Yes! I've also heard "Mummy has a good soul beneath it" and "No parent hates their child", even though they clearly showed signs of despise and hatered...and authors like Winnicot and others have written about mother's hatered of children. Some people have romanticized view of parents and put them on a pedestal.

It was my narcissistic, toxic psychiatrist who told me that and forced the expectation that I must maintain some kind of relationship with her. Same with the therapist I was seeing at the time of her death, " Oh, I'm sure you have inherited many good qualities of hers." What?? At the time, I was unable to make a case for that not being the case. Thank goodness for people like Patrick who post such highly educational material on the dynamics of abuse. I wasted a lot of time with really bad therapists.

@rachelstanger6079
12 күн бұрын
My theory is that people who don't understand were abused themselves and turned into enablers and/or abusers. Because it takes a severe and deliberate lack of empathy to listen to facts about horrific child abuse and then defend and deny on behalf of people you've never met to the face of the child who just told you they hurt them. And lack of empathy is something that I don't think someone raised by loving parents would have - especially when my Dad's defining characteristic was lack of empathy.

I just went no contact with someone who is a narcissist, gaslighting, button pushing, control freak, ass!!! In one of the phone calls, I said, "I'm not that person anymore. You'll never going to treat me like this again! I still have yet to cry an 18-year friendship gone, I told them this is your fault. You just can't seem to keep your mouth shut. OVER!!! I wouldn't have the tools I have so far without this channel. Thank you again, Patrick. I wouldn't have the ovaries to stand up and say, "NO MORE," and stick to it. I'm a bit aggressive these days. My voice was smashed as a kid, and omg, she's here. I feel that at times, I'm picking up the past and using today's voice to get through. SUPRISE!!!

SUPRISE!!!
You are actually very talented Doctor Patrick
Thank you Patrick. These are so relatable. And how is it that hearing the invalidation I've heard so often can bring a smile to my face when you put it to music like this. You're a genius.
Omg that was hilarious - the story of my life 😂🤣😂 That’s made me laugh so much 👍😁 Thank you Patrick! ❤
Best song ever 😂❤❤👍👍 Thank you
Remember that your parents talk to you like their parents talk to them like their parents talk to them

But we don't talk to our kids like that. We broke the cycle, they didn't which fine, I get it. Mine were very young having us (started at 19/20 yrs old and had 5 kids) But they're mid 60s now and OWN NOTHING they said or did even when we were all adults.

@@jenster29 are you taking this personally?
I’ve watched this about 5 times and it’s still making me laugh 😂 the dancing is the icing on the cake 🤣
Love this!
You look like Sean Penn with those sunnies! Love the slo mo floss 😆 🙌 How serendipitous that I should hear this just while drafting a msg to my overly controlling mother who I have been on the verge of no contact for five months. Thank youuuuuu!
I get screamed at. You're song is great! Too nice for my "mother".
LOVE. IT. THANKS!
God, I love that t-pain auto tune.
Yes! Great video!
I want a response music video... like a response video with literal responses to shut those comments down. My trusty standby is a chilly, "Not all families are safe." The buttinskies are thrown off their game, sense the dangerous waters, and scurry backwards out of that conversation they never intended to have. LOL
Shout out to my "mom" for going no contact with me when I asked her to go to therapy! (Then proceeded to break into my house, come to my place of work crying, bang on my door demanding to speak with me, and only left me alone after I had my husband talk to her. Couldn't listen to me or my boundaries down to our last interaction.)
DYING RN!!! 🤣🤣🤣💜 This made my day!
Fabulous❤
The dancing!🕺 ❤☺️
“well they raised your brother and not you so he’s their kid and not you.” …said a past former friend. 😔
Love you!!!!! great playful music and dance
If my child grew up and spoke of me the way I speak of my parents, I would feel like I had failed as a parent.

Exactly! 💯
A BANGER
What's worse is when your mom, who also suffered from your covert narcissistic dad, thinks that i shouldn't do no contact because "he's still your dad." Meanwhile, she can go no contact with the divorce, but I'm still made to pay for her choice of a life partner and father of her child because "he's still your dad." Yea, okay, mom. 🙄🤦♀️

That was great, thank you! 😂😂❤❤
i love this 😭😂
OMG! So funny! And I have been unconscious enough to have said stuff like this. Gawd. Thanks for your funniness and music. Healing needs more humor (and rock stars).
Indeed but very hard when you know some ugly bad seed/s infected you too. Now you don’t know what to do where to go as everyone has gone or you’ve given up on those who keep you stuck. Thanks 💙👊
Phenomenal! 🎉😂 on point.
Bravo 👏 😂 spot on 👌

Love your work 😍
Yas Patrick slay
Nailled it !!!
Hilarious 😂😂
Ah yes. The Family Mythology put to music. If I had a kid who was vowing at age 8 that he would never do to his own kids what was done to him? I would feel bad…and deservedly so. Part of why I fought so hard to get better is BECAUSE I didn’t want to pass the misery on to others.
My Mom said she would go to brother-in-laws Dad's funeral...now she's changed her mind
Excellent!
Woooo!🎉
Nup. Not going in my play list 😂. Love you bro 🤍🙏

Patrick and Hannibal Burress need to do an autotune duet
Your very childlike I think that inner child needs healing to catch up with the fact that you're an adult now. I don't think he s found his way there yet........
This is great hahahaha thanks for this
