I do like this training on intuit a lot! I have been taking the Coursera version and it is slower for my learning style, but I’ve had to supplement to really solidify the information. I’ve also been doing the Pro Advisor training and that has helped with the basics a lot. But I think more practice would be helpful in the training.

I have an Accounting degree and i took the course on Intuit Academy about a week ago. The exam is not for someone who has no experience in accounting so I wouldn't recommend taking the exam without first taking the course. I started taking the course before I realized I could just take the course. The course was fairly easy to me but I have recently finished my Accounting degree in 2021 and am currently in school for my masters. The platform change effected me because I took the course a week or so ago and literally found out I passed it today. Recommendations: Go through the training. Clear your browser for the test, the proctured exam is very sentive and will pick up any suspicious activity. Hope this helps...

Yes. All QBLive employees have to have their ProAdvisor designation. Assuming you know QBO and just need to move through the PA cert test quickly, I recommend the Fast And Easy QBO course. I have interviewed her several times and she makes sure you can succeed at the test. Now, you still have to actually know QBO to be a good bookkeeper. This is my affiliate link to her course. www.fastandeasyqbo.com/Kate (I always disclose aff links!) But having the PA cert doesn't mean you actually know how to use QBO like a Pro. Lots of folks can pass that test and are bad bookkeepers. But you do have to have this "box" checked for the jobs at QBL.

***Posting before finishing the video, I know it's a bad idea*** I understand I may get dragged for my opinion, but this is basically my honest review of the course and the exam- Yes. I failed my first attempt. Yes. I'm terrified of failing the second. Yes. I'm a little bitter about it. Sue me. And yes, this is stupid long. Sorry. Also sorry if this is a little repetitive. I lost my tack of thought a couple of times.... I recently attempted the exam and found it much more difficult than I thought it should be. This is supposed to be a beginner friendly thing...right? No experience needed? Or am I just clueless? I don't have any formal training with BK, if that helps with my review here. Have you attempted the course??? Have you attempted the exam??? Any pointers in passing this exam within the 2 attempts allowed? Other training material??? If failed twice, there is a SIX MONTH WAIT to take it again! Which I also think is ridiculous (QBO has 3 attempts and a 3 month waiting period), but whatever. Love how they call it a "cool down period". I think that's corporate speak for "give up period". I guess since this is so new, there is no one else really talking about this, so the additional training materials are lacking to say the least. ***The Course:*** The course on the Academy is....well it's broken. Coursera is the way to go with the actual course, unfortunately, but you have to go to the academy to do the exam. I started taking the course last week-dedicating 12 hours a day it seems; 2am was the earliest I went to bed in a week. I'm still not sure how long it actually took to complete. I have reached out to the support repeatedly with screenshots of missing or broken links in the videos- or missing video content completely. There is one point that has a 30 sec timer video screen that literally says "insert video here" and there are tons of what should be clickable links-including one that is supposed to link to Coursera that either go to a 404, 403, or just don't click- and they just say "placeholder here". Several places that should have video or quiz content have Dev notes instead with nothing to do but move on to the next item in the list. One section even leaves you with "you try now", seems to skip a page, then comes back to Bianca applauding you and telling you what a great job you did. Even the link in the course content that is supposed to take you to the exam directly goes to a "Page Not Found"... how....how did that even happen? You have to access the exam from the home page, click on Programs, then click Bookkeeper, THEN click on Take the Exam. What? I took longer than I am willing to admit to even find the exam to begin with. And now I wish I didn't find it at all. Seriously, I'm having nightmares about this now. It's crazy that this was published from such an esteemed company, especially after seeing the QBO training. There is no way I could have guessed Intuit posted this content if I didn't already know. It's a real drawback to the learning/retaining info part of the course. Tons of issues make it almost worthless. I don't know if they will get that fixed any time soon or not. I really don't think they ever actually looked at the course before publishing it to the academy. Just slapped it together and said "done, do it". I got 50% completed in Academy before I found it mostly unusable and had to switch to Coursera. Half of the practice quizzes in the course don't work, so there's no telling if you got the concept or not. It's.... bad. Some practice quizzes autofill the answers for you when you click on it, so there isn't any real practical application- or at the very least, it's very very limited hands-on. Some practice questions are coded with the wrong answers, so even if you get it right, it tells you that you are wrong and tells you the "correct" answer-which is what was just entered. It can get super confusing and frustrating. It's just bad. I don't know how else to put it. I gave up on the Academy training and went to Coursera, even though it's supposed to be the exact same process- it both is and is not (you still get to hang out with Bianca, but the practice stuff seems to work so far). So there's your heads-up. $50/mo after the 7 day window on there. ***The Exam:*** There is no test prep or practice exam which really sucks. This would be beneficial to make sure you understand what to expect or see if there is a section you really need to review. The "Practice" quizzes in the course were not thorough enough- I said what I said. Coursera has a Case Study that is useful and really hands on. Coursera also prompts you to take the exam at the end of the first module "Bookkeeping Basics"; so I don't know if that is the problem or not, since I followed Coursera in the end. I also had a feeling that the questions asked in the exam were not covered either enough-or at all- in the first course. Lots of terms I didn't recognize or was glossed over in the Basics-but had in depth questions about the term in the exam. The exam itself is insane. I have never seen anything like it. Have to download extensions to monitor your keyboard strokes, tab switching, webcam etc. Webcam has to be turned on, takes your picture then video monitors you the rest of the time, and there is no open book, no notebooks, no calculator- And I DID have a percentage calculation question. This whole "no open book or outside help" thing makes it seem like you aren't going to be able to ask questions in the future. There is no help, tough luck. On your own, sorry. Even the Tax exam on the academy is open book and 2 hours long. So you can ask questions about taxes in the future, but not anything about bookkeeping..... way to set people up to fail. 15 mins to get setup to take the exam. 40 word problem/scenario questions that are so twisted and full of random info, digging through that takes a min and a half to figure out what they are asking for anyway! 40 questions at almost 2 mins to answer is 80 mins-not 50, so good luck beating the clock, reviewing your answers, passing and understanding it at the same time- and god help you if you are a slow reader. It seemed to me to be mostly trick questions with hardly any direct answer- almost all of the questions (to me) had several "could be right" answers. And all multiple choice with the ability to choose multiple answers. The only good thing about this, on the questions with actual multiple answers that had to be chosen, if you only got one right answer, you receive partial credit for that one. Think about the QBOA training knowledge checks that had you choosing multiple options and all but 2 or 3 were wrong, but the ones right didn't even remotely sound right, or were so long and convoluted it didn't even sound like a language you spoke (at least, again, to me). Why???? What is going on?? If you don't really want to help train new Bk's, just say that. At the end of the exam, you have a few minutes to review your questions, but all of the answers are coded as multiple choice and the overview just says "Multiple Choice" or "drag and drop". It tells you what type of answer it was-not what answer you chose. It doesn't show you at a glance, what answers you chose. Some questions have directions such as "Choose the 2 best answers", but others don't and have several answers that could be correct. There is no true review of the answers unless you go back through all 40 questions one at a time again- where you could possibly run out of time and have it answer for you or leave the answers blank. So...who knows what you got right or wrong. No grade provided either. Just a sweet little message available 30 seconds after taking the test saying "Sorry, better luck next time". Just... wow....yeah, I'm bitter about it. I know. ***So what now?*** I feel like I wasted my first attempt at the exam with no clear understanding of what to expect. Even the ProAdvisor cert wasn't this difficult. Don't get me wrong, it was hard, but open book really helped for sure and the course material was too in depth at points. I passed it on the first attempt. And they have a 3 attempt option with feedback on what to review in the test prep section. Why make this so much more difficult???? You may as well take the CPA exam with no training and have better luck than you would with this. (Again, I'm bitter, but happy for the ones able to pass it on the first go though-no shade to you, Congrats!) The support team also has no clear feedback; feels like they just brush you off, which is a real bummer as well. I finally broke down and reached out to them on FB Messenger, and actually received a real response, but not sure if the issues will ever be resolved. All of this really takes away from the whole process that I feel should be fun and exciting. And this really kills the confidence I had in Intuit as a company. Now I am filled with a ton of dread knowing I only have one attempt left and no confidence that I know the information anymore. Real killer with the confidence there. I know people will have different outcomes: some get it, some don't. But for those that don't or those that need a little extra help, there isn't any, at least not on their website (it's pretty bare there anyway). It's actually heartbreaking. I guess if you have been working in this for years, you would have a better outcome. What about the newbies? Asking for a friend. Even though my experience thus far has been less than ideal to say the least, I am sure some people will find the content useful and easy to understand. Don't let my negativity push you away from it. I highly recommend Coursera though. And go through it multiple times until you understand it completely, no matter what the question is or could be. I truly hope they fix at least some of this, take in to consideration students with no background and work with them to build their confidence in the company and themselves. Good luck.

Hey there. So, first, THANK YOU for your thorough reply. I will pass along your feedback to the folks who manage Intuit Academy. You are commenting less than 2 weeks from their move from Coursera to the new platform, so hopefully these technical things you mention will improve rapidly. I have not taken the test and likely never will. I had 2 accounting classes in college and 2 accounting classes in grad school, so I think I had the basics of the "debits and credits". In my mind, this Intuit Academy bookkeeping course would be comparable to the Intro To Accounting courses offered at colleges. And I CONSTANTLY beat the drum that accounting is really, really hard. A lot of folks come in and think "oh, I just want to be a bookkeeper. That sounds easy enough." Not true! It is really hard because double-entry accounting is really, really hard. One resource I can suggest for you to get a stronger grasp of the basics is the Schaum's Bookkeeping And Accounting 4th edition. It is like a text book. That you write in. Big old book. I think that it costs about $40. I have purchased it and worked through a good portion of it when I was wanting to reinforce the accounting education I already had (beacuse I took my accounting classes over a decade ago). If you listen to the interview I did with the current QB Live employees, the manager, Russ Seney said something that really stood out. He said that people who do the best in the roles are the ones that really understand the accounting that underlies each click inside of QBO. When you understand how the debits and credits work for every single transaction, you can figure out the software clicks. The fundamental concepts that this course is trying to teach and the test is trying to prove is that you know the A = L + E. Now, if there are technical problems with the platform and test, that is one thing. We'll assume that they get that figured out as soon as possible. But that won't change the fact that the material is going to be tough because it is suppose to be tough. Think of all the students in college in business schools who still get their degree but got clobbered in the required accounting class. It's tough! But don't give up! Ditch the Intuit Academy training platform for now if it is too buggy. Focus on making sure you really, really, really know the fundamentals. Are you ready to get an A in a college Accounting 101 class? When you are, THEN you can go for your second shot at the exam because you'll even be able to untangle any of those technical issues with the exam that you mentioned because you will know your stuff. I hope this helps!!!! I'm here for you!

@@BookkeepingSideHustle Thanks for replying! I will definitely take the textbook into consideration. The whole experience has been... rough. Obviously. I stand by my review on it though. It is not something for Newbies really. Kind of glosses over tough topics and spends too much time on the easier stuff. It's really frustrating. Do you happen to have an recommendations for something along the lines of a workbook to go a little bit more into hands-on? A hardcopy that maybe could help with practicing the basics in? I do better combining all the learning modes (reading, hearing, seeing, doing) and really missing the "Doing" part to make this make sense. After looking at the course reviews in Coursera, apparently even the Case Study project has an error in it somewhere. I cannot figure it out, so again, it's just confusing and frustrating. Really appreciate the help and encouragement. I know there are more than just me determined to figure this out and be successful with it. We just need the right tools. **ETA** Just re-read your response and saw that the textbook is basically a workbook. Guess I am asking for maybe more recommendations like that? Sorry.

I’m glad someone said something. I found this video because I was confused if the Coursera certificate was different than the Intuit Academy program. I found out through another KZread that is the same. I’m doing the Academy program for free (started 2 days ago), and I noticed is not as challenging like the Coursera. The assessments kinda tell you what to do. Also, in the technical side, you can’t fast forward nor rewind a video. For example, if there was a term used or a QBO example presented and you missed/misunderstood around 2min 10sec end of the video, you have to restart the whole video just to get to that specific part. It’s really annoying. I really thought I was going crazy, but this comment really helped that I wasn’t 😂 (at least for this, who knows about other things 🧐). I guess we get what we paid for 🤪. But yeah, it feels very incomplete. The links don’t work, some assessment aren’t functioning, it feels like it skips some parts, etc. I wonder if they do in Coursera 🤔. To be honest, it doesn’t really deserve the $149 value that they esteem to show. In addition, if you get to pass the exam and want to apply for their bookkeeping WFH job (as announced), be aware that you also have to have,at least, 3+years of experience aside from your badge of completion. Even thought they do not promise a job after completing, this is shown as the first requirement for the job application. If you are a beginner, be aware that are no test that question your learning process and that this program will extend the 40hrs since you have to replay the videos from the beginning if you missed/misunderstood a small detail. If you have some type of accounting/bookkeeping background, this is a great way to brush-up and it might take you the 40hrs time reference. P.S. please don’t come at me because of my email name. It was created in high school with aol, way before gmail bought it😂. I use this account for KZread research 😂💀
