It's funny how tech reviewers still complain about fingerprint scanner placement. I'm glad I only use ONE phone 📱, it's muscle memory and your finger will automatically hit the right spot. And I have a Note 8. If your using multiple phones every other month like most tech reviews and then it will be a problem. The avg person won't have that problem.

I have an XZ2 and their centered fingerprint scanner makes some sense. it's easier to find in a pocket or on a desk IMO. if you're coming from a phone with it higher up, you'll get use to the placement. it's really no big deal. that being said, I liked it better when Sony had it on the side, built-in to the power button. :)

actually Sony has never given a reason. lots of speculation it was patents (HP also has one) or more likely, contract with a U.S. carrier for exclusivity on the function.

The XZ3 has bigger bezels Simply because of the front facing speakers, and I find this setup better for media consumption, which is one of the Sony strengths. Also, the Sony sensors are bigger than the Samsung ones: 1/2.3 inch compared to 1/2.55 inch for the Samsung, but the pixels are as you said smaller at 1.22 µm for the Sony and 1.4 µm for the Samsung.

I'd argue most of their originality is gone, especially after they downsized when the recession hit. It's to bad too, big Sony fan here, but before I buy something I try and I go out of my way to see what Sony has, and usually it's that much more expensive with a little less built in compared to comparative reputable brands.

Just because the note 9 has more RAM that doesn't mean it has better performance. RAM is not everything , software is what is important , Samsung's UI need more RAM to perform seamless, were the Sony doesn't need as much.

I had the xz2 for a month , my favorite phone after the pixel 2 xl , it's only let down by the camera . Otherwise the skin is near stock the display was great for an ips and the battery lasted all day.

Triluminous display is not new thing, i used to have that in my xperia z1, so sony needs to up their game, design and all is perfect they need to do something that catches the eye of the young people Few years ago cameras were really good and their water resistant phones attracted a few, but samsung and others upped their game and took the market by storm never letting others to come near them and always being a step ahead

I have the SONY XB950N1 headphones and XB80S wireless headphones. It's all the time I want to connect via bluetooth, especially while traveling +9000km to Vietnam as I do. I don't think I can ever own a phone without a 3.5mm jack. Just saying.

I agree. I've been loyal to the Xperia brand for the past 5 years but tbh the current crop of phones don't really cut it in the market - where's their innovation - be great if they could also add wearables to the range Xperia watch etc... The camera on my XZ has recently started taking an age to start up and the whole phone has gotten slugggish (just like my previous models did; maybe it;s a deisgn feature??)

Desolo Zantas it already has quick charge 3.0 when Samsung has only quick charge 2.0 previous gen. it is an Eis and Sony was the first to master the video black magic stabilisation with z5 and now they should improve it and bring it to the top. Also it has got 6gb ram versions out in many markets. So that’s where the problem is even Sony fans like you doesnt know these details. It’s because of poor marketing from Sony

Between the Note 9 and the Xperia XZ3, the phone of choice would be the Note 9. It's due to being equipped with a larger screen size, larger battery capacity, more internal memory for the base & maximum storage, dual camera setup, smaller screen bezels, own built in stylus and finally having it's own built in mobile payment system.

I'll prefer the xperia xz3, you know what note9 and xz3 are just the same processor in terms of snapdragon. So for me i don't need more feature cuz it may contribute more activities for the processor, and which will lead to a bad performance. And i believe that xz3 is cheaper than note9.

@Uzayr's Photography where in hardware terms is XZ3 better than Note 9? U12+ can eat this Sony phone for breakfast, plus it's cheaper. Note 9 is something both XZ3 and U12+ aren't. Perfectly rounded phone. Missing only great DAC and amp and wide angle to be the perfect phone. Lg G7 and S9s with on top Note 9 are the best phones in 2018.

845 with 4gb ram compared to most all other main flagships with 6gb plus smh. This isn't a beats it's just a normal 2018 smartphone...

Xz3 has a 6GB RAM variant too

Any idea who supplies the oled display on the xperia? Samsung or LG?

Is there a compact version of the xz3?

The xz3 looks great! Finally a proper bezel-less smartphone from Sony!.

I used to love Sony's design language which is very rectangular with straight lines. I once owned z1 z2 z3 z3c z5 x xperformance xzpremium and I never complained about their consistent design even though bezels were large because I thought they were unique and chic. Those days are gone. Now Sony's phones looks like HTC and me being fanboy is over. Shame.

the thing is you buy phones by it looks not the quality of it samsung not worth paying just for good design but bad phone

I have the XZ2 and I used it along side the Note 8 and I had no problems returning to the Note 8. I see this being the same way. Nice phone, but it's going to have to do something about that super slick, slip and slide body. I can't stand that. Or they could just put a case in the box with the phone.

update us does the xz3 lag like older sony phones? and how's the battery life

The Sony XZ3 lost its value for me once they ditched the headphone jack, I don't see any margin of comparison between the 2 devices, the note 9 is a complete package, and with the Sony XZ3, you have to make a lot of compromises unfortunately

Totally agreed! And that fp sensor placement...they're definitely crazy. Price will be close to Note 9 probably. There's something horribly wrong with Sony...they don't want to sell phones....and they can't make great phones.

@Navidd Britz HTC U12 + will last longer, has incomparably better camera than any Sony, will be more reliable and faster even. But who cares for U12+. Same goes for Sony which now has unmistakably HTC design...well it will have its destiny too. Samsung is really the only company in the world that can deliver hardware ppl actually want, need and use everyday. Software and UI are the other question, but hardware and features wise, all are cheap dilettants compare Samsung.

The xz3 should be about 800 us dollars. As for no audio jack i dont care. I love sony proprietary audio technology and that alot replaces the headphone jack for me

I keep waiting for XZ3 Premium. After watching this amazing XZ3 phone, I expected Premium series of XZ3 would be beyond expectations. Still on my XZ Premium, wait and see for the XZ3 Premium's launch and I'll change. Bravo Sony 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼

No other phone on the market can do what Note 9 can do! Notes are the most complete phone's there is! I can sign a pdf file and email it! No other phone be doing that! Samsung Dex basically making Samsung phones a walking computer in yo pocket. You can do power point presentations with a Note 9 and use the S-pen to change the slide! Any other phone have that capability? Nobody talks about the Bluetooth 5.0. You can hook two bluetooth speakers to the S8, S9, Note 8, and Note 9. Can any other phone hook up two bluetooth speakers and let them play simultaneously? And they're IP-68 proof.... p.s. please lemme know your findings 😂. I find the Note Line untouchable! Last but not least Samsung Pay!!!! Ever pay for something with yo phone. Just walk up to the card reader and Boom paid!!! Its like magic lol.
