This intro is badass, but half-assed The game tries so hard to have a deep lore but doesn't even bother to properly introduce the new characters when they seem to have an important role, or what happened since 2016 Who is that Novik ghost guy and why does the doomguy bows to him ? What is the Khan Maykr ? Who is that betrayer and why am i supposed to know him ? where the fuck did i find that "doom fortress" ? Doom 2016 did it perfectly right : quickly introducing the characters and the situation in a way that you don't have to read a shitload of lore to undertand "who is that guy and why am i here ?", and most important : KEEPING IT SIMPLE

@@Zulnivis but doom eternal does keep it simple. It gives you lore pages that you can read on your own time. The problem here is that doom eternal is not the same as doom 2016. It's much more fast paced. That's why the cutscenes are so short so the player doesn't get distracted by story and just keeps slaying and killing demons. Doom eternal is much more focused on the gameplay rather than the story like doom 2016 was. And there's nothing wrong with that.

In all honesty they used the mark of the beast the wrong way. Biblically speaking the mark of the beast is something to denote Satan's followers/slaves(?) During the times leading up to the end. An enemy of hell would not have that mark.

I'm not lying when I say this is the best, and most adrenaline pumping intro cut scene I've ever seen. The Doom Slayer gearing up as we hear Vega telling him he doesn't have much time left, and hearing the survivors begging for help as Mick Gordon masterfully builds up the music. And then the climax as the last Survivor, clearly in absolute desperation, asking anyone for help as the Doom Slayer pumps his shotgun, followed by the music dropping into the riff we all know and love with the title card. I cannot fully express how much of a masterpiece this intro is, to me at least.

My father was a big fan and a great Doom player, he was on it since the first one in 1993. One month before the release of Eternal, he died from a massive heart attack. I always played with him since I was a little kid, being too scared of monsters like the Cyberdemon and he taking over and murdering that fucking beast. I'm not a believer of any religion, everyone says that he's in heaven with my grandma and my grampa but I like to think, that he's in Hell kicking ass with the Doomslayer.

This cutscene is a perfect example of “show, don’t tell”

I’ve gotta say this is the best most fun solo campaign first person shooters I’ve ever played by far. The fact that so many first person shooters rely on their multiplayer to occupy the consumers time but doom has a campaign that is so insanely fun that you want to just keep playing over and over on harder difficulties is crazy. And after doom 2016 I was like idk how they’re going to top that then this opening scene came up and I was like my god. This just completely annihilates every other shooter to me because the devs knew that the fun part of shooting games is the shooting and killing...harder difficulties you have to run faster kill quicker and use combos better to get more ammo armor and health...every other game...hide behind something and use the lamest weapons like a plasma pistol to win. This game is on a different level and more shooters need to take note.

I have never had as much excitement when I finally got to the demo level BFG 10000. I don't think they added the soundtrack of bfg 10000 so when you finally get out start fighting to the bridge that fucken soundtrack ripped me harder then the previous game and games like dmc/metal gear rising. I also was encouraged to do all the gore nest challenges because I was so amped by the meathook ost.

I started with Pong in 1975. I've been playing a bit of everything since then, and this... THIS is how to do the intro for an action game. I literally get chills. It tells the player "Get ready. You're about to run headlong into an apocalyptic bloodbath the likes of which you've never seen." And then damn if it doesn't deliver.

‘Ironic’ how its the minimalism that makes such a fantastically over-the-top game is so memorable.

I really love the line “All the wickedness mankind can produce” which gets you thinking about all the history and tragedies humanity has caused and makes you realize that yeah demons are terrible and have done awful things but we have also done stuff equally as bad, both in universe lore with Olivia Pierce and Samual Hayden causing this to happen either for personal gain or corporate interest, but also with real life history, it’s a small thing but adds a lot of nuance to these games for me

Technically we had doom 3. What it would be like playing as a regular marine inside a tight and cramped Mars UAC complex. I'd suspect it would be very horror like.

Damn, no words can explain how iconic this intro will be for me forever. As one of those guys that was hyped from the minute the first teaser got released, being able to play for the first time after the long wait and the delay was amazing. When this intro played I felt ready to slay

Same it took me a few levels to adjust to the combat faster paced imo but after that it was so so fun

This intro is just perfection. Starts with a brief, calm introduction, setting the scene so you know the absolute scale of the threat then you have A woman becoming increasingly panicked throughout the sequence begging for help DOOM guy prepping for battle An amazing soundtrack kicking in for the first time a street prophet acting as your hype man - all at the same time then jumping right into the madness alone and ready. how else would you want to fight demons and feel awesome?

The fact that they are more than willing to send in the doom slayer as oppose to those giant machines to freaking hell shows how impressive he is

0:20 I'm glad this line survived over the years because in the 1996 Doom comic its really really over the top to the point of being silly but its finally swung around to "No, this is incredibly raw and ominous" and I appreciate that.

The way the logo appears it looks like the most heaviest metal that the universe can hold!

There is a part on the Bible where he only expulsed them from a person, and they said "You, son of God, do you come here early to torment us before its time, if you want to expulse us, let us go to those swines," Then he expulsed them and they ran as fast when they got in the pigs.

Note how any and all transmissions about casualties, being alone, and being unable to fight back end the exact second the doom slayer is seen, from there on it's entirely about the amount of demonic presence, and calling "is anyone left?". Nice

Ironically, this single intro is more cinematic and in line with modern action movies than most games have tried to pull off over the last 20 years and Doom Eternal accomplishes this without sacrificing any of its core gameplay.

This is definitely gonna become an iconic game into, game in general tbh in like 5 years

One of the most badass intros I’ve seen in a while. Really gets you pumped to rip a bunch of demons apart.

Real man dont talk, they act. But do real man dont talk at all? Is Doom Guy even a real man anymore? No, he is Doom.

I love how much you can feel with this intro you feel how desperate everyone on earth is, what comes to mind is how easily a regular person can be killed even by the fodder demons you feel how helpless their situation sounds. 60% of earth overrun? billions of deaths? in moments like these all you can really do is pray for a savior you feel angry at the demons. they are killing YOUR people and you know they're having fun with it, its time to make them regret it you feel powerful, for as evil as the demons can be, they fear you, they are scared of you, and rightfully so hearing people scream for help just as you enter the portal makes you feel like some kind of super hero, like you're about to save them all its such a buildup, I love it

I love the Argenta voice actors. Novik has an unreleased speech for the first DLC, too. It's interesting because with Novik, Valen, the Sentinel Ghosts, and even the pre-corruption flashback priests, you notice the Argenta almost have an accent. Love it.
