    I had Rhogam shot in 1971 when I started learning I am Rh negative, then carried a card to say that I must have another Rhogam from blood loss or after having another child . I have learned from then to now which has now been 42 years but have learned RH neg are very unique which I’ve known my whole life before I was aware of blood type ,we Rh negs have lots in common.

This is called protocol so that everybody can get paid in spite of what they're doing to the child in the mother when it's not needed

    So clear and simple. Thank you. One question though , rhogum is "anti D antibodies" right ? Then what are rhesus antibodies that are produced during a sensitization in a rh - vet mother who was not given prophylaxis . By giving rhogum all what we do is have antibodies in store to cover the antigen on RBCs, before the APCs present them as foreign to the immune system right ? Can u please explain whether anti D Abs and rhesus antibodies is the same or not

  • @marissarose1667

    @marissarose1667

    Жыл бұрын

    I don't completely understand but it seems like the ant D abs and the Reyes antibodies do opposite things. The Rhogam anti-dibodies would protect the baby while the others would attack, because you've built an immunity to that blood type after a blood transfusion or whatever. One is an immunity for you one is an immunity for the child. I might be completely wrong but that's my understanding, I'm probably about to have to get the Rhogam shot myself

    thanks! That was a great explanation to a confusing topic I have been having trouble understanding. One question, is the point of giving th Rhogam to the mother within 72 hrs after birth just so she doesn't make antibodies that may affect a future pregnancy? It doesn't have any benefit at that exact moment, right?

    real talk If the father is negative there is no need for the shot at all (unless you think the father was someone else). If the mother has amniocentesis and knows the baby has negative blood, again, no need for any harmful injections. There is only a risk of sensitization if the baby's blood somehow mixes with the mothers, like during birth. I had C-sections and so did my mother and her mother. For some reason we just don't go into labor even when induced. So I'm not sure there would be any chance for contamination. For me, they gave me that damn shot after every pregnancy ended no matter how it ended, birth, miscarriage, abortion, any pregnancy that ended...the shot was given. I had a lot of those stupid shots. I was very fertile. Seems like some doctors try to force it on every negative woman whether she needs it or not. But no, it's my understanding that a single shot won't give immunity for life. Or at least, that's what they want us to believe.

    Med School Made Easy I’m confused on sensitization. RHOGAM helps prevent sensitization, so I’m understanding. So, if a patient has been sensitized, the RHOGAM won’t help? If you already make your own antibodies to RH+, you can’t “unlearn?” Asking from the point of view of an RH- woman who’s experienced several chemical pregnancies and one ectopic which went self-corrected (ended on its own.) Patient received Rhogham after that ectopic / miscarriage but might it be too late and She makes her own antibodies to Rh+. (Her husband is rh+) She has no children.

  • @miraikaisar386

    @@smutches The Rhogam creates a sort of fake antibodies to cover the fetal Rh receptors so that those of the mother cannot bind with them even if they do exist. The reason they give them at 28wk is because it is common for maternal and fetal blood to start mixing minimally at that time period but enough to cause the mother to form antibodies that can attack the fetus. As previously mentioned, rhogam doesn't last more than 12 weeks and during delivery maternal and fetal blood mixes again and if the mother has antibodies against the fetal blood then the fetus will experience blood hemolysis (the breaking down of red blood cells) which could be (and usually is) fatal

  • @TaylorWilmes

    @TaylorWilmes

    A reason that you would've been told your daughter was Rh pos is that her reverse type was from the mother's (yours) since babies don't have antibodies. Since it was your first child, you didn't need rhogam because anti-D doesn't effect the baby/mother until subsequent pregnancies. Your daughter was typed B- and since her husband’s blood was O+, giving RhoGam was necessary. They don’t give RhoGam to Rh positive mothers.
