To make interesting, FIDE can organise online chess tournament with top 100 rated players on one side and open to all on other side, just like call centre, top rated players can pick each game in queue and play... Like 3 games per open user as 5 mins game, 24x7 for one month... Those who win can move up get chance to play higher rated players... This way, you can find talent, who were not suppressed by financial/power influences... Also fans can connect with top players

Chess has this peculiar quality where it's like watching a mathematician do math. It might be interesting,, but what they do feels so difficult, and if the proof goes on and on (Fermat's Last Theorem, for example), it can be a slog. When you see a sport like tennis, you don't have to play to admire the physical prowess on display. They hit shots you can't and you can see it. In chess, often one tiny mistake can cause a total change in the game, and yet people don't play well enough to see this happening. You have to be quite good at chess and still you'll miss things because these are the top players in the world.

  • @tennisCharlzz

This is one reason Levy makes more money than top chess players. People will pay to watch a tennis or football match. Would they pay to watch chess? You absolutely need commentary or you couldn't follow the game at all. I do wonder if AI might get better at explaining chess moves, but right now, it doesn't seem like it's well suited to explaining chess even if the best chess engines are much more powerful compared to the best players.

When broadcasting chess games I think there should be no live evaluation bar and the commentators shouldn't use chess engines as well. I think it kinda takes away the magic of the game, also it disconnects the players from the audience (because they don't have the same information) and in the worst case makes them look stupid ("he didn't find the best move") although they are the best players in the world. It also basically predicts the future so it can spoiler the outcome of a game ("this would have been the only winning move and he didn't find it"). Would love to here other opinions on this.
