After watching your Learn Three Languages video, I believe this channel has a lot of untapped potential, although this video has me asking questions. This channel is meant to be educational with the purpose of learning the cross section of all three languages correct? The idea of a challenge is enticing, but what are the guidelines? What's the end goal, how do the participants track their progress and what can we expect if we follow the challenge? I'm not sure how big your team is, but you present to us a demand for the possibility of learning three languages simultaneously, yet your supply of content does not meet the demand you've created. If you were to create a team dedicated to making more content, capitalizing on this demand and perhaps even making courses that yield results, I'm sure you'd see great return on all that effort. On the other hand, maybe such a task is too heavy for you to bear at the moment, in that case maybe start an open-source style community where everybody can contribute and share their progress, like a Discord or a subReddit and promote the hell out of it. I'm very much eager for either scenario, all of which to suggest you should have more structure in your videos and overall goal. I'm sorry about your laptop, but this update video felt thrown together last minute: the language and structure of your message wasn't very concise, amateur to say the least. I only want what's best for this project of yours, please continue giving it your all.

Hello and thank you for your feedback! This is very helpful and I do agree that I need to produce more learning materials at a faster rate to keep up with the demand. The more polished videos end up taking a lot of time though, even with a team. In the short term, I might do some simple live streams where I just go through the material (the 808 shared characters and 658 shared words) more informally, translating from references on the spot. At least, in this way, I can get useful information out there for people to use. What do you think? As for the challenge, I wasn't really planning for it to be super structured because I see it more as a challenge against oneself. I'm open to it becoming more of a structured thing with rules and a subreddit though!

just found your channel in 2024 and gotta say the topic is super cool! I have studied both Mandarin and Japanese as a Korean speaker and have always thought the shared vocabulary was very cool. Often times if I come across a word that sounds Sinitic in origin in Korean (you kind of get a "feel" for it, kind of like identifying Latin vs non Latin English words) I will look up the Hanja to see if it means anything in Mandarin or in Japanese. always pretty interesting if the meaning has diverged! I haven't watched all your other videos yet but I have noticed in English-Chinese resources like Pleco or Yellowbridge, they include corresponding pronunciation in Japanese, Korean, as well as Cantonese and Vietnamese -- makes me wonder if it could be easier to learn these other two languages too using 808CJK

Previously as a student who is also of Chinese descent, we’ve long ago heard of the similarities and how we can easily learn Japanese and Korean through accessing and taking root in the Chinese characters that we all share due to shared history. We were told some people in China (I’m not from Mainland) have developed a way to easily learn all 3 but it’s been kept a secret by those few. 😅 Hope college isn’t killing u tho! Much love!

I'm so incredibly excited! Let's be friends! Ah, is it weird to say this as an adult? Imagine we're 8 on a playground and I come up to you and say let's be friends! Lol I want to learn Korean, Japanese and Cantonese and have only really recently started with Korean. I also want to learn some Italian and French, though I don't aim to have a super high proficiency in those two, but something around A2 is probably what I'm aiming for. I recently started with French. I also want to learn biblical Greek and biblical Hebrew. I keep starting and then dropping it so it's like I never started. I dabbled in Latin because of school and really enjoyed it.

i really love reading classical chinese too :) i'm definitely not near fluent level yet, but i think it's a super great way to magnify the meanings of each 漢字, which really helps me with retaining them. plus, im a total sucker for chinese poetry and philosophy, i think it's really beautiful. and it's really nice to put a face to the voice that's been teaching me 한자 lol

@@808CJK I'm a Romanian learning in a Chinese university in Beijing and I had Classical Chinese courses which I barely passed and now I still suck at it.I plan to review learning Classical Chinese by myself and it would be awesome if you would also make videos on this topic such as explaining Classical Chinese grammar, vocabulary, methods of learning etc.

@@808CJK As a Cantonese ABC who learned a little bit of functional Japanese and Korean, i find the Cantonese pronunciations also very helpful. Mandarin is also, but a little less helpful. I'm interested in knowing more about Chinese dialects!!

Hey Singhao, Really appreciate your method! Something that I (and many) can really use to understand Chinese language history better and to at the same time already start learning Korean and Japanese. By the way, I have three questions; Firstly, would you be able to make some videos as well explaining the history (and a bit about the make up) of both Japanese and Korean writing, so as to make it easier to understand? I am especially curious about Japanese, how the writing started to differ more significantly with more curvatures in the writing. Secondly, will you be adding Vietnamese and Cantonese to the videos or will you do that later? Finally, I wanted to ask you, do you come from or live in Singapore XD? Can somebody provide me with a list of the 808 characters that's copy/pasteable? I'd like to look up the meanings, and pronunciations of these characters independently, but can't, because I obviously can't type the characters just by seeing them.

It's why I specifically asked for a searchable one, as I've spent several hours going through that one, and trying to find out what character each character is through a mixture of trial-&-error, educatrd guesswork, and trying to find a half decent Hangeul to Sino-Xenic character converter, with very limited success. Third, it's good to know you've already made the spreadsheet in question, and that it will eventually be freely available. I am VERY intrested in all 3,but due to lack of resources, I can't. My main source of these are only anime, k series and some Chinese dramas.:( I hope I am getting atleast a basic level in all 3

You can definitely do it if you keep working at it! Maybe you can start with learning the characters? James Heisig's Remembering the Kanji series is really good for this

@sardash it is not an introduction, he doesn't introduce anything. it is a statement, that he is going to attempt the "challenge". but the "challenge" doesn't even make sense since you (the viewer) are on this channel precisely to learn CJK already. this channel exists for this purpose. so if you already can (with enough effort) in a relatively short amount of time learn it, why would you even subscribe to the channel that does not have the content necessary to learn it yet, nor does it have a fast production cycle. the video should be called: "that's me, hi". and the challenge should not be even mentioned since he is just basically saying: "I don't know what I teach".
