Traditional Wing Chun Code of Conduct Remain disciplined - Conduct yourself ethically as a martial artist. Practice courtesy and righteousness - Serve the society and respect your elders. Love your fellow students - Be united and avoid conflicts. Limit your desires and pursuit of bodily pleasures - Preserve the proper spirit. Train diligently - Maintain your skills. Learn to develop spiritual tranquillity - Abstain from arguments and fights. Participate in society - Be moderate and gentle in your manners. Help the weak and the very young - Use martial skills for the good of humanity. Pass on the tradition - Preserve this Chinese art and rules of conduct.

What styles do you study and why do consider them more authentic or superior to wing chun? I'm not disputing what you say. I think wing chun and Yip Man are famous only because of Bruce Lee. If Bruce Lee were not so famous then wing chun would live in obscurity right now. There was nothing extraordinary about Yip Man's life compared to any other kung fu instructor in Hong Kong in the 60's. Nothing that was like in the Donnie Yen movies anyway. theScytheofGod So a marksman who has never been in combat cannot teach someone to fire a rifle? Some of the best coaches, trainers, instructors in the world were never in the top level of their competition. The Harlem Globetrotters have insane skill, but they would lose to a professional basketball team because they are not training and/or capable of being elite athletes who are bigger, stronger, faster. One of the best MMA fighters of all time, Anderson Silva, has trained in every conceivable martial art he could find, including Wing Chun, because the theories are sound, even at his level of elite athleticism. For example, Lyoto Machida does Shotokan karate, but that alone doesn't make him a great fighter. He is a great ATHLETE, the karate supplements his abilities. It's the INDIVIDUAL that makes themselves great, not the theories, techniques, or trainers.

A grate video of Ip Chun that has been shared with us but it still amazes me that there is so much negativity in the wing chun world! But all this slagging off and snagging of other lineages only seems to come from the new Sifu`s and their students... Why is this.. It dosnt really matter what line you come from - wing chun / wing tsun / ving tsun and so on. The matter is that this is a DOCUMENTARY showing people what wing chun is about, Iv seen so many different ones and no matter what style they are, hard / soft / fast / slow the video all ways seem to get butchered by negativity.......... Any way I enjoyed the vid.. Thanks

The whole "Lineage wars" thing in wing chun seems to stem from the fact that wing chun hasn't produced any proven fighters, so it's impossible to tell style or lineage is "legit". Wing chun practitioners can't validate their style with any substantial fighting ability, so lineage becomes really important for validation.

@@numberone-kb2kh Actually, Wing Chun is studied and practiced by police and military around the world. It's effective because of it's short strokes and defensive style. There are very practical uses of Wing chun, which includes balance and weight / center of gravity distribution. Center line defense (to all vital organs) by keep your joints along the center to deflect, entangle, and confront opponents. The fighting distance of Wing chun is abnormally close as seen with the dummy, this makes counters and long distance strikes completely nullified. The only problem with Wing Chun is to combat the grapling, and learning something like Jujitsu would help tremendously. Ip Ching here is showing the traditional form of Wing chun, which was also shown by his father Ip Man. This not a demonstration of strength or speed, but form to teach others the proper technique so students can practice the form so that it's muscle memory. Once the student graduates from dummies (although they keep practicing), they will learn Chi sao along with sparring to apply these muscle memory to real applications. You'll see in this demonstration the double arm technique, which is often used as a soft style block which allows to absorb punches or even kicks.

People can argue all day about the effectiveness and what "would" work in a fight as demonstrated by the comments above. However, am I the only one that noticed that this is a man that is probably into his 70's when this video was done?! Today he is in his 80's and he still works out with guys that are less than half his age!! That fact alone has something to say about whether or not this is a fantastic art. Most people are barely able to walk or function independently at that age let alone do what he is doing in this video!

No 89 y/o master would pick a fight with another. They don't get to be that old with bad attitudes unless they suffer from dementia. Age grooms dignity, respect and graciousness. Don't make your grandpa sound like a spoiled child to build your own ego! Ip Chun and your grandpa probably could've been great friends and had amazing fun together. Who cares who would win at that age? It would break my heart to watch two old men fight and breed war when they have so much social and technical wisdom to share between them! I'd rather watch them dance and blend their styles together. Don't let arrogance or fear make competition the more important principle of practice! We'll be lucky just to be practicing at that age. I learned a little Penchak Silat and the master was a rude ex-con who spoke ill of women and chain-smoked cigarettes. I tried to help him and he got insulted, kicking me out of the class. The male competitive instinct must be scaled down to a rather minor growth phase in our modern millennia because it's a poorly prioritized life strategy that is harming our whole planet. P.S. My condolences to you. I'm so sorry the Tsunami took your grandpa, another of the great masters - I'm sure! P.P.S. Remember that it's important to eat your vegetables. (I don't say this to sound condescending - food is very, very important and is real kung fu too, that is widely neglected. If you look into it, you'll learn that food has a lot to do with mood and attitude). God be with you!

One of the wonderful things about Wing Chun, is you don't have to be a physically strong person to learn or practice it. The movements & techniques it teaches are designed to generate devastating power with relatively little effort. Also, through the process of training you improve your physical health & dexterity. But you should try to find a good sifu who teaches the internal, chi kung aspects of the system.

Record once, I got him. Thanks! Pushing like it's nothing. The highest use of Chi is knowing when to push. If you're expert enough, you feel the fall coming and just have fun playing around like he is. Yep, Physics is awesome when you know where you stand.

In the first state of learning, many people may become bumtious, arrogant, pedant. In the next level, people become moderate and silent, because it turns out that they knows nothing . And in the final state, after many training and learning, they becomes masters. And a master never knows the origins of the his knowledge, he simply knows . Evereyone should tag oneself into the right level

ufff, how can you teach if you dont know how you learned? A teacher must know how he learned, and that other people may learn better with different methods. Otherwise, how can he teach anything?

I think the only person in his prime that could have made wing chun look apple in would be yip man himself. From the video of him just a week before he died he look like he was strong an able to kick ass, much respect to the grandmaster. RIP
