First like this video and comment! This idea literally helped me just now. I got Invisalign and I found out one of my hooks was not attached anymore to my lower jaw after coming home from eating at a buffet, and my dental office is closed until Monday. I just wish I watched this video a few hours ago, but never late than never.

Got my trays and 4 lower metal buttons + 2 plastic canine buttons on Wednesday. Thursday one of the attachments fell off. On Friday I had 2 lower buttons on one side fall off, then woke up to another lower button on the other side loose in my mouth this morning - Saturday. I have an appointment with ortho on Monday.

There are a few reasons why elastics buttons fall off. One you place food in between the button and teeth durning eating and inadvertently break them off with out knowing. Also sometimes there is not enough room between the aligner and button and you bite down moving too much force on the button and break them off and or with out the aligner in the button was too close to the opposing tooth and you moved around enough and you broke them off. A lot of people think they were not glued on correctly, but usually this is not the case as if it could take an elastics one time it was strong enough. - good luck. Dr.P

@@PaulsonOrtho Thank you for your reply. Since Wednesday, I've only been getting the courage up to eat once a day, at dinner, and it's soft foods like rice or mac and cheese with shredded chicken. The lower tray, or should I say, my lower palate, is very narrow, and it takes some finagling to get the tray up as the orthodontic assistant showed me. She told me to push straight up on the outside, and there's very little 'wiggle room'. Today I tried lifting the lower tray up from my tongue-side, and it's coming out easier. I'm a teeth clencher, so not sure if that's a factor? Will see what the ortho says on Monday.

@@SaltieCat clenching your teeth can cause those buttons to break off for sure. make sure to tell them that if they can glue them as close to the gums as possible, it might help stay on better. But I’m sure they already know that. Usually around week three most people will field a lot more normal with their Aligners. Yes, pulling from the inside to the outside is a good way to take them off. think of pulling away from the attachments and not into and engage the attachments. You will get really good at it soon. @@PaulsonOrtho Had my appointment to have the 3 buttons reattached (90 minutes away). The tech said that them falling off is due to the crowns on my molars, and that I wasn't doing anything to cause them to come off. Came home, had a dinner of fettucine alfredo, ate very carefully, went to brush my teeth, and the 4th (original) button was gone. between leaving the ortho's office at 6:10 and brushing at 8 pm. I'm ready to deep six this adventure altogether.

@@SaltieCat Crowns are extremely hard to keep anything bonded to, the strength is not even close to how strong regular tooth structure can stick to. So much so when setting up our cases, we try to avoid using attachments or button for elastics on them. we make it work a different way by setting it up so the elastics buttons are on natural teeth or only use elastics slits or cutouts instead on the crowned teeth. I also try to avoid having attahcmets on the crowns as much as possible. Even if you doing braces instead, this is a problem with them staying on also. If you were my patient I would have you continue to wear your aligners and then look in to changing the tx plan to not include those on porcelain crowns. Good luck!

How can I bond/ glue a metal button to the tray if this happens again, my ortho is five hours away.

good question, ask your doctor on the phone first to make sure you are allowed, but you can use glue or heat it up and melt it in. but mostly you can just use the slit I showed on the video sine your only wearing the aligner for a week or two at a time.

Hey if my aligners don’t come with a slit, can I make one for rubber bands? Or place metal button

I scared to try this 😭 will one or two days matter?

One or two days of doing this before they put your button back on, is not gonna make any difference, and should be completely fine

Hi, please help...my button fell off and my next dentist appointment is 2 weeks later and there is no orthodontist or dentist near me who can fix it. Can I wear elastic like this at one side as other side hook is there.???

Some of my patients are able to wear the elastic on one side but it might not be good for all of them. I would just give your orthodontist a call and ask what they want to do

Thank you for the explanation. I had the same problem, my button fell off and doctor couldn’t attach it back: because it’s it attached to the crown. However left side is ok and attached to crown too. So my doctor made a cut with scissors where button is missing. I’m not 100% sure that I can continue like this permanently. It works, but I’m worried that it can pop up.They didn’t give me any other options, I feel like this is only temporary solution. Could you please give me a piece of advice on what to do about it?
