    8:50 --11:30 gauge width 4 ft 8.5 inches; tramways based on wagons width; "wagon wheels would break in the ruts...ruts came from the Roman chariot width...distance between two horse asses are 4' 8.5"

    i wish the camera person was better. If the teacher is showing something on the board the camera person should be looking at the board not the teacher.. =/

    he didn't mention that when farming ethanol we need diesel for the equipment/machines and the fertilizers and such are made from petroleum, further increasing its carbon footprint.

    That fact about solar panels using more energy than generate is shocking. However it's not true since around 2010. (the video is from 2008)

    @harryps3 whats the difference. chalk uses chalk that runs out and white boards use marker that dry out. They're both obsolete. It probably just depends on the personal preferences of the professors.

    He divides by 0.74 in order to get a larger number (requires more energy due to some energy being lost as heat).

    The Machinery's hand book, the Mechanical Engineers Hand book, Perry's etc they all have the same stuff from the same sources. If you look closely you'll notice that many of the studies are also very old.

    A very interesting lecture. But I can't understand why the USA still uses Imperial units. In Australia, we converted to metric units in the 1970s.
