ her husband, and from a little girl at one of her concerts that had the most beautiful red hair. She asked her name? It was Jolene. Some inspirations are small, some are large, but they always make an impression on us.
