I lived on Willis Is for 6 months back in 1984. I was a Technical Officer and I spent 6 months there and I was one of 4 crew. I had a great time there and luckily, we all got on very well. We launched 4 weather baloons each day and performed surface observations.

You have to look at Rottnest Island, off the west coast of Western Australia, about 45 minutes boat ride from Perth. It's an awesome little Island with beautiful beaches, and amazing and unique animals including the Quokka the cutest little marsupials you'll ever see.

There's another, smaller island off Perth called Carnac Island where you're advised not to venture further in than the beach because it's very densely populated with tiger snakes. Word is that they're of a pretty gentle disposition though.

I came here to point this out. Rottnest Island is one of the best known islands in Australia, probably on par with Kangaroo Island. Philip Island near Melbourne is also another well known addition

I recently went to Phillip island (close to Melbourne) which has the world's smallest species of penguins and the rarest species of geese! You wouldn't know the geese are rare just by being there though since there's tons of them lol.

Moreton Island, Bribie Island and Stradbroke Island are the other 3 well known sand Islands in Queensland. Togethe with K'gari (Fraser) they are the four largest sand Islands in the world. Bribie is the only one connected by Bridge and the one with the largest population (approx 21 thousand per census) but they mostly live in the southern parts as the rest is national park. Lord Howe Island (off NSW coast) is also interesting. Very beautiful but only 400 people allowed to visit/be on the island at any time. Rottnest Island in Western Australia is another interesting one. Bruny Island , Tasmania And of the Whitsundays has a bunch of lovely Islands.

I lived and worked on Kangaroo Island for a few years back in the early days. Monday to Thursday was crushing the Yakka Gum (where the expression hard yakka came from) Friday/Saturday was shark fishing where we would go out in leaky bondwood dorys and net sharks. The hull of the boat was soft enough for me to dig my fingernails into and it leaked like a sieve. The sharks were often longer than the boat it self. Most of the sharks were in the 4 foot long range and the Skipper would beat them on the head with his home made mallet while i held onto the tail. I used to find a lot of (now rare) endangered Marsupial Mice in the Yakka trunks, since they stopped the harvesting of Yakka the Marsupial Mice population has dwindled. Yakka would be pushed over one year and then the next year you would go and split it, put pieces into a drum, then drum to an old war time Blitz flat bed truck, then to the home made crushing machine where a dry, brittle, hard gum resin would be bashed out of it. We also did Eucalyptus Leaf distilling, we made killer Eucalyptus Oil, very pure and all done with home made stills about 15 foot across, old land rovers as crane, the glass bottles to store the oil we scrounged from the local dump, no two bottles were ever the same! and I lived at the Kingscote Caravan Park.

You should have included the Cocos Islands that are southwest of Christmas Island in the Indian ocean. I've been there and they are Australia's own little version of the Maldives - absolutely stunningly beautiful. Home island is the home for the Cocos Malay people -- descendants of Malay copra workers brought there in the 19th century by the Clunies-Ross family , and West island is the home for all the other Australians that own small businesses or work for the Australian government.

Perhaps you skipped the day at primary school where they defined the words "continent" and "island"? These two words are mutually exclusive: A landmass is either a continent, or an island. Or, in the case of New Zealand - a sunken continent. From National Geographic: "An island is a body of land surrounded by water. Continents are also surrounded by water, but because they are so big, they are not considered islands." It is very strange a channel titled "The Geography Bible" should misuse these important geographic words.

Ive been to Norfolk, Flinders and Tasmania. All are stunningly beautiful and worth every moment you spend on them. I went to Norfolk to see where the auracaria heterophylla (Norfolk Island Pines) came from. Then I found so much more, what with the Bounty Mutineers being allowed to move there from Pitcairn after Britain abandoned the penal colony on Norfolk, the graveyard is full of the names Christian and Quintal and Adams. I was also on White Island in NZ prior to it blowing it's top and killing 20+ people.

I learnt some very interesting facts this week regarding Australia deadly animals. While it's true that Australia has the most venomous snakes, the difference between Aussie snakes and the rest of the world are. Australian snakes unlike the rest can't detect heat, their fangs are tiny like the size of a finger nail clipping, the rest have fangs as big as eagle talons. But this also means that you are less likely to know that you have been bitten because it will feel like a scratch it doesn't hurt.
