The NAME Boogaloo existed before the group came out, even SAM admits that. I even saw a clip of Jaes Brown doing what he called, the James Brown Boogaloo which didn't remotely resemble what the EBs are doing. These guys perfected their signature style of movement that is wildly imitated, and yes, even by MJ

I can admit that before I started dancing, I, too, thought Michael Jackson's moves were all his own. I then did research and found out that he actually learned a great deal of his moves, if not all of them, from other great dancers. Yes, he was a notable dancer before the EBs came about, however he did learn a lot from them. The backslide (what he later dubbed the "moonwalk") was actually taught to him by Jeffery Daniels of the band Shalamar. Know your history, kiddies. It is quite important.

Even though Popping Pete and Suga Pop don't ask for respect I freely give it. I really appreciate their passion & willingness to share it with the world. Looking back at Breakin' I didn't grasp what those OG's were truly capable of until about week ago Thanks to KZread.I mean these guys were magical to us kid's from the Midwest. We mimicked what we saw from Breakin' & to the untrained eye passerbys thought we were tight. Today I can learn the fundamentals from these two pro's & Pop N' Taco

I feel odd saying this but I'm glad that this new generation don't have a clue how to really do it oldschool. I don't want to learn from them cause they don't know nor respect the core moves of Popping. They equally lack soul & passion. I wanna learn directly from the originals. The fact that Popping Pete, Boogaloo Shrimp, Shabba Doo, Ana LolliPop Sanchez, & my favorite Pop N' Taco are still dancing, literally blew my mind! I must learn from the pro's the basics Ya'll I'll be Poppin' in my 80's

He is definitely Samoan. There are plenty of Samoan people in the US, particularly but not only the West Coast. NZ, and Auckland in particular is a traditional work hub for samoan people. NZ is also the island at the southern most extreme of the polynesian triangle which includes Easter Island, Tahiti, Tonga, Samoa and the Cooks. Even Dwayne Johnson, the Rock, stayed here for a while. He is a great guy, and a close friend of mine stayed with him in New York when he lived there.

It doesn't ds credit MJ to say he learned some of his moves from the Boogaloos and other street dancers. Remember MJ was a dude who grew up in the same era as these guys, that he loved dance, and always stayed current on what the latest dances were. Being a student of dance himself of course so e moves were purely his own(like his signature spin move)

@kopstar12 They did not invent popping. Sam invented EB style, popping was around before though. They say if you don't do EB style you ain't popping which is bullshit. Also they said the term pop locking didn't exist and that's not what it was called, but in L.A that's what this dance was called.

I know...that Sam originated this electric boogaloo. James brown was signing about another form another style. and the guys in Oakland and the fillmore district were not doing the Electric Boogaloo. It has to be Sam Solomon who gets the credit.

MJ actually pop locked in 1977 check it out which was three years before them, however he did train with them because they were the it thing at the time. He gave them jobs and many of them were in videos.

@enigmaboogie Not true, at every stage MJ changed his style and started some others. Some of these guys especially the one speaking or both of them are full of it. He claims one of them taught MJ the robot which is bs because MJ was doing it in 73 which was seven years before he met them. MJ worked and worked with their styles but they are taking wayyy to much credit, especially considering MJ incorporated a bunch of different styles, more than just pop locking.

@yaboit33 Dude, the whole Boogaloo dance was something that existed BEFORE the Electric Boogaloo's. None of these guys originated anything from the backslide/moonwalk to any of their moves. It annoys me how people claim that Michael Jackson's whole dance thing is from them which is BS. These guys are good and I love them but do not like when they or people take too many claims on MJ. MJ was a noted dancer before them.

Then you don't really know your history. Michael Jackson credited street dances for showing him a lot of his dance moves, the moonwalk being one. It wasn't even called the moonwalk, it was called the backslide and Michael was taught that by Casper Canidate and other moves by Jeffrey Daniels. Michael did what all great dancers do, learned from a lot of people and put his own style to it.
