I am surprised that the video was jerky on the XZ3, especially when Sony claims that the XZ3 camera has a 5 axis video stabilization.

He should do a comparison with the Xz2 premium not the xz3 that has virtually the same camera set up from the xz2. The Xz2 premium will blow that i phone away with its dual camera set up which the i phone has as well. The xz3 is a single lens, not the right comparison if you ask me. Still the xz3 beat it overall in day light photos while the i phone won overall in low light even though it was tighter in low light than it was in day light.

Love Sony xz3 forever

XZ3 single cam yet the cam performs like it has a dual cam set up. Definitely I'm with sony. I want true life and realistic shots. Sony was also able to prove that you don't need 2 cameras just to get the perfect shots..........a little more adjustments and sony could probably nail it

That dual cam set up on most phones (standard + tele) is not for taking better photos in general, it serves a particular purpose of portrait photos. I'm sure Sony will fall behind if he compares portrait shooting.

Colour production is better on Sony..That was clear from the flower shot and Matthew's standing shot at night. But in terms of video capturing iPhone is the winner here.

It's actually quite bad, I was surprised. Very muddy, not detailed, and not great dynamic range.

If the xz3 does not have the best camera then which one has it ?

I'm really surprised with the first night picture that the iPhone produces, it looks like a weird old picture or a filter above it. Overall I still prefer the XZ3, the colors it produces are so natural and unmatched. In low light it's really good too, but others can do better like the P20 Pro or XZ2 Premium

Matthew you are the best 💪💪 sometimes the Xs does some work sometimes it's the XZ3, the only thing that Xs does better is the light thanks to the opening it has because the XZ3 has an aperture of 2.0 but I admit that both are better. there are scenes that the Xs wins there are scenes that it is the XZ3.

Matthew I love your channel. I love that you test many different devices in real life. Just a little thought - when you test video performance, it's also good to compare 1080p. It's a very popular and useful resolution, and devices like XZ3 do miracles on 1080p. Best!

You clearly don't know what dynamic range is since you said it's better on the Sony but it crushed the shadows back on the first pic. Sony also adds a strange effect on a blurred background, which is visible on some of the photos. But I gotta say, the video on the Sony looks better. Apple has added a lot of sharpening and it doesn't look that organic. But on the rear facing camera, Sony has even more aggressive skin softening happening and its stabilization isn't as good.

Really tired of reading comments saying "and only with a single lens!". If he was zooming at x2 times the Iphone XS would have the advantage due to the secondary lens. In most point and shoot photos the extra lens isn't used. Most extra lens on phones are there to support the main lens not to be used all the time...

Just 2x?? I want at least 3x, heck even 5x optical zoom! Digital crop is enough for 2x, especially since the XZ3 has a higher resolution to begin with. And how about using those telephoto lenses at night?? Oh wait, they actually don't work! Wow!

Lol then get a Mate 20 Pro?? You don't buy Iphones for its zooming capabilities that is more of a bonus feature. Besides, my whole point is that people are being disingenuous that any phone that has more than 1 lens has to be twice as good as a single camera phone which is absolutely ridiculous. The extra cameras are always there as support for the main sensor because unlike DSLRs you can't just add a lens onto the main sensor. So this is the way phone manufacturer got around that limitation. And please, you can see in the video that the Iphone has more detail so using digital zoom on the XZ3 vs. optical zoom on the Iphone would be an easy win for the Iphone. I much prefer the pictures on the XZ3 pictures but they are not meant to be "pixel peeped" or zoomed in because then they don't look as good.

Johnny Since I love how you manage to complain about the telephoto lens and make it seem like a bad feature. A digital crop never beats an actual telephoto lens. There have been countless comparisons that you can check out for yourself.

+KaizerFaith According to what you are suggesting, the P20 pro and LG v40 with their 3 back cameras would be rather useless. I disagree though. I find have more options always better than having less options.

What's that have to do with anything? All phones take pictures with the main camera. Having a single camera is only a disadvantage when zooming in (telephoto lens) or zooming out (wide angle lens). That's the reason why you add more cameras to do specialized things the main lens can't do.

Yeah. I also wish for Sony to put OIS on future XZ. Also that monochorome sensor. Have u seen the night shot on the XZ2 Premium? If OIS is implemented on future XZ series. It would help low light shot just as much as that second lens.

i think that on most of the shots that looked better on the XZ3 I could just increase the contrast on the iPhone and get similar results, but is a step more 🙃. The XZ3 looks really good right after taking the shot and has better colors (more true to life). The iPhone has better HDR and video. Both of these cameras are great, I think anyone would be really happy with either one of them. BTW, I don't know why, but the front facing video on the XZ3 looked out of focus (or something else)🤔

Thanks for the comparison. One thing though. It appears to me you are a bit confused about what dynamic range means. On the first picture you say that the XZ3 has better dynamic range. But you then go on to show that when you zoom in and look at the shadow part of the image, the iPhone shows much more detail. Guess what? That means it has better dynamic range, not less dynamic range. Having more contrast in a image is not the same as having more dynamic range.

@2:48 Here you point out that the iPhone image has better shadow detail. You then say that the exposure on the Sony is not as good, because the light is blown out. But you've already pointed at the lack of shadow detail in the Sony image. The reason for this is *not* incorrect exposure. Both phones have exposed the image properly to their ability. *But* the iPhone image has more shadow detail and doesn't blow out the light because of its HDR mode having *better dynamic range* . My advice to you would be to look up and use the correct terminology in your reviews, it will make your reviews more professional.

I wouldn't know how the colors really look on each phones' screens. AFAIK both phones have different screen calibration. and now I'm watching this on my desktop monitor which I believe has its own calibration based on my preferred settings.
