Intuitive Abstract Painting with Watercolors & Mixed Media - 2024 - 4

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

It's hard for me to really connect rules to a process that flows more freely when there is nothing to hinder it. So, generally, I like to say there are no rules when it comes to creativity. However, this one rule, which can be applied to any area of life, can be especially helpful in the creative process. Is it something you're already applying to your process? If not, could you benefit from using it?

Hi Gabrielle 👋💖 I love icicles, fresh snow and watching the snowflakes fall from the sky! I really like the way you made the grid lines around the icicles. As soon as you came back from making those dark thick lines I couldn't believe what a huge difference in made! Really really cool! Ok, now you're adding the pearl and the gold 😍 I'm so glad you revisited this beautiful painting and shared it with us! A big obstacle for me is where to add the lines, how thick should they be, and how dark to make them, to get the contrast needed. Same problems when and where to use white. I hope all is well with you! Everytime we communicate it makes me smile ☺. Your sweet replies really warm my heart! I hope you have a blessed week, and happy creating! Love and hugs! 💖🤗

Hi Lori 🤗💕 Contrast can be tricky indeed! I like using the black and white photo trick to give me a better idea where to add my darkest and my lightest values - that usually helps me a ton! I'm glad I revisited this little painting as well. I rarely (if ever) throw out a painting and so it was good for me to cross paths with it again with fresh eyes. I really do love it way more now than I did back then (with my tired, I just moved eyes 😂). As you know, I really love my iridescent paints and I'm glad I gave myself a chance to play with that shimmery white again. I'm working on a big acrylic painting right now (one I also set aside for quite a while) and the touches of gold I've added to it are really making that painting come alive too. 🤩 It's amazing what a good painting session does for the soul, isn't it!? 💕 As always, thank you for your kind words sweet friend 🥰 Damien and I went for a short snowshoe around the woods by our house this morning and it is such a beautiful winter wonderland here right now. I think you'd appreciate it as well. ☺️ I hope life is treating you with extra kindness and love these days! Sending you great big virtual hugs and lots of love ❤️🤗

Oh boy. Rule #6 was exactly what I needed to hear. Yes, it's so simple and yet there's a profound shift in my brain the moment I embrace it. Thank you! I really like how these colours and the metallic pigments work together. Very dynamic with the shapes.

And every time I relax and give myself the space I need to explore, experiment, play and have fun, it just all comes together, in a way that almost feels magical ✨☺️ I'm glad I'm not alone on this! My husband introduced me to Dr Wayne Dyer through his books on cassette tape (I am dating myself). Yes to Rule #6! Love this painting and process. What I would love to have seen is you turning the painting upside down, then the background and foreground switch. I saw cold icicles over a stained glass window. This painting is brilliant.

❤️🤗 Hi Machelle!! I am so glad the idea of rule number 6 connected with you too! I think we have all been in that place of wanting approval from others and let's not forget that our society (or at least social media) really encourages us to seek that approval as well. I've had some pretty harsh criticism regarding my art come my way over the years and it definitely hurt. And then I reminded myself that what really matters is that I love what I do. And the people who feel a need to hurt us with their words, well, it's probably more a reflection on their own personal wounds than a reflection on our work. Here's to us appreciating our own work and loving ourselves because we are perfectly imperfect. I appreciate you making the time to connect with me in such a vulnerable, kind and loving way. 💕 I am blessed to be able to connect with you 🤗 I hope you have an awesome week too!

I had not heard of the author you mentioned but like the idea of rule 6! It helps to remember to laugh a little at ourselves when we get too serious and to zoom out to see the bigger picture. Hi Bernice, my sweet friend ❤️🤗 I connected with Wayne Dyer's books at a time in my life when I really needed a way to pick myself up off the ground. I still read them today and when I'm in my car, I love to listen to his audiobooks. His voice is soothing and I really connect with his teachings. I was lucky enough to hear him speak live 💕 once before he passed away. I consider him one of my angels. 💕✨ Laughing at ourselves when we are starting to get a little too serious and zooming out to see the big picture - YES!! It's not always easy to do, but oh how it helps when I can let loose and do it ☺️ I'm so glad you enjoyed this video! There's a link to a clip from Dr Dyer's book in my video description if you'd love to hear more about Rule 6 from Dr Dyer himself. ✨❤️ Lots of love heading your way xoxo

As I look at the painting, what I see is icicles on a stained glass surface. In other words, the “spaces” between the icicles look more like actual icicles to me, and the “icicles” remind me of a stained glass window. The painting is lovely.

Interestingly enough, I had meant to create my grid in the area in between my "stained glass icicles" and "mistakenly" created it on the icicles instead. I like to just go with the flow when stuff like that happens because you never know what will come next after these happy little accidents. Of course, my "happy accidents" are easier to interpret with rested eyes. 😂 I love stained glass and I love that this is what you are seeing. 🥰 Thank you for sharing!

Your work always blows my mind. I hope someday you have all your work in a gallery were everyone can enjoy them. I would love to be there.

I could watch you paint all day. Was that *Cobalt Teal that you used for the first wash? It isn’t listed above but I did want to know. It reacted so nicely to the salt.

❤️☺️!! I believe the paint I used for the first wash was actually Phtalo Turquoise (or a mix of this and some other blues). I got it straight from my palette because it was left over from another project. I often start my paintings with what is already on my palette so no paint gets wasted. It did react very well to the salt! That might have been a question of the paper more than anything else.
