If you don't spend most of your time "at peace" beating up your own vassals, your empire will never really amount to much. The only time you can sit back and relax is when you play an immortal high diplo/intrigue character, any other time should be spent putting dynasty members with few if any claims to anything relevant in every position possible for the extra dynastic opinion while revoking "excess" titles at any opportunity, more vassals is infinitely better than strong vassals.

I recall playing as the Byzantine Empire once, with the duke of Serbia (from the Dulkjanin dynasty) being one of my vassals. Over time he expanded inside my realm until he had two duchy titles, at which point he made himself a king (still my vassal) without my permission. This annoyed the hell out of me because he stopped being an imperial vassal and became a feudal vassal, meaning I didn't inherit his top title when he died, he passed it to his heirs. Over time they expanded so much inside my realm that the vassal king of Serbia was more powerful than me. They owned basically all of Greece, 3 duchies in Anatolia, some in the holy land, some in Bulgaria. It got to a point where he had more vassals than I did! Eventually I got so frustrated that I paused the game and, with the game paused, systematically imprisoned every single member of the Dulkjanin family. The king, his children, his siblings, their wives/husbands, their children... everybody. I executed every single one of them, except for the king of Serbia himself whom I castrated and released from prison. If I remember correctly it was around 160 people in all. Naturally, every single vassal of mine had -100 opinion of me afterwards.

@@Elydir just make sure your family doesn't have claims or if they do, make sure they don't get powerful enough to press them. The goal is to have dynasty members for the opinion boost but far enough away in your family to not have claims or any direct gains from assassinating your children.

Controlling vassals is like being a baby sitter - there's endless squabbling and whining, loads of shenanigans which you can't keep track of and you're just putting up with their crap for the money. You're not doing a good job, but it's not like they would appreciate you doing a good job anyway.

I hope there are some sorts of Bootlicker Vassals that just always try to appease you. I often had the feeling that all the vassals seem to think they are the shit and always had the same ambitions. Also the Vassal management was boiling down to pressing one of three buttons to make green number go up. they really need to step up the game with promises and much more feedback for decisions. Like giving vassals command of an army and shit that boosts there moral. Something like trust and flat out vassals that lack ambitions and are just happy with where they are and some vassals that actively try to gain your favor by giving you gold not the other way around.

@@DerFreiegedanke vassals that are happy with what they have exist and are represented with the trait content. Now that traits actually matter you will Probably see that. And bootlickers also exist, most visibly on the council

@@DerFreiegedanke Everything you described is already in CK2. Powerful vassals that are you friends on the council will persuade others to always agree with you. Content vassals are also just that. Content.

When I played Léon in CK2 and created the Empire of Hispania things got a little boring so I lowered the crown authority from Absolute until I got to Low, and then just watched my vassals kill each other until the game ended. It was fun

Its a good feeling when you notice a major neighbor at war and you're like hey should I take advantage and realize they are at war with one of your vassals who are already handling it.

I remember that one vasal family i had in CK2. They were ALWAYS but ALWAYS trying to kill me, and were generarly my enemies..but i liked them so much i left them alive since they were my only role play enemies

I had a big kingdom with two other duchies (besides the two I was able to own myself). I didn't notice that the two had married their children together. That...was a nasty civil war.

@@kingjamestres that. And also keeping far away land powerful vassal should be more difficult. For example: an emperor residing in constantinople should have harder time maintaining order toward powerful vassal in kazakhstan because a couriers would need months to deliver a mail or for the vassal to deliver tribute. In real world scenario the couriers would be more likely to encounter bandits a lomg the way. But hey, we can't have everything we wished for.

MajorGore Emperor government type isn’t available on release. Nor are Merchant Republic and Nomad (but I’m glad these are gone so they can do something with them that’s less janky than ck2). I never play near Byzantium though, so I don’t particularly care for the time being

IndigoRage Byzantium is my main country in CK2. I love playing with all the eastern christian characters, greek, georgian, armenian and alan is all good fun.

"More often than not there is a simple solution to please your vassals... except when you run out of council seats." I love the decision between having a functional council and not having to worry about furious powerful vassals lol.

Time to try a new series for me from Paradox, CK3 here I come!

I like that you can have different rules per vassal now. Would definitely make the game more interesting. Will the type of agreement with one vassal cause opinion reward/penalty with other vassals? If one has a much more favorable laws enacted by the liege compared to the rest that might cause jealousy or even rebellions.

Starting as a count and building your way up through marriages, alliances, conquests and scheming is the best.

Sad that OPB isn’t doing this video but I guess supporting different people who play their games by sponsoring them and giving them more exposure is cool.

Can you just hear the perfect music casually playing in the background like it's nothing?

I dont know if it has been discussed but will Exclaves settings part of the base game to lessen border gore?

@@gamergrill4933 Their fan version of the CK2-EU4 converter uses the official converter's functionality as a base and is way better than the vanilla one, so I wouldn't be so sure.

I can't find information about Crusader Kings III Royal Edition ,what does it give more than the regular edition ?

Is there anything detailing what sets your vassal cap? Is it tied to diplo score or is it fixed? 40 seems a very suspicious number.

I'd guess it's a combination of factors like in CK2. Probably rank, so which highest title and how many, then diplomacy skill, probably skill of chancellor, and realm size. Something like that.

Does anyone know how to give priest land? I am playing as Georgia and I wish to have a county under a bishop. I remember I’m ck2 you would just Grant the bishop a country and he would control it.

Vassal contract sounds great.

This game definitely makes me feel like pulling out my Tywin Lannister. I have to look out for the dynasty no matter how disappointing my children are.

Can you change the image for levies? feels kinda weird having 2200 guys with pitchforks and 8 armoured knights. When its actually 2200 levies infantry archers and light cavalry with pikes, shield, light to medium armour and maybe some 2 hander swords or axes and such.

what about allowing vassal to raid other county if their culture allow it in Law decisions? and we could control their raiding behavior from free to disallow similar to feudal/tribal tax

Do ck3 have vassal states?

What I wanna know, is how exactly vassals behave if their liege starts a war. I had a multiplayer game where I was my buddie's vassal and he declared a holy war. Instantly the warscore shield appeared but it had a different color than normal. I also didn't get the quick raise army button and when I raised my forces manually and tried to siege down one of my vassal's enemies' castles, my troops just stood there doing nothing. He also didn't have the option to call me into the war (the option wasn't greyed out it simply wasn't there to begin with). I had to ask my liege to join in as an active participant, but then that didn't work either because apparently my liege was not defending my faith in his holy war, even though we were of course both coptic christians and he was fighting muslims... The encyclopedia doesn't mention vassal behavior during wartime at all...

Yeah that's not really possible though. No game not meticulously programmed for it can handle that many players. It would cost tons of resources to make stable, for a tiny amount of players that would use it.

@@blindedinchains829 the room in the background looks pretty much the same, I see a real difference just in clothing. The emperor's room was supposed to inspire authority. It would also be nice if there was a screen were you could see your character on the throne to really be proud of your accomplishments.

Cant you also choose not to vassalize a domain that you take over? Like take away their title or grant the land you took to your heir?

I really hope for some "cross breading" inside paradox. Stellaris could use a vassal rehaul, I would prefer something simpler like they did for federations, but this CK3 stuff is gold too.

I hope they have modified the engine so that it works better this time. Ck2 republics are kinda unique in early game but once you get big enough it just becomes feudal with more money. Would br nice to see gameplay for them that feels properly different. Same with nomads on that front btw

They're trying to build hype, and keep people interested is my thought.

This is great information, but sadly still haven't tackled my biggest concern yet :( when my vassal inherit some external land higher than their title, they would go independent and I won't get any strong claims to get back my lost land. I wonder if CK3 would solve this problem .

First, get betrayed by your friends and sent to the Cheateu Dif prison. Second, meet a priest trying to tunnel his way out of prison who happens to know the location of the legendary treasure of Count Sparda. Third, escape prison, find the gold and become the Count o Monte Cristo.
