This video has always prevented me from doing the back glass only replacement but I attempted it today with a heat gun and it was insanely easy, easier than replacing the entire housing and it took about 30 minutes total to remove all the old glass.

@@yaboiavery5986 if you’re attempting this on the iPhone 8 Plus I would recommend to disassemble the device first, take out logic board and other fragile components, otherwise really just keep the heat gun far away and avoid prying the glass, just try to slice the glue underneath

Love your videos, thank you! My back glass unfortunately broke, and it's chipping off on its own bit by bit. Like a scab, I may have helped it a bit along the way. I had seen this video long before, but scabs are scabs... I've got about 50% of the glass off and things have become stubborn. Mostly around the wireless charging bit, but about 40% of the glass is gone at the bottom as well. Any tips on doing a patch job so I don't have to go through the heat / cold treatment? Not too keen on getting a fancy laser either... (saw that new video, nice!) Thanks again for the awesome videos!!!

if your going to do this the easiest way is to take all of the components out of the phone to make sure they don't get damaged and then use a heathun and a exacto knife or other tool to remove the back glass depending on how much heat you use it's rather easy good luck

Ive been using cold method for years. Just use can of air upside down. I used this method on a google home when replacing the touch sensor on the top. It was very easy just freeze the item with the Canned air in liquid state and then gently flex the adhered surface and the touch came off so easy. And didn’t loose any stickiness. Bonus was no replacement sticky pad was needed to re adhere the touch pad.

RiP, grant. You did a lot of excellent things. Including teaching me about random crap past the point of your expiry.

Two years in and I just took off the protective case from my iPhone 8 Plus.... yup, a crack that had been on the backside for who knows how long... Not gonna try these methods for repair, but they surprised me that they work, and that they don’t damage the phones with the extreme temperatures..

Two guys with both amazing voices to listen to for hours at a time.

TheScavenger101 cutting away from your body is something you tell children that are first learning to use knives. Using your thumb like that to help stabilize what you're cutting gives you much more accuracy and control, though that's pretty much common sense. I personally would probably use a glove. I work in industrial automation electronics systems technology and engineering and I'm wondering how Apple could replace that in any way shape or form. They literally intentionally glue the entire back of the phone to the frame. My conclusion is... They don't. They just chuck you phone in the trash and send you a new one after transferring your data. Either that or they have a seriously precise machine controlled system to remove that adhesive. Screen repairs are a little easier a can be done which is why those are less expensive. Either way it's a little ridiculous.

European Confidence well let's look at it as cost vs profit. We know it doesn't cost them 1000 dollars to make that phone. The reality is it probably costs around 150 bucks each phone. 200 at the most. So they sell it to you initially and you give them an 850 dollar profit or so. Then you drop your phone and the back breaks. Well nobody else but Apple can fix it since it's impossible to repair. So you have to send it to Apple who charged 575 dollars to repair anything other than the screen. So Apple swaps the screen for that of another phone and sends it back to you and all the while profits another 425 dollars in profit again. Since after all the price of sending you an entire new phone to them is 150 bucks and this time they get to even save a little more by not sending a new screen. Screen repairs are the same. They charge the price of the entire manufacturing cost of the phone to swap screens.

Don’t think anyone will try this repair, but Zack makes a great point here. Apple is raking in the cash on glass repairs. Phone should have been made to affordably repair cracked glass of a glass phone.

I agree. I used to buy Iphones since i liked the simplistic design. But now after they first removed the headphone jack and now make it impossible to get a cheap repair if you have an accident and drop your phone which is something that is bound to happen i will just move on to android.

Tetrafluroethane is also used in compressed air can that are used for cleaning dust, which I have a fat stack of sitting around. My favourite things to do with it are, turning the can upside down to get the compressed liquid at the nozzle, and spraying it out. I've frozen pennies and made them slide across the table like an air hockey puck, I've also sprayed the stuff in plastic bottles, sealed the bottle, warmed it up with warm water and I basically have a homemade rocket whenever I open the lid because of the pressure gradient. I've also sprayed it directly on my hand to see how cold it is, and it never burnt me due to it's low specific heat capacity and the Leiden frost effect, but I have gotten a small rash when I mixed the stuff with water (Which turned into ice) and poured it on my hand. I've may or may not of frozen a couple spiders too.... I mean, apparently it's the least painful (and the most convenient) way to do it. Anyways, the stuff is amazing. It's basically like the more accessible version of liquid nitrogen, since pretty much nobody sells liquid nitrogen in the UK or online, but this stuff is pretty much everywhere, although a bit expensive. (The best price I found is £35/$50 for a pack of 12)

That stuff is a global warmer. It's banned in many countries already. I don't wanna be a drag, but using cans of it to have fun is pretty bad for the environment.
