    The main reason for the demographic "hole" in Ukraine is not the war, but the collapse of the USSR and a sharp drop in the birth rate since 1992. It was a time when the population of Ukraine died every year by 500,000 more than it was born. If for the West the 1990s were an era of prosperity, then for the former USSR these were years of horror. We can say that the West flourished on the blood of Russia, Ukraine and other republics of the former USSR.

    I think lack of centenarians in Russia despite high population is due to inability to prove age correctly. For example, my greatgrandma, who was born in late 19th century (and died in 1980s as I remember), didn't know her true age. She was illiterate herself, and her documents and records were lost several times. Due to 2 world wars and civil war most records were lost in the country, so most centenarians just can't prove their age

  • @erynn9968

    @erynn9968

    9 ай бұрын

    Among all the reasons, the lack of knowledge contributes to the utter minority of cases. Also, please don't forget that Russia is not unique in the lack of records at that time. Even the most prosperous countries like Britain had folks in villages who didn't have their records. Not saying what happened in the rest of the world. Otherwise you could say that Africa lacks elderly because they didn't know their birth date XD (and some still don't btw - google Waris Dirie)
