IR Spectroscopy

Well, this is weird. What are all these squiggles? Those peaks represent the wavelengths of infrared light that don't get to the detector, because there's some functional group in the sample absorbing them. Professor Dave busts out some dance moves in this one. Do the symmetric stretch!

    Depending on where you are Scientists may use the opposite. Here we invert it, instead of dips we use peaks. Otherwise it's the same

    It's 12:36am and I have my chem final at 9 tomorrow morning and I'd been flipping through my textbook and noticed IR spectroscopy, which I've never seen before, but which definitely will be on the final...so I'd just like to take this time to thank you for saving me about an hour of trying to understand this just from a textbook.
