  Packet Filtering Firewall - Filters on basis of IP source and destination but not on basis of payload - comes inbuilt within routers - implemented at network layer Proxy / Application Layer Firewall - Hides client IP address from internet - they check the payload of the receiving packet hence slow - implemented at application layer
