The domain of a logarithm is essentially a combination of the domain of a radical function (even index only), where the radicand cannot be *negative* , and the domain of a rational function, where the denominator cannot be *0* . The domain of a logarithm says the argument cannot be *negative* or *0* .

In regards to the final example: would it be proper to state the domain is all x such that x is not a member of the interval -1 to 0, inclusive?

At roughly 41:00 in. That right there. If that could have been explained that way in all classrooms I don’t think students would have such bad problems with Logarithms. 18 years ago in my last math class with Logarithms, we were told “It’s the inverse of an exponent, figure it out” and two thirds of the class failed that section. I wish I had KZread back when haha.
