Excellent video. Brought back memories of flying in Dad’s Ercoupe and watching cars below on the highway passing us. Not a speed demon, but lots of fun.

As a former single engine ground pilot and now grounded with ALS I look forward every one of your videos using my eyes to navigate the computer. In 1985 I came very close to buying an Ercoupe similar to yours that was on Doc Watson's glider port in Vacaville. The price was $7500. I wonder if that one was your future bird.

Mandatory adulting and crap weather have kept me out of the cockpit for almost a week. Thanks for he fix. 😅

Fun flight. I always love flying formation. Even loose. I like the location callouts. One of my favorite YT posters is the USAF C130 guys who also use the same callout for things. Like it ! Wish I’d known Andrew when I was at Beale and he was still there. Good guy. But then…would James be good pals with anyone that wasn’t ? No.

My Father flew in and out of Wendover with the USAF in B29's, KC97's, and EC121's. He always said he was glad he was never stationed there because, in the 50s and 60s before the interstate, it was very isolated. The video was beautiful, thanks for all the air to air shots, and the wild horses were incredible.

Always a pleasure to watch your in-flight videos after loading your route into ForeFlight and following along. 👍👍 Even though the flight was almost 16 months ago, it is timeless. Didn’t realize that you were adjacent to the Bonneville Salt Flats! A quick question about your Ercoupe’s interior color. Based upon the control yoke hub’s purple color, do you think that the original interior had a lavender tint to the panels and carpet?

I think all Ercoupe's left the factory with those purple yokes. I wish I knew how the interior was, I think it was possibly bear, maybe just wooden floorboards and that was it. No carpet or side lining. I think all that was after-market. What I would pay for pictures (and video!) of it on delivery day.

Cool flight James thanks for sharing. Do you have an 0-200 in the Ercoupe? I have an 0-200 in a 64 Citabria and on hot days long journeys the oil pressure tends to drop close to the yellow arc. I put high viscosity oil in it which helps. Mind you we don’t get many hot days in Ireland as you well know.

Hey Iano. I do have an O-200 in the Ercoupe. I haven't really seen any low oil pressure issues with mine, it stays pretty constant, just to the left of top dead center on my gauge (about 45 psi I think). I run straight 50 weight oil (Aeroshell W100).

And yes, my ambient temps are probably a bit higher than yours, on average! :)

Crossing the ridge (21minute mark), was your ForeFlight screaming about the terrain?

Hi James, in your Part 3 there is something, a comment, that I don’t fully understand. You said after refuelling that you had 100 HP in your Ercoupe. I thought it had a C85 engine. Did you changed it or overall it somehow? So possibly, you might have an ERCO 415-D that was modified to fit a 108 hp (81 kW) Lycoming O-235-C2C power plant?

Hi Richard. My Ercoupe did come from the factory with a C-85. In 1999, it was fitted with an O-200 that was pulled out of a 150 with other problems. This O-200 conversion (mainly due to the lack of mechanical fuel pump on the O-200, which requires putting in an electric fuel pump) is done with supplemental type certificate paperwork.

Does Andrew not have ADSB? Seems like it would be very helpful in finding each other out in the wilds.

Hey Ken. No, and no transponder either. And the radio is not very long range. It could have all those things, but I think Andrew wants to keep it 'grass roots, wind in the wires'. He has enough modern avionics in the 737 he flies for United!
