So basically, it's used to separate a group of devices from an other group, on the same network ???

My understanding is yes, the IP address separates your devices in your network and , outside your network. Like your house number separates your house from other houses.

@@eddiemattison7792 IP adress is what you are talking about.... subnetting is one more layer. separating your 1 IP adress ( designating your house/your network ) into multiple IP adress (sub IPs) so there's an other layer under it.

Yes. Think of it like your house address on the street. Everyone on your street is on your network. The mail brings a letter addressed to you based on the number and street name but they bring it specifically to you based on your address number.

-A Host is connected to the internet via a communication link (like an ethernet port). Its only possible to communicate via interfaces if the interface has IP Addresses. A portion of the IP Address is determined by the subnet Each host interface (port) and router interface (port) have IP address the same format.

Great video. How did you assign the multiple subnets? My linksys Velop doesn't appear to allow multiple subnets. is that a feature of the router? is that a feature of the switch?
