Interview with Steve Kaufmann in 7 languages -
A multilingual conversation with Steve Kaufmann is a dream come true 🎉🎉🎉
I never even thought I would have the honour to meet Steve Kaufmann in the first place! I am so glad I got to meet him and exchange about languages, it was also fun to do our video in seven languages! 😁
Being able to learn from him and seeing that we have a similar philosophy when it comes to learning and speaking foreign languages made me feel really happy 😊
00:00 - What we are doing today :)
00:19 - Steve's introduction and his opinion about learning at any age
02:54 - (German) What was the most difficult language and how did Steve deal with that?
06:27 - (French) What does Steve think about talent?
09:46 - (Russian) How was it to learn languages without Internet?
16:16 - (Spanish) What does he like the most about learning languages?
19:57 - (Italian) What does he think about speaking "itañolo"?
23:27 - (Swedish) How did he learn Swedish?
26:30 - How was it? :)
I hope you find it interesting, if you want you can activate subtitles.
We also did a video for @Thelinguist's channel btw! Be sure to check it out! 😄

Dear Laura, I got to know you through Elsa (Piece of French) I've been following her for a long time, and let me tell you I have learned a great deal of french now, but recently I watched a video with Elsa and you speaking in french and let me tell you, a new and fresh spark of hope lit up in me as far as learning french [the language I am now studying until december of 2023] possibilities that you inspire me a great deal, you make learning languages seem so simple and fun, I think I liked you right away because you have, or rather project so much positive energy and entheusiasm for language learning. I watched your video with OUR "Godfather" of all Polyglots [in my book] Steve Kaufmann, a man I've also been following for years. When I saw you with him in a collaborative video I immediately stopped the video and subscribed to your channel and I am commiting myself to follow you and your teachings in different languages[ I speak nine although my primary goal is to speak twelve even at 66 years of age that I am] with that sweet smile of yours and beautiful eyes , it's hard not to want to heed what you say and all the great tips you give to master any language. Thank you for your hard work and dedication. You are a breath of fresh air in the polyglot world to inspire others as you have inspired me also. Blessings.

A FUN video to watch. I could follow almost all of it up to the Swedish … I totally relate to Steve (who I’ve seen on numerous KZread videos) - as I’ve done most of my language learning after 65 … - and I totally relate to you both regarding the “phases” of language learning - with a truly “fun stage” being that initial exposure to a new language over 3-9 months or so, when you are listening, learning the structure - and finally the joy of being able to understand a good bit of what you are hearing (except for, as Steve says - that “other 40%” which consists of much less commonly used words which nevertheless are so VERY important to truly understanding). And it helps to see my favorite polyglots run into similar problems that I have mixing words when doing a “rapid switch” from one language to the next - but still understanding and being able to communicate! THANKS AGAIN to you both for your enthusiasm in all that you both do! - :)

I watched the interview on Steve's KZread channel, and it was great! It's definitely an inspiration for us folks who "only" know a couple of languages haha! I currently live in Japan, but I haven't got a ton of motivation to learn a lot of Japanese. It kinda scares me (and I have a unique living situation in which knowing Japanese isn't totally necessary for me to function here, so that kills the motivation too). But my New Year resolution is to start with an app to learn some basics, and then get a native speaker tutor to further learn! But I also want to maintain my Spanish, continue to take Russian lessons, and I teach English, so that's a lot of languages going through my mind!

@@CouchPolyglot I'm coming back to this video and this comment a year later haha. Unfortunately, I did not reach my goal of learning Japanese this year, because I ended up having to push a baby out of my body last summer (aka my husband and I had another baby), so that ended up diverting my time and energy elsewhere. But I'm proud to say that I can stumble along in Japanese when I'm out running errands, and I've maintain my Spanish and Russian really well!

In italian you can both say "capire" or "comprendere": these two verbs are synonymous, meaning "to understand".

Alguna vez intentaste estudiar musica? tocas algun instrumento? :)
It was beautiful to watch the pleasure and passion that you derive from speaking all these languages.

I am glad you like it!
I'm 39 in January. If I reach Steve's age and have half his linguistic talent, I'll be happy. Learning Spanish and Portuguese at the moment. Eventually I also want to learn Catalan, Turkish, Polish and (possibly) Hindi. Would love to be able to language switch this smoothly!

Subtitles Bug: If it happens to you (as to me) that the English subtitles seem to be available only for one language, just check the settings --> subtitles --> set English subtitles again.
