First Time Reaction Pentatonix & Dolly Parton "Jolene" ... More Like WHOA-LENE

Музыка

Welcome to Just Jen Reactions! Today's Reaction Video is that of EPIC proportions!!! PTX meets Dolly Parton!!! ‪@PTXofficial‬ is an a cappella band that has taken the world by storm. Their harmonization is bar none. This one is special, because they sing the world famous song "Jolene" arguably one of Dolly Parton's most well-known songs!!! This song, a track on her 13th studio album that landed in the number-one spot on the charts in 1974, is her most popular by far!
===========================================================
The REAL story of "Jolene" as told by Dolly Parton in Good Housekeeping magazine:
"One night, I was on stage, and there was this beautiful little girl - she was probably eight years old at the time," Dolly told the outlet. "And she had this beautiful red hair, this beautiful skin, these beautiful green eyes, and she was looking up at me, holding, you know, for an autograph. I said, 'Well, you're the prettiest little thing I ever saw. So what is your name?' And she said, 'Jolene.' And I said, 'Jolene. Jolene. Jolene. Jolene.' I said, 'That is pretty. That sounds like a song. I'm going to write a song about that.'" Lo and behold, she did just that. But while Dolly may have used the girl's name for her new song, she drew further inspiration from her own life story. Soon after Dolly married her husband Carl Dean in 1966, an attractive red-headed bank teller supposedly began flirting with him. This didn't sit well with Dolly and prompted her to write out her feelings.
Independent reports Dolly saying at a Glastonbury concert in the U.K.: "I wrote that [song] years ago when my husband … was spending a little more time with Jolene than I thought he should be. I put a stop to that. I got rid of that redhead woman in a hurry ... Had it not been for that woman I would never have written 'Jolene' and I wouldn't have made all that money, so thank you, Jolene."

Pentatonix helped Dolly break a record with this one. Dolly became the first artist to ever land a top 20 hit on Billboard’s “Hot Country Songs” chart in each decade since 1969. Jolene got it's first Grammy after this collaboration and PTX got their third! Great reaction, thanks! 🙏🏾

I'm 46 years old I've heard of Dolly Parton and listen to her my whole life one of the things that people like to say about her is that she only made her way because of her chest and her behind. I disagree wholeheartedly this woman made her way because of the light inside her soul who she is deep down and she never betrayed it ever it's almost like she's got a bit of sunshine in her heart and she shares it with us it's amazing and I thank her for it and I always will

Dolly released this song in 1973. She wrote this song the same night she wrote I Will Always Love You, that Whitney would cover almost 20 years later. Jolene came from a little red haired girl Dolly met at a concert and she thought her name was pretty and she combined that with her husband teasing her about a bank teller flirting with him at the bank, and as Dolly said, I know we ain't got that much money to spending that much time down at the bank. Carl Dean didn't cheat on her, it was just teasing Dolly about a woman being a flirt with him.

And this was also the third Grammy for Pentatonix as well. Their first two were for Daft Punk Medley and Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairies. If you want a shock, there is a group that, on AGT did an "update" to Jolene called You Can Have Him Jolene. Look up the song. I should mention that Dolly loved the song and said so publicly. The group is Chapel Hart. And Loretta Lynn also said it was great and welcomed them to try the same with one of her songs. You should check it out.

I have an 18 month old granddaughter who LOVES Jolene or as she calls it " JOWEEN ". She doesn't like this version only the original version, but we have to listen to it at least 5-10 times a night. There is a version of Jolene, but it's called " You can have him Jolene " it's by an act from America's Got Talent. Dolly's husband was approached by a woman who worked at their bank named Jolene. It's a real person.

Dolly has composed over 5,000 songs throughout her career. The total number of individual song titles she has recorded and released is 956, totaling over 1,100 individual recordings when studio recordings, remixes, and live tracks are combined. She's so gifted she truly made up this song & many think it's real. She met a little girl so pretty with red hair & loved her name. She thought up the song to remember the girl & her name. The song "I Will Always Love You" is not a romantic breakup song. She sang & did duets with Porter Wagoner. She decided she wanted to go off on her own & do her individual career. This was the song she sang about that professional breakup. It wasn't a romantic one. In fact on her own TV show it was the end theme song of the show every episode. She absolutely didn't care that Whitney put a twist on the song she wrote. She still got a lot of royalties making $. Whitney exploded with that song & so did she having written it.

This song isn't about Dolly's husband. Carl is a very private man who wants to stay out of the limelight. He has his own construction company and from what she says they both are very happy Dolly was born dirt poor and has never forgotten where she came from. When they had a major fire in the Smoky Mt. national park a few years ago and people who had lost their jobs and their shops she donated a ton of money to help them get back on their feet.

See, I was just the opposite. I had no fear at all that Dolly would be overpowered or overshadowed by Pentatonix. Two reasons: 1) Nobody puts Dolly in a corner. She's the world's sweetest-natured hurricane. 2) PTX wouldn't do it even if they could. They're in total awe of her. SO, my worry was not that they would overpower HER, but rather that her power would reduce them to a mere backup band. But I should have known she wouldn't allow that. As others have commented previously, PTX was perfectly content--privileged, in fact--to just be on the same stage with her. But she insisted on switching roles for one verse--and even then, she was still very much present. This is how collaborations should always be.

Awesome video, Dolly at her best, Pentatonix showing respect! Hey Jen, just chill, Dolly's husband has been a faithful supporter of his wife for many many years. The girl in the bank was about 6ft tall, with long legs, Dolly being rather short felt threatened... Ironically, back in 2018, Angelina Jordan sang this song, herself being 6ft tall and long legs, Jolene would have been no competition, but she still sang that song real well...

You need to do a reaction to the version of this song where they just slow it down....it is literally like a completely different song and experience

Gorgeous lady, anyone who cheated, cheated on themselves by throwing away something valuable. Hope no more time and emotion was wasted on someone who didn't deserve it.

The reason why a lot of videos don’t get likes is because a lot of ppl aren’t signed into YT/Google. They’re surfing it in guest mode. It won’t allow someone to like a video without signing up or signing in. I’ve done it before while on Safari, pull up a video on the browser instead of the app and can’t like without signing in. So, unfortunately, that video doesn’t get a like because it will take me an extra 15-20 seconds to sign in. Terrible, I know.

You should look up Miley Cyrus' version of Jolene (pre-bleached blond Miley) In my opinion it ranks up there with the original and this version.

Great review, Jen, and I totally agree with your statements about cheating in a relationship. It's intolerable! However, I got a big laugh out of your comments. "The women in my family don't need a man!" Really? Well, my dear, apparently they did need a man or you wouldn't be alive and wouldn't have a family tree. LOL Keep up the great reviews.
