I have been paddling 50 years including several years of racing. This is the best canoeing primmer I have seen yet. I am so glad you talked about strainers. Very dangerous and one of the few things on the water that does scare me.

I don´t get those bent bladed paddles, they look like they would make paddling harder rather than easier.

Frogbear02, once you use bent shaft paddles, you'll never go back to straight blade unless in certain moving water situations. Even then, the bent shaft paddle is excellent. It offers more power because the flat part of the blade is "pushing" through the water longer then a straight blade. Once past the hip, the straight blade begins to "lift" water, whereas the bent shaft is still pushing through the stroke. Give a bent shaft a try. You'll be surprised and very comfortable with it.

pswigs I suppose what you say makes sense, but personally I am a traditionalist, so I pretty much stick with hand carved, strait bladed wooden paddles XD.

I don’t think those PFDs are still approved . I know there not here in Canada 🇨🇦 I haven’t seen them in years. It’s probably time for some new ones.
